What on earth are you on about GW2 has animation lock Rift doesn't. While both games never made me switch, GW2 has to be the most simplest boring combat game I've played. I cant help it but every promotional video I watched of GW2 made me think it was designed by middle aged women. You know the ones, the ones where women repeat "we're making a game about you" x eleventy billion. Just make it good I would of settled for that.
Fairly certain you do not understand the term action lock if you claim GW2 has it yet Rift doesn't. Might suggest you look at a few videos and play both games.
Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!
Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!
Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!
Combat looks great. I'm really looking forward to trying out this new targeting system!
On a side note, I believe I've entered bizarro world. After years of people complaining about tab targeting in MMOs, the genre is evolving to a more active form of combat and we have people complaining about the lack of tab targeting and combat where you stand in one spot spamming skills. Sort of proves the supposition that some people just want to be contrary, even if they have to flip sides once they finally get what they say they want...

Action lock means once you press the button you are committed - GW2 has this Rift does not. This is because GW2 does not have a global cool down system (similar to Aion) where as Rift does.

Changing, not evolving and to many people, it is not a change they want to see taking place in just about every new MMO that has recently or will be coming out.
To all closed minded people that only like to see the bad in everything <_<
It's just dumb to judge a game by the minimal amount of information that Carbine is allowing us to see. They do say "don't judge a book by the cover" for a reason. Until you play it and test it for yourself, there is nothing you can really complain about or judge; because you just don't know.
as for wow clone <_< listen to this

Originally posted by Athea This mechanic changes the entire game. The old tab targetting systems are old school. People actually want to have some skill and play against people with skill, having to line up healing,targets,ect... introduces a whole new type of gameplay (such games as Tera, Darkfall, Mortal Online have that type of combat) and it's amazing. I'm glad they chose this.
How does it change the game in any fashion at all?We already have anything this game is doing, the ONLY difference is they are painting the ground red to hand hold you and that is the ONLY difference.
I can line up heals either solo or how many i want in other games using AOE heals that start from where ever i start the target.I have been playing with moving out from AOE range for 10+ years now, i learn the range just by feel and by eye and i learn the mobs in the game,i don't need any system to tell me how the mobs are going to do their spells or skills,i learn it by playing.
Name one way this game is doing anything different in combat aside from the hand holding?
It doesn't bother me if some like hand holding i just don't,that is why i so enjoyed 10+ years in FFXI the ONLY game with zero hand holding. However we should not make it sound like they are doling anything ground breaking just because they paint the ground red.
All .Carbine had to do was give us some mature themed graphics, lose the hand holding and i would give this game some super big props, heck i would play it for sure. This in no way means the game won't be a success or that many won't like it,but i am certain their decisions will alienate a lot of players away from this game.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

the telegraphs -IMO- looks pretty cool and is a good idea for how they are using them. It seems as though a lot of people that talk bad about telegraphs forget that there will be a lot of other factors and things on the map to interact with that will cause telegraphs... So now you have to watch for not only the mobs attacks but the events on that map too. And to be fair... it will allow them to make some really crazy attacks that will be very hard to dodge at the same time being fair to the player and allowing a small window where they could dodge, if any at all. What I mean is that they can now take a skill and randomized that attack so it wouldn't always hit in the same patten. This would mean you wouldn't be able to plan right off the bat where you would have to be to dodge. If they did that with out telegraphs, regardless of how good you think you may be, you wouldn't know where to get out of the way.
In any case.. as i anyways say... you haven't tried it to know. So you can't judge the game by just looking at it..
I never played any mmo's where you have to aim (tried Tera.... meh), there's shooters for that but after watching this video I'm actually feeling like giving it a try, it just looks like fun.

Take your own advice.
And people are hyped about this game?
Im going to hide under the bed and cry for humanity, this is horrible
reminds me of dance dance revolution.
stand where the pc tells you where to stand and when to stand. maybe they could sell one of those dance pads with it.
