It seems a lot of players are swarming to the Ebonheart Pact. If the game turns out to be 50% Ebonheart, 25% Aldmeri, and 25% Daggerfall, how do you plan to balance this in Cyrodiil, and throughout the world?
My question to you is as follows: In the event of a serious over/underpopulation of one or more of the factions, what measures will be taken to ensure that the struggle for Cyrodiil remains somewhat balanced?
My name is Paul Sage, and I'm the Creative Director for Elder Scrolls Online. I will be doing my best to answer your questions about Elder Scrolls Online. I won't be able to answer questions about the business model or the exact release date of the game. I just wanted to throw that out there so no one is upset if I don't answer that question. I'm also not the world's fastest typist, so my answers may be shorter so I can get to more questions.
Enough caveats! I'm glad to be here, and I'd like to thank the MMORPG group and they're community for inviting me. Let's get this thing rolling.
Hello Paul,
I have a few concerns with the direction the game is going currently.
Exploration centric content and "Points of Interest" density is no where near the level of Skyrim and there is to much reliance on linear storytelling. Is this being addressed and do you ever see the same level of Points of Interest per zone as say Skyrim.
Secondly what type of endgame are you shooting for the PvE crowd. As someone who is not at all interested in PvP (AvA) is there going to be content and not just combat related activities that will assist in building communities.
From my understanding there is about 120'ish hours worth of content per faction and there will be adventure zones but not much information is known about it but I feel that a new twist on an old wrinkle is not conducive to long term replayability from a PvE standpoint and I feel that there needs to be other systems in place to make the world feel alive, immersive and virtual.
Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!
Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!
Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!
The game looks great! Im excited to delve into the world and see what is in store for me and my friends.
My concern/question is this:
In every MMORPG and even in Skyrim mages seem to eventually take a backseat to more damage dealing classes. With the exception of AoE attacks mages never seem to get their opportunity to shine, especially in 1v1 combat scenarios. What mechanics do you have in place to ensure classes stay balanced through the entire leveling process and in PvP. Are there ways that mages can specialize in 1v1 combat scenarios?
Thanks Paul

Remember, you'll have access to many of the same abilities and skills as everyone else. How you slot them in your shortcut bar will make the difference, as will your skill, gear, etc. You'll just have to find what works for you in PvP, but no class should be better than another in PvP.
How extensive will loot tables be? I remember in Vanilla WoW there being a multitude of items. Uniquely named items, junk items, crafting items, and oh so many other items. It was staggering. Not everything was limited as it is in Guild Wars 2. In GW2 the gear and weapons are all pretty much the same except crafting lvl, less than 20 total unique skins per weapon/armor class, and 6 tiers of materials for crafting with about 10 types of materials. All-in-all, the potential for a player driven economy in GW2 is extrememly limited. Will ESO have a minimal amount of items in loot tables, with the same names just increased level requirements, a ridiculous overuse of recycling skins from lvl 1-50? How much do you wish to encourage player driven markets?
Either for iOS/Android devices or a Facebook-like app for ESO?
I do hope there will be an official App that we can sign in to and view our account settings, profile, characters, items, data, crafting information and items, guilds, friend, trading, current news posts, and story/lore of a persons characters and such? Or even books that we find in-game would be available to read in the App, that would be really cool and a nice on-the-go, or a right before play feature.
I just don't go to wiki's usually..
I know this is a long shot but I really hope some of these features get implemented in an official Zenimax and ESO App!
In Elder Scrolls V :Skyrim some standing stones like The Ritual Stone And Tower Stone give you abilities that can only be used once per day are these abilities going to be available in TES Online and if so how will they work because i don't think it would be good to wait 24 hours real time
Hey Paul, thanks for your time on giving us insight on this epic game!
QUESTION:
Crafting in other ES games have been a sort of grind, gathering enormous amounts of materials of sitting in said crafting spot grinding out the daggers, potions, or gloves to quickly speed things along due to crafting max level gear is a huge advantage in the single player games. I know you say items will be equal when it comes to effectiveness if the item was looted from a dungeon or crafted by a player of equal level from the dungeon. Will the grind be as taxing to become an effective crafter?
Originally posted by manio22 Will it be a model where a class can change spec "on the fly" during an instance or a raid, to fit various roles?
Not sure if I understand, but you will have skills and abilities you acquire in the game. More than you can use at any one time. You can select skills that make up a role, and you can definitely switch your abilities out when not in combat. In combat you have two shortcut bars once you get past level 15. (Add a weapon swap.) By switching weapons, you have a completely new shortcut bar you can fill with whatever abilities you like. You can do this in combat.
Hey! I really appreciate you coming here to answer our questions. I'm sorry if you've released info on this beforehand, I can only keep up with so much during a busy busy life :P
I was wondering how the bifurcation between crafting and wow-type loot tables will be handled? How will the best gear be obtained? Can I craft without having to raid (adventure zoning?) Will the in-game economy be built on the back of crafters or adventurers?
Also, will there be housing? (as in skyrim? or perhaps SWG [in my wildest dreams?])
I know that there will be open dungeons, world boss and explorer adventures (that we don't know exactly how they will work) as raid contents, but these contents are OPEN (btw I don't know if explorer adventures will be open too) so anyone can join them. With that being said, I'd like to know if there will be some instanced raid (10+ players) to do, for exemple, only with guild mates.
Thank you.
I think the best answer is essentially, "yes." While we don't call them 'raids' it's a safe-enough correlation.
In previous Elder Scrolls games there were daily powers (usually racial abilities such as the Nord's Woad and such) that could only be used, well, daily. Will these types of abilities be in game? And will they be Daily type powers as before or are they going to become Ultimates?
How will stealth be implemented in PvP? Will a sneaking character turn transparent? Their name plate disappear? Their marker disappear from enemies minimap?

Yes naming, and we are discussing other means of customization for crafters internally. We'll post more as we actually see it in-game.
Hello Paul, thank you for doing this and making a game that will be amazing.
QUESTION: If I were in Cyrodiil, and I was running around and came across a fortress or structure of some sort that was being guarded by the Aldmeri or the Ebonheart (since I plan on playing Daggerfall), could I attempt to take over that structure by myself (or with a small group) and have a chance of taking it?
My Question isnt about combat, but its something that is really important to me in a MMO, or game in general
IS there any type of housing system? And if so,( Or if ya plan to make one) Will it be instanced? Or can I be wandering the wilderness and find a buddies house?

Hi Pual,
my questions is will there be methods of transportation like: teleporting, fast travel, or possibly a flying mount?
Thank YOU!
We don't have a dueling system in of that type currently.
Will arrows like homing missiles chance their direction if target moves?

No. There are others. We have what we call smart heals, and we have some other types of healing.
