TraconTracon Member UncommonPosts: 20

all i can tell right now is that is more of a morrwind style were you actualy have to use the skill or do some type of dmg to get xp.

I play the philippine version right now. Basically this is how it works..

In regular games you play to level up and once you have gained a level you receive "stat points". And u can spend these points in leveling up your status. Like strength, speed and stuff. But here in RF, when you level up, instead of gaining stat points, what you get is the ability to increase your status. ::::07:: Ok confuced?
Say for example, you are level 10. So for a level 10 charactor, the maximum strength you can have is lets just say 9. So in your status window it would show that your strength is 9/10. And 9 is the cap for level 10. Which means you cant have 10 or 11 strenght when you are at level 10. Got it??
And now lets just say you keep on playing and you level up... Now if you check the status window, it would show something like 9/12.. (or 9 out of whatever the maximum strength you can have at level 11). Thus giving you the ability to level up your strength to 12/12. And that dosent nessasarily mean that you automatically get 12 strenght as soon as you are level 11.
How do you get 12 and reach the cap? You have to earn them...
For example, if you are a warrier using meelee attack, there is something called "short range attack". So in order to level up your short range attack, you must keep using them.. The more you use your short range attack (means using meelee weapons) the better.
But lets say you reach the cap for that status before you level up again. At this point, it dosent matter if you kee using your meelee weapon or not because you cant gain any more "short range attack" status unless you level up. So what you might want to do is, get a gun or bow or something and use that untill you level up again. So you can even though you are a warrier, you would also be raising your "long range attacks" like a ranger. And doing this has advantages. For example, even if you are a warrier, you need to use skills. And skills cost magic points or force points or w/e you call them. And in order to raise your maximum force points/magic points, you need to increase your "long range attack".
So yah.. the more you get hit is the higher your defence points would be. And higher your defence level the more HP you would have...

ok that makes sense so use it and gain it.

so is class defiened by that you have points in or is it a predfined during char selection?

Ok say for example you selected to be a ranger. For every level you gain, the "long range skill" cap for this class is much higher than other classes. And things like "defence" level cap is much lower. So yes... you can train both long range and short range and do like a dual class kind of thing untill level 30. But you will never be that good of a warrier than a person that chosed the option to be a warrier.

And also if you powerlevel, you will gain levels while you have crappy skills. And then when you get to higher levels, you wont be able to use new weapons b/c you dont meet the skill requirements. So your option will be to use lower class weapons. BUT!!! The problem is that with lower class weapons you cant hit higher level mobs. You'll just keep missing. And if you go to a newbie area where your newbie weapon CAN hit the mobs, you probably wont get any skills b/c those mobs are very low level compaired to your level.

So say for example, if you are a warrier and you powerlevel and when you reach level 35 you realized that you cant keep going, the only thing you can do is to DELETE THE CHARACTOR AND START OVER!!! And even if you are in a higher level with crappy skill levels, someone that actually grinded all their status and are in a lower level than you will be more powerful than you in a PvP battle....

Your buffs and attack skills work the same way... You start off with one attack skill and 2 self buff skills. The more you use them the higher the level they would be.. So dont leave any of your attack skills or buff skills behind....

::::24::thats makes complete sense i played other games similar to rf online like priston tale for instance as a some what similar thing to what your talking about like using certain things like short range mele & use it alot makes it stronger & the exp i get it use yur short range so u can level up slower then power levelers but be more fierce against a player like lets say your a "spell caster" with a blade/wand & battling a mech with gun/sword & they powerlevel as a mech & you attack them & win since you took your time to battle threw & make your skills & ranges stronger so it would be pretty easy to win yet powerleveling never came to me in a game i played for a while since i take my time since when is it a contest to get to that level 1st, (ragnarok holding that lame contest of who can level up the fastest same with priston tale) well i dont know much like what class gets what weapon or armor thought all i can do is try it when it comes out & see for my self how it works::::30::

Thats a terrific idea, stopping powerlevelers has always been a pet peeve of mine. I'm glad they developed a system that punishes you for it. Anyone else tired of level 200 characters that dont know how to use a level 20 skill?

Eh, I am a "powergamer" I guess. And casual gamers are my pet-peeves :P

But anyways, the PG is still going to come out first, since they'll have the more play-time to max out everything.

is it at all similar to the way EverQuest handled such things? That is the impresion I get from reading this thread.

    Yeah, I'd do Betty....
But I'd be thinking about Wilma.

This method sounds exactly like World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy XI.

Like in WoW your skill with 1H swords could cap out at like 50 at lvl.10, and then when you level up to 11 your maximum 1H sword skill increases to 55.  Then throughout that level as you use your sword more and more your skill will increase to 51/55 to 52/55 and eventually cap out at 55/55.

I thought it was a nice system but the only thing I disliked about it was that, say your lvl.20 and you've used an axe throughout your entire game so far.  You then come across a really nice sword but you can't use it because your sword skill is horrible.

Other than that I think the system will work nicely with RF Online.
