The most feature rich mmorpg on the market will continue to grow. Play it now or later, it doesn't get any better, unless you like spaceships.
What you're watching is a preview of the new clan system, which Cname was so kind to outline
Cname
There are a total of 6 new playable faction clans in the new Chinese AoW expansion (which can be translated as “Upheaval”). One can also play a school-less, non-faction clan affiliated character.
Note that joining certain faction clans would cause your character to be automatically marked as enemies by hostile NPC factions.
Out of the 6 faction clans, 3 are publicly known and 3 are “hidden”.
The three public clans are:
- Golden Needles Family Clan – a chivalrous neutral faction of healers skilled inusing golden needles as long range projective weapon. Members can also gain exp by performing correct diagnosis and healing sick NPCs.
- Villa of the Beast – a neutral good faction based near the Beggar Clan. Members can tamed animal companions and are skilled in fighting with bare-hands.
- The Xu Manor – a chivalrous good faction who use a measuring rod (ruler) as their primary weapon. They can use Emei weapons instead of rulers but with a 30% penalty. Members have additional perks in living skills.
The three hidden clans have more stringent requirements for joining and their bases are not reachable by outsiders under normal circumstances:
- Peach Blossom Island – a neutral evil faction located on a island. They have skills of disguise and changing faces and use a flute as their primary weapon and musical notes attacks. They can use a sword in place of a flute but with a 30% penalty.
- Palace of the Moving Flowers – an almost exclusively female neutral “lunatic” faction. Weapon are finger protectors (nail guards) and members have evasive skills and the ability to redirect damages deal by opponents back against the attackers.
- The Rootless clan – a sinister evil faction consisted almost exclusively of castrated males with an underground palace as its HQ. Skilled in both melee and long range attacks using a sword.
Beside the new playable clans the Upheaval expansion also implemented a dynamic weather and day/night system and (at least for the Chinese version) added voice acting to some of the NPCs and cut-scenes.

"There are at least two kinds of games.
One could be called finite, the other infinite.
A finite game is played for the purpose of winning,
an infinite game for the purpose of continuing play."

Anyone with lots of money to spend could do the same for just about every game out there through ebay or other avenues.. Oh and EVE allows this as well....

Yes, that is the case for this game. It takes VIP at least 6 months to get 4 Meridian to max, imagine 6, then 8 later.
Also, with 4th internal manuals, it will take much longer and they plan to have up to 10 internal. This is not even mention about about Jinghu skills and internals and level others skill.
This is why lots of people in CN server bought account and thus that is the main reason why they have Character Trading feature. Snail wants a profit in selling and buying character and anyone who is willing to spend thousands of dollars can get the best character at Day1.
This will bring more profit for Snail since instead of spending lots of time and money to develop a character, they can spend a huge amount of money and get the best character instead.
Yet millions sell and buy through third party sites all across the genre with no worries.
As for doing nothing about getting hacked, I'd have to see it to believe it. Doubt I ever will since I have no desire to play AOW.

This feature also exists in EVE, where is not a problem at all, but I ignore if it's the same in AoW. Can anyone with a fair amount of knowledge of the game explain if this is a good or a bad thing, please?

You are correct, if you are talking about School Headmasters and beating the guys who hang around Chengdu arena all day. The game rewards time put in. I do understand though.
You can be competitive through professions and the market though. You can be #1 of any profession with about an hour to two a day.
don't know man. There has been no word of it for over here. Just CN version. It could be in, it could be out, who knows.
To the guys that will buy fully upgraded chars, i say
See you in chendu arena and BRING IT ON!!!
