How good will the EQNext engine be?

KiyorisKiyoris Member RarePosts: 2,130

I wonder a bit about the EQNext engine they will use.

I heard they use the same one of Planetside 2. So I went to the planetside 2 site to read the required specifications.

Don't you think that is a big high or is that ok for you. The recommended specs seem really high.

Planetside 2 uses an INSANELY good engine to run its game so it being the same engine Planetside 2 is using.

    PRETTY DAMN GOOD.

Hasn't it already been released that Everquest Next does in fact use the Planetside 2 Engine?

If that is the case, do as some of the other site users have done, download Planetside 2 and see what kind of FPS you get.

    Just because I'm a gamer doesn't mean I drive a Honda.

Forgelight (PS2 engine) was created for Everquest Next, but Planetside 2 released first. SoE have a team dedicated to the engine.

Doesn't seem to high to me, I just built a new computer, but my old computer was just below the recommended gfx card wise...and my wifes 5-6 year old computer, its card, which was high end, is in the same spot performance wise probably.

They said they wanted it to be able to run on a big range of computers, so you should be fine.

I took these in Planetside 2. Should give you an impression of the engine.

PS2 runs like a dog on low end systems, I hope they improve its performance, because EQ2 supported a wide range of systems but was terrible to play on low end systems too.

Recommended is a close match to the new PS isnt it ?

Doesn't seem high to me, even my old machine 5+ years is well above Minimum specs, and a new medium priced pc (not a laptop) will easily meet the Recommended spec aswell.

I think we can expect the engine (Forgelight) to be matched against the PS hardware, and to perform well enough on such. If a SoE game require optimizations in the engine they will make that happen, because Forgelight is their own engine and they got full control, as opposed to a 3rd party engine.

PS2 is well known to be proof of concept for EQ:N , I never had lag when I played PS2 so I'm optimistic!
