People are going by evidence so far.

-Terry Michaels yesterdy: "I would not call this game a hardcore MMO. We want something that is accessible to a larger number of people"

-The little combat that was shown so far used red squares so you would know where to stand and it consisted of a warrior soloing doing LEEROY JENKINS moves.

-It looks like a Disney adventure

What exactly do you want people to think? That it is some hardcore adventure but with cutesey graphics? Don't kid yourself, you're going to be even more disappointed than EQ vets.

So far we know you'll have 8 abilities maximum at any one time and it's gonna be on the PS4. I'd say the burden is on you to show why it won't be an easy mode faceroller.

    Dota has 4 abilities.

Why don't you go ahead and dominate the scene while you're at it. Since, clearly, the number of abilities and how "actiony" is all that matters. It must be a faceroll game according to you.

Even better, go play Demon's Souls. It doesn't even have abilities. It's actiony. It's a console game. Console games are easy, right.

    Favorite MMO: Vanilla WoW
    Currently playing: GW2, EVE
    Excited for: Wildstar, maybe?

Not saying it will or wont be faceroll, but 8 buttons on PS4 is not an indicator of either.

Wow, that video was just horrible. Really bad and simple cartoon graphics, huge/low detail and goofy looking player armor and weapons. Gimmicky combat. If you told me I was watching a trivial game like WoW or GW2, I would have believed you.

This thing just instantly fell off my radar. I guess a second chance for an incredible game like EQ1 again will be dead forever. This game has incredible fail written all over it.

You know... if you are using that as evidence how ignorant you sound right? So let me guess you assume disney movies to be all kiddie and far worst written then say the Die Hard movie?

Anyways as further retort to this comment...  Yeah this is a very kiddie and easy mode game here right, only 2 button and the direction keys with that lame anime/cutsey dialog boxes and cutsie looking boss! Totally kiddie which naturally means not hardcore like due to those graphics!

Seriously, its funny how ignorant people are. YES we can speculate stuff, but throwing in 'its this or that' is just stupid. Sure, I don't like everything I hear thus far, but it doesn't mean i'm discrediting it either.

That's my point, genius. We don't know yet. You're assuming a lot of things. I'm going by what we actually know for sure at this point.

Well, let's look at it objectively.  Which of the numerous 8-button action games do you consider as having deep and complex combat?   I remember TSW as being quite good, but it was limited to 5-person combat last i played.

The number of abilities isn't an indication of the level of difficulty in the game.

But in the video we saw, you have a warrior taking down 20 mobs before the caster can throw out 1 spell. That's what is  making it seem way too easy. Now maybe they were in god mode and that's why they didn't care to stand in the path of damage we don't know yet.

I just miss the old time when you would need to team up to clear the trash mobs and a bad pull would most likely mean death or evac.

Exactly. In EQ killing one mob actually took time, coordination and strategy.

This is just.........argh.............I can't stand these faceroll easymode games anymore

You're countering the argument of the game being easy by pointing to the AI difficulty of which you know nothing about yet. You're assuming. Please don't. Stick to the facts, sir.

I responded in another thread to someone who jumped on the word "hardcore" in Smedley's or someone else's description of EQ Next by saying this is simply marketing.  The word "hardcore" is one of those buzzwords that gamers love to hear and make them feel all squishy inside.  What we do know is Sony is aiming to get as many players as possible, so of course "hardcore" in the sense of perma death and FF open world PvP will not be central to the game.  As I listened to Georgeson the other day and read about the game, I kept thinking ...."so like GW2".   I realize GW2 is becoming as polarizing a game as WoW these days, but lets face it:  WoW and now GW2 have a large number of players.  If you want to aim at a mass market, the game will have to be playable by people with varying degrees of skill and MMO experience.  No doubt the majority of the content will be "easy" in the words of the"hardcore"  group on here who seem to dislike anything that isn't head bashing frustrating to play.

They demo'd abilities that were clearly designed to take on large numbers at once? Why would they do that in a demo if the focus was on longer strategic one on one combat? No, this game is about action at a high rolling "keep-it-moving" pace. Yeah, I think there is a lot of credibility to those demos as to how the action combat is going to roll. Literally.....roll.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, no need to call people dumb because they aren't liking the art style or combat. The moderators here let people post stuff like this, but if you say something negative about the game your thread gets locked? Makes no sense.

It's ok. They're just upset because they can't point to any facts that indicate the game won't be faceroll. Let them vent.

One thing I am not ignorant to is the fact that this game is SOE and SOE has not put out a great title in a long, long, long time. I have no hope in a developing team that has not proven themselves.

I do hope for the sake of something different that even 20% of the hype holds true for EQ Next.

    Define "deep and complex".

You mean, "don't stand in the fire"?  Or maybe, something like this guy?

These are MMO's.  There's not a single damn one of them that's really brain surgery.   It's more like cat herding.

I'm still going to try the game, but I agree with the other idiots. What we know points to easy mode combat without pulling, CC or group interdependence.

We can only go by what we see. The launch surprised me, even blew me away like the devs said it would. I know that I could be pleasantly surprised again and the combat isn't as awful as it looked.

EQ1 combat isn't even fun anymore. And it was only fun then because it was so new.

so i was really disapointed with guildwars 2 because i had played guildwars 1. Since i never played the previous everquests i have no expectations for this, so i could like it or not like it. In all honesty the thing that interests me the most about the game is the building aspect tho :<. So its f2p and it could be fun possibly lol
  • observerobserver Member RarePosts: 3,685
I guess some of you didn't see the mob putting down a red target ring on the ground.  WoW and GW2 both have these.

lets look at it like this

1 the mob UI was obviously turned off

2 I am sure that the devs use a "god mode" feature for demos

3 have you ever gone to a starter zone on a fully decked out char?  Of course everything is going to look like a faceroll, they are showing what the skills look like, not how much damage they do
