I know everyone is talking about the destructible world, the AI, the eight combat slots and all of that stuff but I would like to focus on something much more important. Trolls as a playable race need to be back in this new version of EQ. While on this topic, I would also like to see Gnomes make a come back so Trolls will have something to eat.

All the Trolls must be busy scratching their backsides.
/scratch ;p
Little forum boys with their polished cyber toys: whine whine, boo-hoo, talk talk.
I would like to see all races from EQ1 / EQ2 return, well except maybe Drakkin unless they finally evolved and learnt how to run properly. Yes, even Fae, as annoying as their voices were.
Gnomes are mentioned in the ebook on the EQN site:
"It contained a mix of all the races that formed the Combine—elves, dwarves, ogres, humans, kerrans, and gnomes."
Based on world story overview during the lore panel the Iksar will probably be a playable race as well. Not sure about Trolls though, hopefully.
I agree but listening to the lore panel I get the idea that there will not be many existing towns or cities when EQN first launches. They seem to be wanting to roll out content that the players themselves help build and shape somewhat like a pure, but directed, sandbox. The lore start for the game has the Combine army heading back home and founding Qeynos which starts out shabby from the sounds of it.
I do hope there at least end up being major racial cities that cover large stretches of land mass. Can yout imagine though? Each race coming off the same boats and being a part of eventually building each races empire over months or years?
The more races the better and they better have some good char creator
no fae tho..
I'm all for as many races as possible... this is all we know so far tho
http://www.vg247.com/2013/08/05/everquest-next-has-more-than-40-classes-five-listed/
Five of the classes have been revealed so far: Rogue, Warrior, Tempest, Blademaster and Wizard.
The playable races are Dwarf, Human, Ogre, Elf, Dark Elf and Kerran.

I see that they are re-inventing the world, and with time I can also see them adding newer races as well. Since the first world even is building the cities, I can see that we are in the beginning of history making Qeynos, Freeport, Halas and such. Later on, the Troll race gain more cohesion, they might start making their city, and they will become a playable class. After that, the frogs get blessed by Erelossi Marr, since she got tired of the trolls having them for dinner, and they will go in and kick the trolls out of their home, and become a playable race known as the Froglok ect...
I am really looking forward to how this lore turns out... specially if each server is going to progress through these differently... Hmmm... maybe the trolls never let the frogs conquer their city and we never fully open the froglok race ^_^
we havent seen an ingame pic for the ogre yet but the ogre art doesnt look cute
the EQN ogre art reminds of Ogre Magi from D&D

Trolls are obviously my favorite EQ race, I can't really see myself playing EQ as anything else.
The above is my personal opinion. Anyone displaying a view contrary to my opinion is obviously WRONG and should STHU. (neener neener)

Remember when WoW came up with their worldwide sub numbers and SOE scrambled for an asian release with updated asian character features for EQ2 ?
Here's the ogre:
BEFORE AND AFTER
People keep saying that the cartoonish characters are to appeal to a younger market. I respectfully disagree, and propose that it's the asian market (which has more gamers with computers with substantially lower specs) and console gamers they are actually after.
While it is true that the over-embellished armor is a hallmark of WoW, it's something we've come to expect from decidedly Eastern titles as well.
Nice FuManChu that EQN ogre model has, don't you agree?

Gnomes have been confirmed as being in the game if I remember right, but not necessarily as a player race (yet?)
I'd say there's a very high chance when the game does finally roll out there'll be a good chunk of races available.
Races that likely won't be playable (that currently are in EQ/EQ2) :
Vah Shir - They are an offshoot of the Kerrans, and I don't think, in terms of the time period of EQN, that they've even been transported to Luclin yet, as Erudin should not have been founded yet, if Qeynos is just being founded.
Drakkin - They weren't even created until after the events of Planes of Power.
Ratonga - They are on offshoot of the Roekillik race from deep within the Underfoot.
Fae - As the playable race, they did not evolve into that state until after the events of Planes of Power.
Arasai - Weren't created (to my knowledge) until after the rending, but at the very least, after Planes of Power.
Those are the 5 that we'll likely not see playable anytime soon, if ever. Yes this game is set in an alternate timeline, so things are subject to change, but as the events to created these races have not occurred, it's likely we'll never see them.
The Ratonga will probably be the only one of the 5 that we ever get to play truthfully.
The ogre is probably the one case where I actually care a little about the art direction.
Just because I liked the big funny looking butt scratching ogres from EQ 1 classic.
