Low Poly modelling is easy mode and allows low end computers to be ran? Are you -really- that daft? Because it couldn't possibly be about bringing out good quality content at good/expedient, equipment and opening up the armors for customization - no. Even the panel they said that they're doing it to open it up for a great deal of customization for the player. So you can create your character how you see fit. And if you even had an iota of an idea on how modelling works - you'll know that sub-d / high poly modelling detail can come out of the objects textures *not* from the model itself. And that would -just- be for the model itself. The character models, really in the facial area, polycount is probably insane to get that detail in the face when they do character reactions - really with SOEmote.
The rest of the OP is crap that I completely disagree with it. But, Ive never played EQ before so w/e. But, I know for a fact that Low Poly modelling isn't something thats just done for 'easy' mode. You're fucking insane if you think its just for that.

+1 Kharisha. This overwhelming sense of entitlement from consumers these days is outrageous. You pay for a service, you receive a service. If you are not satisfied with the service, you speak with the person in charge and they either make it right and keep you as a customer, or they tell you to move along and you take your business elsewhere. A game company is a business, whether you like it or not, and they have to make money somehow. Rehashing the same game isn't going to bring in more money and make the company any more profitable.

I have been and still am an Everquest subscriber since '99 (also played beta 3 and on). I have held at least 1 (up to 6 at one point) recurring subscriptions for each year since release, and have played off and on throughout. Even when I go months without playing, I do not cancel my subscription because I want to continue to support a company that has provided me with such an invaluable experience, and I also want to do my part in keeping the cash shop from getting out of hand. I also participated in the guide program for multiple years until I got married and started having children.
I personally love the trinity, and I have stood by it until I saw the information for EQN. I hated GW2. I do however think that the way EQN is being designed (with limited information of course) is the way the genre needs to progress.

I played EQ and I played EQ2. I read comments from a lot of former (and current) EQ/EQ2-players who are looking forward to EQN including myself. I got what I wanted for my money: great games to play. I do not feel entitled to anything else from SOE.
They can only be upset because they have no idea what the full game will be like and those EQ players might have expected a full presentation of atleast 75% of the game complete the very first time SOE actually showed the game to the public.. Can't think of anything else that might have gotten the EQ player upset.....sorry but to be honost I still hardly believe true EQ players are actually upset. As far I knowq EQ players arn't really sheep behaviour type of people. They might become upset, but only when they actaully had a change to play the game themselfs.
And this topic mght have been something if the game was already in a open beta.
Yeah as a EQ player myself , I like the direction SOE is taking. We don't know much about EQ Next and a lot of assumptions are being made about it. I imagine its going to be harder and more challenging then people think simply for the fact that you never know what your going to run into while exploring the world. As someone who played UO for five years trinity was never needed in it and players had guilds, player made cities and very strong community that is still active even today. I for one welcome back the sandbox.

EQ2 was meant as, again, a spiritual successor, but then ended up changing it later to bring in a broader audience.
In other words EQ2's developers attempted to "Mainstream" it post-release, but ended in failure. You can't mainstream a product post-launch, it has proven time and time again to be a BAD idea. So this time they're doing it during developement with EQ:Next.

Is essentially due in part that SOE over time has tried to pull new people into EQ1 by implementing a LOT of WoW's features into EQ thereby destroying what it used to be.
Many of us don't feel like the current EQ is EQ at all, and has been slowly NGE'd from its original presentation. This is why "Time Locked Progression" servers were so hellishly popular (seriously, 1982 player queues for Fippy Darkpaw in its first month). Unfortunately once those progression servers went well past Luclin, the turning point for many, the population dropped like a literal rock. Those servers are almost ghost towns now because they're into expansions everyone from the original EQ HATES with a passion.
So why the fuss over EQ:Next? Well, to put it bluntly, we wanted a fresh start with a fresh mindset but within the EQ franchise. Some hoped SOE was simply going to do an EQ1 rehash, but this time being a true sandbox game.
The fuss about the "Graphics", or Art-Style, is all about the fact that being "Stylized" means having low-poly models that are meant for "Mainstream" audiences. When they go the Mainstream route for graphics it is almost a certainty that they are going to dumb everything else down as well. Everquest has never been an "easy" franchise, that's why it isn't mainstream. Everquest fans are used to working for what they have, and not being able to buy power or simply walk over encounters that should be hard.
What they're doing with Everquest:Next is absolutely no different than the developers for WoW coming in and saying they're changing the Warcraft franchise up to be a 100% open-world pvp sandbox game with hardcore death penalties and ruthless political warfare with hardcore demanding graphics. Quite frankly, WoW fans would go ABSOLUTELY nuts in the most negative way possible, just like EQ:N fans. Why so many of you are shocked by this is a surprise in and of itself.
When someone comes in to ruin something that is special to you, you get upset. That's what this is to MANY Everquest fans, a complete disrespect of the Everquest franchise just to get more money. SOE is abandoning the fans that have supported their paychecks for more than 10years for a different audience.
Say what you want, but it does hurt. That's all, and I know for a fact that if someone came in to change up everything about something you care about you'd be upset, too.

You know its funny. I wasn't a huge EQ player back in the day. I was more UO and AC because of the PVP part. But, over the years I've grown to really love the original EQ experience. I was really hoping that EQ Next would of been a modern version of EQ1.
Something that was difficult, mediation, downtime, real reasons to group. Death penalty etc... I'm really disappointed in EQNEXT. Not because, I don't think it will be a good game, but because I was hoping for a modern version of the EQ experience. The sense of having to explore zones and work for items etc... The first trip from Freeport to Qeynos wow....
I really would like to see another EQ1 remake and still an EQNext. They are different games and will fill a different spot for each gamer.
This is a game first of all. They said "thank you" already at SOE LIVE 2013. What else do you want? SOE devs can't just make your Dream game or mine. They are making a product that they are going to be proud of. They are making the game that they always wanted to make.

SOE has some cool concepts for this game. Then they have the things that they are blatantly ripping off of more popular games- mainly combat mechanics and graphical perspective. These decision all have to do with trying to grab more players, not what anyone actually "wants to make". They want to make a shit load of money and have decided that grabbing WoW, GW2 and MOBA players is the best way to do it. They're probably right, but don't try to pass of market driven decisions as "creative freedom." It just makes you seem naïve.

I agree with the not speaking for me part. I was a beta tester for EQ and logged numerous hours into it. With that said, I'll wait for more information to surface before I make any judgement's. All I can say is that I have been sick and tired of were this genre has gone and is going for the last 6 years. Something needs to change. The wheel needs to be reinvented. I been grinding this same pattern out since its inception and I am sick of it.
I cannot log into anything and find enjoyment. Been there, done that hundreds of thousands of times. I don't have the answers I just know that as a veteran gamer and MMO gamer, I need some refreshingly new. Until then I am pretty much done...

Stop making stuff up. EQ2 didn't do well because of its graphic engine which made even best system crawl and on top of that it lacked content from lvl 30 onwards. So nope it didn't faily because it was simply a 'wow clone'.

Just imagine going into a new eq and seeing not the 2d graphic bar in qeynos but a 3d one with the Graphics of ESO/Skyrim/Anyupdated graphic game out now, and AI that talks to you about norrathian stories while you have a beer?
You can bash WoW as easy OP, but i think you forget a few details here. When WoW was still Vanila it was one of the most hardcore mmo's out there. Both in raiding and PvP. There were guilds stuck in the 1st raid dungeons for over a year. Most broke apart !
TBC introduced heroic modes, it took months for the number one raid guilds to get progression. Karazan is where all the casuals went and wiped untill their eyes bleeded. Some dint even see the second or third raid instance.
It became easier once WoTLK was introduced, when WoW reached their top of 12.7 million players. Causals were vocal, depended epics in the mailbox, no effort, no wipe nights.
Graphics has nothing to do with hardcore or casuals. I coulnt give a rats ass about wich engine is used, or a Tauran cow or a lion in armor.
I want to be pushed to the max of my ability in endgame, i expect my brothers in arms to have similar mindset. Progresion raids, wipe nights, nerd screams, victory's in both carebear land and competive pvp.
I cannot comment on EQ 1 and EQ 2 as i did not play it long enough to cast a verdict. But i can gues that if EQ endgame was hardcore and similar to WoW's endgame we share the same feeling.
EQN might just become a similar game to GW2, No healers and no tanks makes these type of games. No amount of AI is going to change this. No amount of cool dps classes is going to change this. No amount of big talk is going to change this.
SOE had the chanse of giving a killing blow to many mmo's on the market, but they instead had this strange idea of twitch combat rpg style vision..... I dont like it one bit, none of my friends like it.

You sir need a history lesson, and possibly grammar as well. EQ2 might have released before wow but about a year or so after release they completely changed the game, including combat and coincidentally enough the combat was now very similar to wow. And also the NGE version of EQN? do you even know what NGE means? Go play on the private server for SWG pre NGE and see if it is as awesome as you remember.

Have you checked out EQ1's graphics. Those graphics do no hold up well over the course of time. Heck look at Age of Conan, when that game out it was lauded as being realistic but just a few short years later you can already tell the dated look has set in.
Somehow I doubt EQN will be designed with the casualness of "everything else".

Almost every one of the complaint posts here are from Old school eq1 and eqoa players. Which means the 33% are made up of old school eq players.

SOE had the chanse of giving a killing blow to many mmo's on the market, but they instead had this strange idea of twitch combat rpg style vision.....
I dont like it one bit, none of my friends like it.
We were praying that we could finaly play a healer and tank again, things we missed so much in GW2, wich we all quited or just play for fun these days.
SOE missed a huge opertunity.
You sir need a history lesson, and possibly grammar as well. EQ2 might have released before wow but about a year or so after release they completely changed the game, including combat and coincidentally enough the combat was now very similar to wow. And also the NGE version of EQN? do you even know what NGE means? Go play on the private server for SWG pre NGE and see if it is as awesome as you remember.

Have you checked out EQ1's graphics. Those graphics do no hold up well over the course of time. Heck look at Age of Conan, when that game out it was lauded as being realistic but just a few short years later you can already tell the dated look has set in.
Somehow I doubt EQN will be designed with the casualness of "everything else".
