    So funny how everyone forgets how well top of the line graphics worked out for EQ2 at launch.  Everything looked nice during the slideshow...

    I have a i5 3.4ghz 660 GTX 8 gig ram and still cant play EQ2 without a massive FPS drop on max settings.

    No I prefer a game that runs great on my  computer but makes me giggle like a 12 year old every time I look at my toon.

    guess they r screwed then coz thats a majority of the playerbase lost right there

    Yes but there are two things that are hard to distinguish in video gameplay when dealing with RPG's.  1st is emotions.  The Disney style (which really isnt just related to Disney animations) lends itself to easily distinguish emotions. 

    2nd is equipment and distinguishing between different types of armor and overall looks of classes.  Pronounced armor, especially in the shoulders and head help in distinguishing different classes and armor.  Think of a city skyline.  If all cities had 10 story buildings it would not matter how much different the building styles looked for each city.  The skyline from a distance would look a like so you could not tell one city from the next from a distance.  However, since big cities have huge and pronounced buildings, looking from far away you can easily tell say New York apart from Chicago.

    Not to mention they have said that all gear is extremely customizable so if you dont like a larger look some others may like you can simply change it.

    Even with the stylized look, the graphics aren't bad.  It'll grow on you.  If it doesn't, wait until the next realistic-graphic failure.

    Yes, emotions are key in video games. I can see what their idea was, but they did not really think it trough. I think this kind of style induces a completely wrong set of emotions and associations. MMOs are about fighting and feeling badass, not about bipolar mood shifts, jolly songs and schmaltzy love stories. 
    They tried to make the Kerra look badass but to me he looks rather comical, with his big nose.  
    And the shoulder pauldron are very much related to WoW. Im sure they didn't want to go for that.

    Anarchy Online is the exact same way. The old DirectX versions can't interact with the GPU.

    At least that's how I understood it. Not that AO is intensive, but it got troublesome multiboxing.

    As far as the "Disney" look I bet they are adding in more realistic textures as we speak.  Even a slider to add more definition would work I think, take the sheen off for those that don't want to see it.  They did it with SOGA in EQ2 and I'm sure they will add some way to "un-toon" characters to some extent in EQN.

     

    There was that more realistic head model being worked on during the black box video.

    Even with the more simpler character customizations available in MMO's these days, I'm sure you can make the Kerra look totally different hen the one demoed and more to your liking.  The pauldron thing is not just related to wow.  There have been numerous quotes from other game makers about how class distinct and a defined skyline of classes are important in that distinction and also how head and shoulder pieces play an important role in that.  Making those piece more pronuonced is NOT just a WoW thing.

    Explain how that makes sense?  So you want this game to be a themepark instead of a sandbox?  You want every action and event to be scripted?     I was just pointing out  how good a GOOD facial expression system can look with a more "realistic" graphic style, nothing more nothing less.

     

    My post had ZERO to do about single player games, non-mmo's, or any other rubbish you seem to want to put itno my mouth.

    There is a diffrence between cartoony and Disney cartoony.
    WoW and GW2 use the more "mature" cartoon style even Wildstar uses a more "mature" cartoon style.

    They are once again making a big mistake with their style.
    You can like it no doubt, but many are not liking it and it would have been better to pick a littlebit more mature style to show their hero's.

    yup my wife's AMD FX4130 machine with a 660 will run circles around my 3770k with 7870 machine in EQ2 (all at stock clocks)
