Probably some files that didn't need to be included in the 1-20 beta, with them trying to keep download size down a bit?
A few high level dungeons and/or cutscenes they left out or something.
maybe it was 20gb and now its not due to them strippingout all the voice acting on side quests etc LOL
just kidding..
regarding the guy posting the 20gb HD, derp lol seriously now you would not put up a requirement with lacking info and not expect the non techy to not go ,. oh my pc i bought has 20gb hardrive its all it has but should be great for the game! :P
To install Final Fantasy XIV, you must have the amount of free space listed below. The installation destination must have at least 15 GB of free space. The My Documents folder must have at least 6 GB of free space. The Temp folder (“C:Documents and SettingsxxxxxLocal SettingsTemp”) must have at least 1 GB of free space. * If you are using Windows Vista/7, the “C:UsersxxxxxAppDataLocalTemp” folder must have at least 1 GB of free space. * If the format of the My Documents folder is FAT32/exFAT, you will not be able to install the game.
I went to the listed places on my pc.
Install destination folder: 8.54 G
My documents into my games: 4.31 G
Temp folders where empty.
So A 7 gig download in beta test 4 was for me in fact 11.85 G. . . .

you're very right, they are not.
you are just digging your hole deeper. . .
Laptops and notebook computers are PC or "Personal Computer"
the same as "desktop" computers.
the ONLY difference is portability.
ok whatever, a notebook is technically classified as a PC doesnt change the fact that toffxiv you need, *drumroll* Windows Vista in the least. which i believe is at the minimum like 60gb. so yes, while you found a harddrive that was lower than what i said(even though i thought it obvious i was referencing computers, aka desktop computers, you reaaally dug for that loophole, congrats) a 20gb harddrive for notebook still wouldn't allow you to play this mmo. so...congratulations on finding a harddrive -to- small to play ffxiv?

Why is this post getting ignored?
dont know what the fucks up with his shit but my folder in my documents is 49 mb (i hate games that do this too, lot of steam games do that where they create a folder in my documents no matter where you chose to create the installation directory and stuff like screenshots gets saved to that folder in my documents and theres absolutely no way to change this in game.)
I am pretty sure that the high level content is already in, otherwise how are people .dat mining the lvl 50 gear? Were the legacy players limited to lvl 20 content with their lvl 50 characters?
