Will EQN actually release in 2013?

What are the chances that EQ:N will release when SOE says it will (2013)?

I'm somewhat inclined to believe SOE because they have worked on MMORPGs before and by now probably have a good handle on the development timeline. SOE also wants to release their game before the Christmas buying frenzy. SOE has plenty of staff and strong financial backing so they have the capability to complete it when they say it will, which they say is 2013.

However the worrisome part is that if it is releasing in 2013 (as they say) where is the pricing info? Where is the closed Beta programs (not even announced or even hinted at yet)? You can't pre-order it yet, it isn't even included in software vendors software catalogs as "coming soon" yet. Kinda strange behavior if it is releasing in 2013.

I remember the release of EQ2. SOE and Blizzard were neck-to-neck in development and striving to release the first to release the best game. SOE was offering its closed beta 5 months before (big drawing at the time), and slightly-less closed beta 1 month before. If SOE is following the same pattern (and why not, if it works don't fix it) we should have a beta now. QED: EQN will not release in 2013.

Don't get me wrong, I would like a quality game to a unmitigated piece of... junk... that is a waste of money. FFIX is proof of that (relaunching a game is NOT a good business practice). I imagine that the SOE is making their developers sweat long into the night with promises of bonuses, and I wish them well. However I would like a realistic timeline.

What are the chances it will release in 2013?

My understanding was that Landmark was releasing in 2013, but EQN wasn't coming until 2014.

SOE never said eqn would launch this year. The only thing they have said is that Landmark will launch a this winter. And don't forget....winter goes till March.

    I even think 2014 is a little optimistic :P
if it does i bet it will be winter next year if lucky, but i asume 2015 is a better bet then 2014.

    Ok.

Everquest Next Landmark will release this winter.. either end of 2013 or beginning of 2014.

Everquest Next has not an announced release date.

Both are F2P so there are no preorders or anything like that, because you can both start playing for free, though it will most probably exist a subscription option for EQN as with all SOE freemium models and a additional cash shop.

With other words, they have actually two games, and just one is releasing soon. And about Beta.. you can now apply to Beta for EQN and EQN Landmark.

Zero chance EQN will release this year. High chance EQN: Land Mark will or at the latest, early next year (Winter).

As far as pricing, it is F2P. It should cost nothing to download and install. How much access is available without paying once in game is yet unknown. Most likely Sub options and different levels of membership based on Cash Shop purchases or lack of.

    I suspect late 2014 or early 2015

It all depends on how SOE defines Winter.  Winter in southern California doesn't really exist so they may mean anytime after Thanksgiving for that matter.

One does have to wonder what Gold Access will mean to Landmark and EQN.

yea 2015 is realistic and these release rumors and talks 2013 is just naive.

Agreed. I believe if landmark is a success we will see it sooner, but no earlier then late 2014.

Very true. I live about 15-20 min away from SOE in San Diego. Dang never ending sunshine!

Most of what was presented at SOE Live was just a working prototype, with one area in an alpha stage, showing very simplistic encounters.

So it looks like the Voxels are coming along, but the other major features, like Procedurally generated maps, StoryBricks, Dailies / Rally Calls public quests, dungeon crawls, integration of seemless exploration tech / worlds with more than a few players / instancing was not shown ... just short lifeless fly-throughs & screenshots.

Most stuff discussed seems more theoretical than actually presentable, at this time.

So, definitely not 2013.  2015 might not be unreasonable, since SOE is offering their crafting game LandMark sometime in the next 7 (?) months.  I wouldn't be surprised if it was Christmas 2015, then pushed back to Spring 2016.  We'll know more at the next SOE event, August 2014.

They said Landmark would come out winter if 2013 which is basically the last 2 weeks of the year.

    EQN probably late 2014.

Chances are if landmark is a big hit on release, they will probably focus almost all attention at SOE on finishing up NEXT, so i'd say optimistically we can expect NEXT to be finished sometime around summer 2014, and released fall 2014.

I consider 2014 to be optimistic, but not impossible. 2015 seems most likely to me.

Not only is an MMO a huge undertaking, this game (as planned) is innovating in a lot of areas. That stuff all takes time to get right.

The worst thing they could do with such a groundbreaking, genre-redefining title (hopefully) is release it before it's done. The fate of EQN will have major repurcussions for the MMORPG genre. Here's hoping they take all the time they need.

Given the minimal information they are releasing I would say EQN has no chance to release in 2013 and possible may not even release in 2014. My hopes are for mid year 2014, realistically though I don't expect it until the end of 2014. I think we will know more though depending on what happens with Blizzard. I know that Blizzard is slated to release new information about their upcoming expansion for WoW, so Sony may try to release earlier or right afterwards to steal players. We shall see.

i would not assume "no preorders" just because it's FTP.  Could be you buy the box, and the FTP part is no sub fees.

    from EQN FAQ https://www.everquestnext.com/eqn-faq

"EverQuest Next will join our family of free-to-play games. Learn more about SOE's free-to-play games here. We will announce plans for optional in-game purchases via the EverQuest Next Marketplace and Station Cash in the future."

With other words it will be free to download with optional subscriber options and cashshop.. there so called freemium model. Nothing indicates that it will be B2P. Although i personally would favor B2P, to prevent somewhat multiply account creation for exploiting or gold spamming or all other things we don't want.

Actually, prior to SOE live the only timeline we had regarding EQ Next launch date was that players would be playing it this year, and he "doesn't mean a beta."

Unfortunately, since then their philosophy and goals for EQ next have changed and theres really no telling when it will launch.

Landmark is supposed to be available winter of 2013.

From Dave Georgeson's latest tweet "PvP will get discussed at a much later stage. The plan is to launch Landmark and then unveil each section as we grow."

Since Landmark is coming out this Winter then EQN will come out later, hopefully in early or mid 2014.

Landmark is releasing winter, so I'm assuming December/January.  This means that the core mechanics of the engine will be working: the voxel world, procedurally-generated landscape, environment creation tools, and server/network/etc. logistics.

I think this is a pretty significant portion of EQ:Next so I think Christmas 2014 release for the full game is reasonable.  This will give them a full year to flesh out all of the class/combat mechanics, AI, build any non-procedural environments, and test/balance everything.

The outside world to be created, or even the individual dungeons are not procedurally generated, so it is unlikely that would be a necessary part of EQ:Landmark.

I believe the only procedurally generated content will be the underworld, from SOE statements.  The surface exists with fixed Norrath map limits. .. players don't create procedural content, so giving them access to that in EQ:Landmark wouldn't make much sense.

I think the bare EQ:Landmark surface world will be procedurally-generated initially.  I thought that any wilderness will be procedurally-generated in EQ:N as well to keep things fresh for players.  Once a location has something built there, it will remain fixed.

There's not enough information out there to give any kind of educated guess.  We know its been in development for years, we also know Landmarks was not planned.

Winter 2014 is my hope but I have nothing to really back that time frame.

But also ifs not a game i want to see them rush. From the tiny bit we have been told its got some really good  ideas ( or features who knows)

    This is quite interesting.

Basically they stated at the SOE Las Vegas EQ Next unveiling, that you can plan to be in the new world exploring by the end of the year and that you should expect to be getting into the beta or full version of EQ Landmark in only a few months time.

This basically gives them the ability to say that you will indeed get to explore EQ Next landmass, but not actually be in the EQ Next game.

More recently they went on to talk about how players could transfer over the explorer class from EQ Landmark to EQ Next once it is released.

Still they do have a date of 2013 smattered here and there as if the full game will be out before the end of this year. I do believe that if they actually want Landmark items to be in and be good then they will launch Landmark within September 10th-15th window.

This would give players or groups of players the time needed to bang out some good art that gets filtered to the top of the heap and get green lighted for a copy/paste into EQ Next.

There will probably be around 400 item requests with general look and diameters given from then until launch and if all go as planned then we should see it as early as December, or if things go a bit sideways we could be looking at a Beta start in September with a ramp up to launch in March.

I'd guess Q2 2013. Game won't be too far off after landmark launches. They won't want to ruin the momentum by dragging it out.
