I've been spamming the story quests, as well as doing any quest along the way that I find, and on top of all of that I do every fate (or try to) that ever pops up.
Yet, I JUST now last night hit lvl 30 before logging off until Wednesday (since they're doing maintenance from 8pm EST -> 6am EST, i get home at 6pm after work .
Sure, there were Fates day one that would instantly pop so you could just sit and spam them, but that was stealth fixed after 2nd day, and only 10-20 people got to take advantage of it per server. However, i've spoken to several level 50s now that have, on average, 3+ level 50 characters whom claim they never took advantage of that bugged FATE system, but used the current things available.
WHERE are people leveling to 50 in under 3days?!?! I'm no noob to MMOs, or how to grind them, and i've been grinding with relative consistancy of 4-5hrs per day (when it was possible to log in) yet i'm still only 30 !
Are people exploiting broken quests, or still yet to be fixed broken Fates, and it just isn't publicly known ?
Cheers

This.
i know that i was given the option to move my toon from the legacy server a few months ago to a new server. i would imagine that a number of people have already done so.
^^^^^ THIS... I am livid over this 1017 issue and am contemplating whether I will be playing anymore.... I had a group of 21 people who I was to play with, and unfortunately we got split into three servers.... No word of free server transfers means we may never play as a group. This isn't my story alone either, many people are dealing with the friends/group split. This has got to be the WORST launched game every. Very polished play, but rewarding only to those who are unemployed and have literally 0 responsibility in life. Not that I am talking down to these people... its just unfortunate that square enix did nothing to address this problem for those of us who have responsibilities and a day job... All we wanted to do is log on for a few hours of enjoyment. But unfortunately people are staying logged in AFK or simply have nothing better to do with their lives. LoL they can have it, I seriously have better shit to do.
I have seen one or two people fully decked out in their Artifact gear or whatever it's called - the job specific set you can see during character creation.
Which I think means they've done all the story quests for that job up to 50.
Also saw one person on the Unicorn, White Mage specific mount I think.
This is on a non-legacy server.
Some people probably got to 20-30 during open beta, then to 30-40 during head start and now 50 and other 50's during release.
Not at all surprising, happens every MMO release.
Frankly, I just don't see the point in rushing.
Then why are you here?
To op: Most likely legacy characters, although I have found it really easy to get to level 12 in just one evening so I don't think its that hard to achieve 50, heck I even made it to 20 pretty easily in beta.
People have been poop-socking in MMOs since the beginning. It's nothing new. Every MMO has the poop-sock crowd at the beginning.
Still and all, even average players who are able to log in are playing this game a huge amount of time right now.
You are right. I was just thinking about this myself. I've played way more that it's healthy to. I wonder if it's the 1017 thing? I actually log out when I'm done playing, so I'm wonder if it's a "I have to keep playing, otherwise I'll have to deal with 1017 again" type of thing.
Clinging to old flames.
Most memorable games: AoC(Tryanny PvP), RIFT, GW, GW2, Ragnarok Online, Aion, FFXI, FFXIV, Secret World, League of Legends (Silver II rank)
Someone I know who's playing should be hitting 50 this week. We played open beta, early access and he kept playing after launch. It hasn't even been two weeks yet!
People capping so fast are simply rushing. They're skipping quest dialogues and probably half paying attention to the cutscenes.
Don't forget how you're spoonfed quest objectives...
Also there are search engines, wikis, WoWhead-like websites and whatever else is out there.
It's the age we live in. Where it's "GO GO GO" and "OMG IT'S A GRIND" if getting to max level takes more than two weeks.
Then again...has there been a single MMORPG launched with enough content (straight up content...) to last you at least 3 months without having to grind monsters whatsoever?
Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:
A. Proven right (if something bad happens)
or
B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)
Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime!

Not only that but you can milk turn in Fate's by farming their entire duration instead of turning in and finishing. You can get 3 times the exp just from farming the constant repops than you get from the actual Fate completion.
You only need to get to Conjurer 30 to get the unicorn so seeing one on a non-legacy server is not a big deal, and I'm pretty sure that you can get the unicorn even before the White Mage job, so the mount is class-specific and not job-specific.
I imagine people who are playing all day, unlike myself, are now getting to 50 at this point, but multiple 50s seems like too big of a time investment for the limited time the game has been out so I'd most likely say that they are legacy people who purposely rolled on a non-legacy server just to show off.
^^^ This.
Fates give way more exp than a quest of your level, most give 2x or 3x compared to quests.
In active areas Fates can spawn non stop. You can easily get 1 level per hour in your 30's and probably through 50 by grouping up with a couple people and running from Fate to Fate.
Take a break every 5 levels to do your Storyline to unlock your skills and you could hit 50 with full story in less than 60 hours played or 3-4 days of extreme play time (12-16 hours a day).
Yeah, I ran across some people doing this on my server so I always try to kill off the main monster out of spite just to end their Fate and their farming. Power levelers annoy me in general and I consider power leveling for this game in particular as going against the entire spirit of the FF franchise which is about following the storyline imo.
When you had a 1.0 character (which I did), your only option was which of the legacy servers you could put the toon on.
There is no option at the moment to play a legacy character on a non legacy server.
FATEs are nuts. I got from 37 to 41 in about 3.5 hours. It's addicting cause exp just goes so fast, but I almost feel its a "cheap" way of leveling.. and I get bored of the button mashing. So I go back to doing story quests or hunter logs quests. I was 29 on Friday I believe and by Monday I was 43 and I played about 4-5 hours a day, nothing too crazy. I also leveled a Mara from 1-15 in about 2 hours on Saturday.
Once you have a level 50, you get the max EXP bonus for all other classes/jobs, plus the 20% helmet for levels 1-10 if you were a CE purchaser or pre-ordered, things go fast. Stack that with Free Company 5% exp bonus and 3% exp bonus from food...
I am not rushing IMO. I want level 50 to get Dragoon armor and mechanical mount, but then I will begin crafting. I just want to maximize my time, so IMO get 1 level 50 is ideal since you get the max exp bonus for all other classes/jobs after that.
Games are different now. In the old days you had a niche market of about 500,000 - 1,000,000 players but them the genre was neutered to chase the dollars from the 10,000,000+ new players that want non Epic games where everyone can do everything, see everything, win everything, without any significant effort, time or icky things like learning and god forbid reading stuff... What you have now is a sad genre of Adventure's DayCare filled with ADHD children placated by games that set the bar so low that it is nearly impossible not be "THE" Hero.
The Epic scale of the old school games (EQ1) has been removed in favor of easy access. casual play, solo focused content, no penalty for death/losing, faceroll easy content, Welfare Epics and nerfed Dungeons which all feeds into the MMO locust that tear through the game in a handful of weeks before jumping ship to "consume" then next challengless MMO.
Any game where the majority of players can reach End Game and be successfully completing Raid content is NOT Epic.
Epic was having to put in 6-12 months to build and End Game character, Having to coordinate 40+ people to have a chance to run Raid content that took months to learn and progress through all, for a couple pieces of End Game quality gear.
Ah Fate farmers. The players that want to ruin this game for themselves as quickly as possible.
"When thinking back to my time leveling my first class....I remember running back and forth across the map in my group trying to beat the other 200 people doing the same thing in the same area"
Well I'm not going as fast as a lot of people but have a 46/22/16/16/10/10/5/5/5/5 character....looks really weird typed out...
From about 30 to 46 most of my XP has come from dungeons. Regardless, of what the players that quit at level 20 will tell you(lol at judging a game by noobie content), the 30+ dungeons start getting more difficult and are much more fun.
I've played played em all EQ through GW2, and the only somewhat fun dungeons I've run in the last couple years were in TSW. Wow's "heroic" 5mans are 1-2 min boss burns. FFXIV's 4mans are like little wow 10man raid bosses. The bosses are large. The fights usually last 3-6 minutes. They have lots of 1-2 shot death attacks. Aoe filling the room. You spend most of your time running around, avoiding death, killing adds, playing the mechanics. The fights can be anywhere from a by the numbers run around and burn the boss to complete chaos.
No they're not hard. If you don't know the mechanics you may wipe until you know what's killing you. When your character can run, jump, attack/heal, and click objects there is only so much you can really do with a fight. If you're an mmo player you've already seen it before.
But I'd rather play through the game as I level rather than race to some "Endgame" that we've learned over and over and over will be just as limited as any release game.
I think this is the final straw for me. I have been considering buying the game and checking it out, but if it's yet another MMO that can be power leveled in a short amount of time, I'm not interested.
This also means, as we have seen many times in the past now, that the game is going to become boring for a lot of players within a month. I expect we may start seeing the first posts with subjects like "Level capped, bored, nothing do to." within a week or so.
A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.
