Sorting your Bank..

hakiredhakired Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 30

So there is no sorting function in this game for your Bank/Retainer. Does anyone know a more efficient way of handling your stored items?

Does anyone have any news if the Devs are going to fix this "issue"? To be honest having an unsortable bank feels like for lack of a better word ..

FUC**NG RIDICULOUS!!!!

Are you kidding? How far into crafting have you gone?

This is what I do. If I need Beastkin Blood. I'm going to FFIVDB and search Beastkin Blood. I'm going to check what it looks like and I;m going to open my retainer inventory and look at the things that could look like BeastKin Blood.

It should not be like this. This is basic stuff.

Some MMORPG's namely WoW do not have a sort function on the bank. and they can do this because the Bank items are all displayed in 1 page.

    Not 14 pages!!!!  1 Ratierner = 7 pages.

It's a pretty rough system right now, especially when you're trying to level several crafting professions and especially coming from GW2's awesome material sorting system (and being able to craft with mats that are currently sitting in your bank).

You can't pull tabs apart.  You can't condense all the tabs into one big tab.  It forces you to keep your inventory divided into a bunch of smaller tabs but provides no way to efficiently sort those tabs by item type.  When the game has hundreds and hundreds of unique items for you to keep track of, this can become extremely cumbersome.

On way more than one occasion, I've accidentally bought extra items I needed for crafting off the market, not realizing I actually already had a few of them in one of my two retainers' 14 tabs because I simply couldn't find them.  And it would take literally several minutes to load up the retainer and manually hover over every single item in every single tab to see if it's the one I'm looking for.

Im hitting 20s on almost all crafting and gathering professions now.

I cut my teeth on SWG crafting. Sorting inventory is a breeze compared to that game. Not saying I wont take some auto sort tools or open all inventory slots option, that would be great. But as it is now, its a lot better than what I played for 8 years. Guess I'm old school or just used to keeping track and organizing stuff myself.

Im with you that inventory management is a pain, but a worthwhile invenotry sort is rare (maybe even non existent) in mmos.  I know there are ones that stack items and condense empty spaces, but dont actually sort.  WoW has a *great* addon for this sort of thing, but this is far from a standard feature.

You can turn on auto sort which is pretty useless, it will put gathered materials in bag 4 and consumables in bag 3 though.

That's a pretty nice tip.  It'll at least make right click depositing some items a little more convenient.  (On that note, this remake still doesn't allow you to single right click an item in your inventory while your bank is open and have it automatically deposit like every other MMO in the world.  You have to right click and then drag down to "entrust to retainer" and click again.  Just a silly little unnecessary thing.)  Unfortunately, for the most part, if you want to sort everything the way you want, you still need to find the tab you want to put the item into by clicking on those tiny little tab buttons, then manually drag and drop every single item.  And you're usually trying to do this with at least 30 or 40 items at a time.  It can get quite tedious and annoying after several minutes of doing this.

I guess one of the best things you can do right now is

Put your Materias in 1 Retainer and put all your craftables in the other

Well, you can't sort by column on anything like vendors or guild rosters.

Can't view all your inventory at once even though I could fit about 50 open bags on my screen.  Something as simple as moving items between "bag tabs" in your inventory is a royal pain.

    No stats on tooltip compare.

    No gear preview.

This game is severely lacking in "quality of life" features that are commonplace in modern MMORPGs.

    On and on it goes.

The longer you play, and the more the new MMORPG smell wears off, the more you notice these little things that are generally quite annoying.

I also don't like how retainers work.  At all.  It's a miserably clunky way to do banking and AH.  Too many dialogs and clicks/escs to get very simple things done.  Just clicking the bell or ending the dialog to "leave" the bell is hitchy and wonky.

Renting a choco is similar.  Lots of extra useless dialog and steps to do something that should be simple, like grab a cheap ride to another location.

The armoire in your inn room is incredibly brutal to use.  As a programmer, I would have to go WAY, WAY, WAAAY out of my way to come up with something this unintuitive and clunky.  It is so very bad.

For most of the stuff like this, there just is no excuse for it.  It's just horrible design.  You can't even blame it on consoles because the GOOD parts of the UIs and presentation in this game make you forget consoles are even in use.  I would imagine some of these UIs suck to deal with on consoles too.  Nobody wants carpal just to do things that have been simple and routine in MMORPGs for 10+ years.

It's overall interesting to me as a developer, because this game has a great deal of polish and shine and it feels very tight.  But at the same time, there are just dozens of little things like this that are utterly brutal and I can't believe how anybody would willingly designs things that are so bad.

Premium MMORPGs do not feature built-in cheating via cash for gold pay 2 win. PLAY to win or don't play.

This is my only real complaint with the game thus far. I made a descion a few nights ago to basically stop lvling most of my crafting classes and just focus on 3 due to iventory/bank/retainer issues.
