Gold spammers in this game are horrible, and SE appears to be doing nothing about it.
All we have for defense is the "blacklist" function, where we have to TYPE IN the name of the spammer. We can't just click on the name, no, we have to type it all in. Names like Asdfghasdf Fghasfdsas. And this is while the chat box is fairly screaming past, with multiple spammers in each city spamming away.
And then, the blacklist is 200 entries, and I've already put in 30 or so, and I'm only lvl 12. What happens when the list exceeds 200? I'll have to stop playing, or just ignore chat completely.
BOOOOO!

Hehe yea, lets just move from aimbots to gold spammers!
I am wondering if the answer to these problems is to play on a console? Can people hack into those games as easily as they seem to on PC's?

I'll have to agree the gold selling spam is totally out of control at the moment.
It's pretty sad and kind of funny at the same time that these seller's of virtual coin actually have real life customer's

Right click their name
hit send tell
highlight their name in the text field of your chat window
ctrl+c
open balcklist window to add new name
ctrl+v
click ok and done
Wanna help SE? Report them, it's in the support menu. And they've already banned over 800 accounts. When your Blacklist window gets to 200, start removing the ones you put in their first. I'm sure they'll have been banned by then.
Yes they are everywhere, I blacklist them left and right. Easiest thing to do is to click on their name like you were going to send them a tell, this way it spells the name out in the chat box and makes spelling easier. Trying to enter a name without doing this is a PitA.
Didn't know about ctrl+c and ctrl+v, awesome.
dudeeee
use a macro with the following line (or type it in chat):
/blist add <r>
Edit: this blocks the last person to Tell you.
This is what I do.
Every time I zone in to a new area I usually get two or three to block and then I'm usually done with them for the play session. It is a pain but quick to resolve on my server at least.
On my server there are several guilds selling content now. You can pay hundreds of thousands of gil to get HM boss kills and what not. The average player has ~200k from doing the main quests (if you grab all coin rewards). So guess how losers pay these losers to get boss kills for them? WTF does anybody need that much gil for anyways (in regards to the scrubs selling content)...there's nothing to buy in this game....they probably sell their gil to RMT for tiny bits of cash.
As with the gil spammers, you have your fellow players to thank for all of this. Between dummies not employing any common sense at all with their accounts and getting "hacked" (not truly hacked since giving away your info is just "being stupid" not "getting hacked") and there being no lack of gutless punks who will pay cash for game currency to cheat their way thru easy games, this is what we get.
Gil spammers exist because their is demand. So the #1 way to deal with them is to cut demand - ban/delete the players who cheat.
Of course RMT has been around forever and the lazy and useless devs/designers of SE have done ZERO to deal with it - no filtering in chat or even the remote basics that most games code in.
Premium MMORPGs do not feature built-in cheating via cash for gold pay 2 win. PLAY to win or don't play.
Gold spamming is ridiculous. Last night all i did was uncheck shout, i thought about another tab but, are you really going to wade through reams of gold spam searching for shouts?
My token is in and applied as well, was using phone but hate having to have my phone with me at all times.
There is no doubt the gold spammers are red hot for this game, they are pulling out all the stops. They are obviously hacking a good share of accounts, and to think at launch spammers didn't even care about the game.
Anyway simply uncheck shout until they do something about this as it does ruin the experience, unfortunately you'll still get the odd tell but not often enough to be complete PITA.
I agree. I have already had to blacklist several spammers, and it pisses me off that I have to type out the whole name. But it comes with every MMO at launch so im being lenient with SE
Those aren't so bad, I hate the ones that are a combination of lower case L's and upper case I's which end up looking like this. IlIlIlllllIIIIIllllllllll
Thanks to the person who posted the copy paste method for dealing with them.

I keep seeing the words hack...this is the fault of people using the same password and log in for every account from facebook and WoW to FFXIV. Then on top of that they don't use the one time password for extra security.
Just like most of the problems in the real world and MMOs it all leads back to people being stupid.
Goldsellers infest every single MMO these days.
Don't blame the sellers, blame the buyers.
Without demand there's no need for supply.
It's ridiculous. Either turn off shouts (and miss potentially useful shouts) or spend 5 minutes every time you change towns blacklist 3-5 people.
How there isn't a timer on shouts is absolutely beyond me.
Waiting for something fresh to arrive on the MMO scene...
+1 thank you
Yes, it's annoying, but it's been a problem in every successful (and some not-so-successful) games I've ever played. I'm hoping S/E gets the tools in line with the magnitude of the problem.
For right now, I just block Shout in all the cities, and blist anyone that sends me spam tells.
Yesterday I took the time to fill out a complete ingame report about 2 mining bots that were operating on my server.
They were teleporting from node to node, appearing out of thin air slightly above the node and then dropping to the ground before starting mining. Both were permanently stealthed, which must have been a half-hearted attempt to be less obvious, because there were no aggro mobs anywhere near the nodes. Both had less than half their equipment slots filled, even though they were around L23 miners.
It was a L10 mining area, so I guess they were farming shards to sell on the AH. Luckily (?) the resource nodes in FFXIV are not contested, otherwise the mining bots would be a serious problem.

nope. your not 100% right here.
Though other MMOs have their gold sellers as well.
Other MMOs have a limit to the Main Chat Channel aka Shout. You cannot spam it and if you do you would get a 15 min mute or more.
Gold sellers in other MMORPGs use Say chat and would rely on people to be in proximity of them for the people to get the message.
Awareness of the reality of the market they are in does not seem to be a strong point for SE. The missed the boat on the AFK timers at launch, should have definitely had strong anti-spam / gold farming measures in place since gil farmers almost killed FFXI until they managed to reign them in.
It's like no one pays attention to "Lessons Learned" over there.

In Phoenix Europe, I only have to blacklist 1-2 people per day if I stay in the same home city. If I visit each homecity it is like 3-6 people per day that I need to blacklist XD.
I do fortunately see some of the characters I blacklist showing up as "deleted" in my list after a while, so they're doing something at least.
Probably will be a problem for a while yet and then they'll get it under control. GW2 was BRUTAL with the spamming first 2 months or so also.
