World of Warcraft's "Siege of Orgrimmar" update recently went live. We managed to catch up to Greg "Ghostcrawler" Street to talk about the recent update and much more. Find out what he had to say before heading to the comments to discuss your impressions.

This week we got the chance to review World of Warcraft’s new patch 5.4 The Siege of Orgrimmar with Greg Street. One of the big  moves that Blizzard has done with this patch is make raids and content more available to less hardcore players using the Flexible Raid system. Greg explains how Warcraft was getting a little too hardcore and what the team did to make more content available to players.

There has never been a time as casual-friendly as WoW currently is. Not even close.

No idea where the article  is getting that from.

Yeah i had got a free week of gameplay in my email (I think all old players qualify for some free time now idk.)

When I logged into Area 52 chat was exploding with flex raids, this is clearly really popular because wow raiding is well, really good.

Vol 'Jin is a badass 4 da Horde!

King Varians son was mad cool (Garrosh murdered the human kings son!) and Varian is gonna be out for blood sooner than latter I think, regardless of what played out in the video.

The Alliance are arrogant racist dicks they will prolly start some shit one way or another but this will only serve to strengthen our Horde because now that we have a leader with the most badass hair ever, we cant loose.

I forgot to mention the Arena changes, I've been waiting for something like this (can group with people from other servers, don't need to form a team anymore) These changes are huge and will effect everyday gameplay more than new content ever could.

Really this is a brilliant patch, I will Prolly sub to try the Flex raids & Arena changes

I'm still struggling to wrap my head around the concept of raiding of any sort being described as "casual".

WoW getting "a little too harcdore..." Haha! That is probably the funniest thing I've heard in awhile. Thanks for the laugh MMORPG.com!

Too bad Flex mode is not in raid finder:( now ppl want 530 ilvl for flex. thouse casual players that do only raid finder and timeless isle farming wont get in flex raid in many week.

Spamming LFG in city chat is outdate, they need chance tis! every raid  and raid mode should be in raid finder! no one want spend 2 hour or more time spamming chat to get in raid.

yes there is bad players in raid finders but if u dont want do raid finder u can just make own raid.

least there is chance for casual to do end game raids tis way.

Then again, not eveyone wants to randomly slap a group together with a queue.

They rather search for people themselves, You can have both you know^^

I think the idea that wow is not hardcore enough is misguided.

There are plenty of guilds fighting for server and EU-NA firsts, and these raids are very difficult when released, and only get easier when the player-base gears up to a higher item level.

The concept of WOW "Not being hardcore enough" is really lacking in the intelligence dept.

A bit of analytical though shows what is actually going on is Blizzard catering to both the casual and hardcore elements of the population, nothing more.

Yes general game play is not difficult but I would point out that no popular MMO's general game-play is challenging is and that WOW was never a niche game.  There are plenty of challenges for those wanting a more hardcore experience from WOW.

I personally like what they have done here, Blizzards strengths lye in constructing systems that are simple to use yet have a high skill-cap.

I will chime in here with a "WoW getting too hardcore", say what now!? Maybe back during the Burning Crusades WoW could say those words.

I do like the fact they are trying to make their content available to a wide range of players. Because I was never a huge raider I did miss some of the story line that tied in with the raid content. Time will tell if this was the right choice for making the content available though. Raiding has always been synonymous with hardcore, so more than a few may not like this.

Yeah the only time i was like "Damn this is hardcore!" Was some of the difficult cataclysm dungeons.  I'm also excited to run the raid content without having to join a guild or pug, much of the good lore is indeed found in raids and I'm looking forward to our new leader  Vol' Gin rocking that hair.

I think what hardcore means to alot of people is a game with little to no casual elements

I think it means  more than an hour of play time a week required to progress.

He was quoting what the article said, not saying that the game was actually to hardcore, unless I am missing something. To answer your comment.. he's getting it from the article that we are here discussing....

How many of you have done heroic raiding in WoW? I am pretty sure the answer would be none of you. So you are just pulling crap out of your ass. For some reason people think that hardcore = no casual elements in your game whatsoever. Proper raiding in WoW has always been a fairly hardcore thing. I don't raid because I don't have the time. 4 hour raiding sessions =/= casual

he's quoting the article that you clearly haven't read!

If someone is talking in general chat in a language you dont understand, chances are they're not talking to you. So chill out and stop bitching about it!

Did he actually use  the phrase "getting too hardcore" for real? Okay, here is how hardcore WoW is: 3 days ago my orc hunter on Stormscale reached the level cap having an item level of 417.  This evening he reached item level 496 and is ready for the Siege of Orgrimmar LFR  just by killing rares and bosses on the Timeless Isle and entering previous LFR raids.

    I too have to comment.

I once enjoyed WoW, During the release and BC expansion. It was moderately challenging, enjoying and required forethought and preparation.

The game has been getting easier and easier and easier.

What kind of silly marketing double speak has Blizzard lowered themselves to. If you are going ot make your game and target 9 years olds, just come out and say it!

Some people missed the part about reading the article before commenting. It was only 1/3 of the words in the first paragraph. You know, something insignificant and easily missed. image

So.....what is being foreshadowed in that vid?  I don't see at all who the next villain could be, or maybe I've been out of the loop too long.  Anyone?
