it is indeed a great game. I just hope they make the content more varied and less linear.
All the different modes work the exact same way:
- start at point A, go to point B and destroy objective, return to A.
- start at point A, go to point B and rescue objective, return to point A.
- start at point A, go to point B and kill boss, return to point A.
- same pattern with every mode.
The only mode that is actually different is the Defence mode (horde mode).
I think that allowing more open areas and less corridors can help break the linearity of the objectives by allowing multiple optional goals in a bigger area where you get credit based on what goal (or goals) you accomplish before leaving the area. Leave the corridors for the indoor missions only.
OP is trying to get his free mods :P
They added survival as a new type. It's more fun than the capture/exterminate missions but still in the same areas. The one mistake this game has never made is listen to people who tell them to make something else. It is what it is, trying to be something else just gets you a game you never set out to make that has no real identity to it.
The devs have always kept the game within the scope of their ability to make.
i dont know if you watch Digital Extremes livestream Q&A videos but a ton of stuff they add is from player suggestions that (like you said) are within the scope of their ability to make, and have improved the game significantly. I think they are capable enough to add more variety in maps and the scale of the maps. The sizes are good, and they are already adding some outdoor areas but those are still outdoor corridors, they could be a little bit more open when you go out. By open i dont mean turn it to an mmo. I mean expande the invisible (and visible) walls to allow more space for some more exploration within the mission which automatically allows for more mechanics they could come up with (like the one they are adding soon with the hook and vertical climbing like Lost Planet)
