a game like star fleet command 3

joojoo1975joojoo1975 Member UncommonPosts: 275

Currently just got into STO last night.  rolled a Klingon War and though I haven't dumped hours into it, it's lookin like it's not gonna be what I was hoping for.

Man do I miss the SFC3 days.  that game(imo) had the stuff to be an Epic MMO.

anybody know of anything out there like Starfleet command 3?

PS:  I own FTL, all the X series, and from time to time Still play Discovery(yea the freelancer online mod)  also if I have the wrong impression of STO, pls offer up ya advice so I can get another perspective.

Thanx for da Replies!

(Yea I Necroed this as I'm back out there on the lookout for any new games that have a feel like the old SFC3 days)

(sadly I cannot play SFC3 on my Win 8 as its just not compatibale)

(mayby something out there is new, I can only hope)

Nope you pretty well nailed it - STO is a mess.

I tried it for 2 days.

Hated so many things about it - never going back.

    well that suxx

checkin out star sonata 2, but I dunno.

one of the best things bout SFC3 was the tactial planning and whatnot.  one of the best things I liked bout STNG(startrek nex gen) was the battles and how the ships were being repaired while phasers and photons were a flyin!  the storylines were ok, but it was the future tek and ship fights that kept me watching.  and Worf, one must never forget bout Worf!

Keep an eye on Star Citizen.  Not Star Trek, but it looks promising.

    yepp

Star Citizen, i'm deffinantly keepin an eye on, though it reminds me more of freespace/wing commander than SFC3

    speaking of STO

Played STO more last night, and I'm now officially done.  the popper was when I was at a research station, in Klingon space.  and had to have a ship fight with a Romulan.  to make matters worse, I was aided by another Romulan ship.

I love those games.  I miss playing the Lyran ships.  Like you I was hoping STO was more along the lines of those games.  What I got was a reason to avoid cryptic and anything that they develop.

Someone needs to remake Klingon Academy. That is perhaps one of the very few Star Trek games I really thought captured the feeling of commanding a ship in the Star Trek universe.

IMO sfc2 was better than 3.

Darkspace is the closest I can think of, not sure what sort of state it's in now though.  http://darkspace.net/

There's also an indie game called ftl and while not really the same thing is along those lines.

Edit: also wanted to say if you didn't like the canon of sto at that level you should be gald you didn't go any further as cryptic pretty much ignores their own canon let alone the shows.

Well looked at Darkspace.net and ot looks like an arena type game(you just spawn ships and build up planets or fight in fleet wars.  on top of that the ships are premade, basically), but then again I could had gotten the wrong impression.

and SFC2 better than 3?  I beg to differ.  but we can agree to disagree.

I always thought SFC3 had the best platform for an mmo.  imagine runnin a transport and delivering goods from planets to starports while dodging pirates.  or join the Academy and be a part of the federation.  Or be a Klingon and Blow S#!T Up!!!!!!!!!!

anyhoo thank you all for the info and replies, I'm still searching and hoping.

Do a google search for the Earth & beyond emulator.  You might like that if you didn't like Sto.

Earth & Beyond is an old school mmo. It has a small but loyal community of players and its totally free to play with no cash shop. And you have to earn everything you get in this game. No hand holding but it has a new player chat and players will help you out if you ask nicely. Mostly older players from when the game came out in 2002.

Space mmos, you could keep an eye out for Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous.

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

Yes we are all eagerly and cautiously optimistically awaiting Star Citizen.  Sounds like this may be the upcoming option.
