Free trial means another gimped experience unless you pay up?

KarteliKarteli Member CommonPosts: 2,646

I was looking at some review for this game and came across Xyson's website.  They have a free trial, but is it just me or is this just another freemium gimped F2P model?

Hear me out.

From the main website:

http://www.xsyon.com/showthread.php/8504-Xsyon-Free-Play-Limits

it says:

Free Play includes the following limits:

Players without paid Citizen Game Account access:
  • Players cannot start new Tribes
  • Players cannot join new Tribe charters
  • Players can join tribes but they do not add to the tribe size
  • Skills are effectively limited to 30
  • Players cannot use gained experience to level up

Players with Citizen Game Account access without a paid Monthly subscription:
  • Skills are effectively limited to 30
  • Players cannot use gained experience to level up
what?  So it's freemium?  OK, so Citizen Game Access = buying the game, why couldn't they just say that.  It's confusing.  As a new customer, only reading that post, I was drawn away.

Beyond that, those restrictions aren't very appealing, especially "Players cannot use gained experience to level up".  So as a F2P, the only way to level up is to buy from a cash shop or what?

There is probably some good explainations for all the stuff I brought up, but not everyone is going to bother reading forums, and new players will read that restrictions page, then LOL, and never return.  I already moved on to a different game, but just bringing this up in case I'm missing out on a good time.

Am I?

No cash shop to level up.

It means you cant spend XP to improve skills, you have to grind them up the slow way, by doing them, or setting up a macro and going to bed.

It is a gimped version of the paid accounts but that is the point.

So much crap, so little quality.

So let me guess, you didnt play the game yet, and no idea what 1/2 of what you are saying really means?

    There is no cash shop.

Free accounts (none paid) cant drop totems. This is a huge thing in game, this is there to give them a reason to buy the game if they like it.

The exp leveling system is there to prevent people from just being a free account and getting massive skills while being free. If you want more skills simply just buy the game. Clearly you like the game enough to play it.

The free accounts are more there to play the game and test it out before buying, not to play forever on.

aome f2p models really suck ass.  everquest 2 is a good example.

a eally good way of doing f2p is aion.  its early days for f2p and the market will sort the good from bad.

my guess is base gameplay f2p with vanity pay for items will win in the end.

Xsyon isnt like other games, allowing F2P where they can do everything is not a good idea. Because what people do have lasting effects on the world. Terraforming, Totems, buildings etc. These things are hard for other players to take down or even fix.

Yeah not a lot of reason to do anything, buildings have no use, higher skill doesnt give you much options, and thing's are very common. I throw away the best weapons in the game while skilling up because they are so common.

There's a large number of bad things about Xsyon, and a few good. One of the most serious issues is the insanely slow development. All focus seem to be on marketing these days, and that is surprising since that will only increase the throughput of people. He really need to fix those things that make people wanna play it first. Now it is on Steam and that might take a turn for the worse. Adding more people, to what can best be described as a half finished product, will only add to the ever larger disapointed community. Steam can be such an unforgiving community...

Xsyon didn't do a good job on Kickstart (8k out of 250k), it is still plagued by problem they worked on since pre-launch and it IS NOT ready for Steam. Perhaps time to change focus from marketing (or hire someone for it) and start develop and patch it.

    Moobara,

The game wasnt finished on launch this is the common problem with almost all small indie developers.   They often bite off WAY more than they can chew/produce.

Lets look at some of the other projects the creator and now lone developer of Xsyon has been part of....

-Roma Victor, while a great game its 5-6 man development team put out product at a pace that was beyond slow.

The other games that are on the scale of Xsyon, like Wurm Online.   Wurm is JUST now getting the multistory buildings, and customizable avatars almost 5 years after release.    Mortal Online is a sandbox that falls way short of the word "sandbox", at least it did on release, now it has evolved enough to be a sandbox game and not just a melee first person hack and slash, like Age of Chivalry.

So much crap, so little quality.

'Free trial means another gimped experience unless you pay up?'

No he wants to provide the best game experience possible completely for free because he is rolling in so much money he just does it for fun.

ALL F2P models are designed for you to spend money

Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.
