The latest WildStar Wednesday takes a look at the Dominion's mothership, Arkship Destiny. The profile lets fans know what they can expect to find aboard Destiny and profiles some of the activities players will take part in while there.
Upon your arrival in planetary orbit, you will be awakened by an appointed Dominion representative. Your personal representative will evaluate your post-cryosleep state and recommend treatments to get your blood pumping prior to your departure to the planet’s surface. As you await embarkation aboard one of the Destiny's luxurious shuttles, refresh yourself at the complementary juice bar and take advantage of our masseuse services*.
*Juice Bar and Masseuse Services not available for all Dominion citizens. Inquire about upgrading your Destiny reservation package today!

I am very excited about the game but I got to say their last couple of reveals were somewhat underwhelming.
It almost feels like what they were doing in SWTOR - every small detail was made into a huge deal that deserved its own huge post and a reveal. I would love to see them talk more about combat, abilities, gear and skill progression, arenas, raids, pvp, gear customization, crafting, lfg tool, etc. Instead they post piece of somewhat 'OK' eye candy.
I think that's just the tutorial zone, given all the hints like "starting out" and "waking up out of cryo" stuff they keep dropping in the article.
Aye, i be smellin' a tutorial / introduction area aswell, then afterwards you get shuttled to the planet surface to spread the gospel.
Simplistic/Pixar-inspired doesn't necessarily mean a low poly count, although it does bring several advantages: a game would run on a much wider range of PCs, and it would age better than the equivalent “realistic” style. Although it’s not to everyone’s taste, there are deliberate reasons why MMOs go down that route.
Not sure where you get the “insane monetisation” from. It’s subscription with the EVE PLEX model. That’s it.
Currently playing: WildStar, Guild Wars 2, EVE Online, Vain Glory.
I love the art style, I think it's perfect for mmos, but you are 100% correct, it is let down by a terrible engine, this shot doesn't even have shadows turned on, which is why the characters seem disconnected from the scene. The images are flat and the texture mapping lacks material variety and definition.
If you compare this to shots from EQN, you can see the issue is the engine, SOE's Forgelight adds good shading, atmosphere and background detail that lets the characters look more 3D and similar to the animated films of today, (even though you may still not like the art style). Wildstar is going for for same esthetic, but you can see the contrast with the game footage and the pre-rendered trailer they released, which exploits the art style far better.
The flat look you can see in the pic may make sense for those cheaper or older mmos going for an animated look but it has dated horribly when you can go for a closer Pixar rendered look as SOE have shown.
I don't think so. Read these lines.
The Destiny is your chance to rub elbows with the Dominion's greatest celebrities while cruising the galaxy in style! Such notables as Artemis Zin and Toric Antevian have already reserved their spots aboard the Destiny. Where else will you find yourself able to mingle with the most glamorous citizens in the Dominion?
Sure, many don't go for the art style, but in this case most of the criticism was directed at the graphics. Realistic has more problems than stylized, we all know that, but here it is not done that well, for example the crude rendering draws attention to the polygon count, which is not that much lower than in EQN, but far more noticeable as the shading isn't as smooth.
This looks more like a lower setting than was supposed to be shown, but I have never seen stills or footage look all that much better, alas.
People really need to look at some videos or research about a game before jumping on the MMO hate bandwagon.

It depends on the region of the world you are in (Also no shadows inside a shadow in the world) and it seems Carbine has been taking screenshots directly from their engine without rendering them in-game which is making them more like paintings and not in-game renders..
The artstyle is fantastic and will not only help people with lower configs but WoW players will feel right at home. It is also a fresh change from current mainstream MMOs, same for EQN.
Did you notice how in even the debut for EQN, it was crazy low FPS? Not to mention if you look closely at the faces, the art style is a bit wretched. I think Wildstar has the right idea visually. (not so sure about the game mechanics...)
Reading that, I come to the exact opposite conclusion. If their aim is to create the feeling of a travel brochure/commercial, then the first underlined part is exactly what would be said. Likewise, the second section (along with the appended pic) shows what looks to be some kind of holo-training area, as you would expect from a tutorial area teaching new players how to move, use their abilities, etc.
It's this line, though, that cinches the fact that it's a tutorial for me, though:
"Experienced citizens who have already completed at least one Service Contract on Nexus can optionally choose to be dropped directly onto the planet’s surface. But why would you want to, given all that Destiny has to offer?"
Instead of spending yet another dozen of pages in a random topic about the cosmetics of an upcoming mmo, could we for once focus on the important stuff ... ? Aka combat, like what GlacianNex said below ?
