Apparently with Lord of the Rings' success, a whole bunch of spin off medieval-like movies and fantasy movies are being made and Conan is in line.

i wouldn't mind seeing another conan movie, but wtf is with everyone just remaking movies anymore? king kong, war of the worlds, amityville horror, bleh, where's the original stuff?

If they think they will make a buck off of it, they will remake it.

Plus in recent years it has been said by many tongues the movie business that they have run out of ideas and are relying on remakes for the big bucks.  That is a lame excuse if you ask me for crappy movies.

I think you miss the point of the rateing. X used to also be the severly heavy gore flicks. Didnt require sex or nudity. Just so graphic of violence they didnt want any child to see it. XXX well we know what that rateing is for.

Cool on the remake i guess, but conan had many many stories wrote about him rather see them start at book one and do them all 8).

The gore was implied of course when we were talking about that rating for god's sake, lol.  Yes, you got me there, I thought you were talking about sex only.  But if the point you were trying to make was exclusively about gore, then it was you who missed the point my son.  Conan, as you must know, is all about the XXX.  If he was a real person he had every type of STD in existence.

I hope Age of Conan makes me feel I'm in a dark age of humanity and let me see it in game.

I just want to point out that the "Dark Age" has nothing to do with the fact that it is a dark world or anything like that. The Dark Age is just a referance to the middle ages.

I think this is great news.....and hopefully the game will maintain an "older" population. Everytime I look at the screenshots I think of Frank Frazetta's DeathDealer books and the world that it depicts...seems very similar and I look forward to adventuring in this dark brutal world.

i really dont see a bearing on this post. Its really up to the community to outcast immature players from the get go. Only then will they act right, or leave the game.

In my experience, those who are immature and decide to ruin the games do too much damage. Whether it be with trains or PKing or Ninja-looting or whatever, it becomes hard to just ignore them and hope they go away. A level 1 can still train high levels and nija loot what not.

Q: When in the timeline of the Conan Universe is the game set?

A: The setting is chronologically directly after the Robert E. Howard
book “The Hour of the Dragon”, in the era when Conan was king of
Aquilonia. This novel is heralded by many as one of Howard’s strongest,
and gives us a great entry point into Howard’s world.

Q: Will I be able to ‘be’ Conan?

A: No, Conan will not be a playable character, rather you will be
playing in King Conan’s world. You can in some way see the journey
through the game as many alternate ways of sampling Conan’s history, and
getting to know him. This will gradually bring you closer and closer to
the grand King of Aquilonia, to his royal court and who knows, maybe
even joining him at this top table!

Q: How true to the original writings of Howard are you intending to be?

A: The world that Howard created was a dark and gritty place and we
certainly aim to very true to that feeling and atmosphere. Obviously
Howard wrote the original works in the 1930’s, a long time before world
war two, Martin Luther King or the 60’s sexual revolution, and some of
his themes and characters are very much creations of their time that do
occasionally jar our modern sensibilities, so Age of Conan will not be
done in a tasteless, exploitative manner. Rest assured however that the
world of Conan will never, ever, be politically correct and we hope that
the game will capture all the elements of Howard’s creation that make it
    what it is!

Q: What rating do you expect the game to have?

A: Although the game is not yet rated we are certainly expecting for the
game to be rated as ‘Mature’

For those who have not yet seen this.

Looking forward to this game also.

There's two things I find funny about this thread.

The first is that an M rating will mean fewer young players. I'm  not sure if any of you were ever 14 but if there's the possibility of nudity or gruesome bloodshed any self respecting 14 year old will find a way. The M rating will ensure a horde of youngsters to the game.

The second is that young players are the cause of the grief in MMO's. The average age of MMO gamers is going up and is already over 25 years. The problem in MMO's is due to gamers and not kids. In every voice chat I've ever been in, which is a lot, it's the 25 year old know it all that's talking the trash and cussing, and they're the ones that play late and laugh when they can ruin someone's day.

That being said, the game looks great I can't wait to test it out and see if it lives up to expectations. I really like that they have 3-D, thieves climb buildings, PvP, fortresses and sieges.

I can assure you, in my guild it was the 15 year old cussing. He admitted his age, but you are right it is the gamers fault. The guild wouldn't boot him due to him playing a vital character to raiding. If raiding wasn't so vital, we could have small guilds with our friends in them. But this raiding crap has ruined many games.

I expect Conan will be soloing, or very small groups. A hard game, with small groups maximum would get rid of a lot of the brats and their school friends. The "M" rating will help only a little.

From my understanding, is that there are going to be large battles consisting of both PC's and the NPC's who are controlled by the PC's. It's true though, the AoC will have the most gore probably then any other mmorpg to date which gives it the "M" rating. Also the content is supposed to be a bit more mature too.

Seriously can't wait till this is out. ::::01::

    Barbaric and M-rated.

    Hell yes, at last!

    image

    Bring it!

(Ahem, it's not free btw, you just play the first 20 character levels on your comp without monthly charge.  Playing the game post-20 requires the monthly fee.)

(Interesting too -- apparently the game must be so brutal that level 1-19 players would get eaten alive!)

I see the 'M' rating as more of a problem then a benifit.  The 'M' rating is the rating that parents would still buy for their children and politicians will still try to screw over the producers of the game.  If this game was rated 'A' on the other hand, then parents would never buy this game for their kids and politicians would be forced to stay away because retailers would not be allowed to sell this game to minors.

Also if a parent buys an 'A' rated game for their child it is neglect and a form of child abuse if you think about it (And possblly legally as well).  That would be like your father or mother buying you a porno when you are a minor.

So if they want to do the gore, do 'A'.  I mean How many 17 year olds have heard of Conan anyways?  Their all into American Idol and some such comecialized Bull Crap that weakens the Developed World.

I personaly think the single player up to lvl 20 element will stop alot of the kids as they will never make it up to lvl 20 as they will just quit when they actually have to do somthing for themselves. thats just IMO, While yes I think they will get their dirtly greesy little paws on the game Im hoping they will get bored and quit when they actually have to figure out how to kill a rabbit

The rating isn't going to keep the kids out.  The complexity will.  Just look at SWG.  It was an adults game for 2 years and got horrid reviews from all the typical kiddie (13-17) gamers out there.  Once they dumbed the game down, the average player age dropped and the "fun" rating from all those kids went through the roof.

I really hope funcom sticks to their guns despite the impending bad reviews from the peons who can't figure the game out.

hmm, well i've heard rumors about new systems that will try to keep people under 18 to play the new games
coming this year. With rating M as Conan gets. I've also heard from a friend of a worker over at funcom that this game is suppose to be for "adult gamers".

    Can't wait ::::28::

I think its comical that people seem to think that kids are the cause of all griefing and  immature behavior... Some of the most immature people running around are college students.. yet there of age... There are also tons of immature grown ups (over 21) that I constantly run into day in and day out in MMORPG's that know so little about the game they play.

Hopefully AoC has a complex learning curve like AO did/does to weed out the undesirables. I also hope that it has a community comparable to the Pre Shadowlands AO.

    The first mature game? No.

In Sociolotron, you absolutely must be 21 to play. I cannot provide a link to it; I would be immediately banned.

Age of Conan will be gory, but just like any other game. More games will carry the mature label as time passes in an attempt to draw a wider, more affluent (adult) subscriber base.

    Games:
WAR, LotRO, AO, GW, EQ, EQ2, AC, AC2, Vanguard, CoH, EVE, HZs, SO, MxO, SWG, DAoC, WoW, WWIIOL

"How many 17 year olds have heard of conan anyways?" You can count me as one.  Favorite movie in fact. Watched it back in the early 90's parents didn't know. Arnold was my role model for a while,  Weird huh?

When it comes to the books, havn't read them yet.  Anyways most of us 17 year olds will be old enough to play it when it comes out.

Oh and really hoping the game turns out well! 10 on hype from me!!image
