LOL some of you...bitter much? Never played UO , but heard good things about it. It was a game about freedom, playing as you saw fit. If he can create that kind of environment here more power to him! The fact I can actually have a simulated conversation with NPC's to acquire quests would be entirely immersive.
Housing, its OK as long as it serves a purpose, like storage, place to display trophy's, and crafting. For example it would be amazing to be able to gather books from all over the world to fill a library. Even better if I could write and donate some of the book content myself!.
Take your cash shop and shove it! I don't mind purchasing new DLC that expands the world. Yes they need to make money. Sorry people money makes the world go round. Just not that model, it sucks and is ruining the true MMORPG experience!
Its too early for commenting on the rest of the game. It could be dead one year from now, or thriving with possibilities. WTH knows, but that is not bad after only 6 months.

Everyone should stop a second and think how Garriott has really let them down over the years and realize that he is a good hearted game developer that has had some bad luck with publishers. He doesn't really deserve all the grief he gets as he has offered many good ideas that many people have enjoyed over the years.

They were throwing millions of dollars at him.

Not exactly. They are supporting the "idea" of a game. Because they haven't actually played it, or even seen a true gameplay video, to justify throwing their money at a guy like Lord British, who's know for being a bit flaky.

That legal shitstorm was about Stock! Garriott wanted more Money for the Stock he had to sell the moment he was fired, as he was broke after his little Space flight. He even had to sell his mansion to get into the Space. lol.
And as often the case in the US, Foreign Companies (this case NCSoft being Korean) always pull on the short end.
Garriott was fired before his staff, as most of his staff were allowed to continue to work on the game for more than a year longer!
It was actually because of this lawsuit from Garriott against NCSoft, that NCSoft got fed up With him, the game and the entire studio. And so the game got closed down and People fired!
housing is B2W from the cash-shop for the online game mode only? I mean I hope in the solo game one will be able to buy whatever he pleases with ingame currency and not through the cash-shop.
He could have explained more about how housing is available. Because he mostly mentioned backers getting this and that and others can purchase it thru the cashshop.
I don't really care about housing except as something extra. Is it viable to help the prisoner kill the guards instead of helping the guards? Is there any negative reprecusions for killing a chicken in town? What if you want to be as unvirtuous as possible as a character choice? Is there rewards for that or would everything want you dead and you gimped yourself.
I don't care about housing and hope it's not needed. Looking forward to see how the combat shapes up. Would like to know if it's possible to live as neutrally as possible without being good or bad.

Once he makes his millions and gets back into space, I hope he stays there. Good riddance all I thought was, "What is this 1999?" watching this video. Horrible graphics, horrible animations, horrible combat... I know it's just 6 months of work but wow, there is nothing that would make me even remotely interested in wanting to try this game.
I feel so bad for people that threw money at a game that isn't even close to being done.

Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!
Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!
Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!
