The biggest letdown mmorpg of all time?

whats the game that u heard about like a year or something before it came out that sounded like the best thing ever, and u couldnt wait till it came out? but when u buy it,take it home, and pay for an account, and stick the game in and play it,u just cannot get into it..or it just horribly is disastorous?u know what i mean??

i would say the biggest let down to me was Final Fantasy XI and everquest 2

final fantasy was well final fantasy..i thought it would be soo great..but i couldnt get into it..

everquest 2..its a great game i think, but after playin eq for 4 years, i was looking to a sttep up of eq..it just how so much to live up too...i tryed playing..even tryed loving it..just couldnt, wasnt as fun as i thought it would be..it was just too much not eq...i know thats probably what they were trying but that wasnt what i was looking for i guess.

not very many games really live up to the hype, but they are still great for what they are..and these two games are great, just not for me..what is ur biggest letdown game of all time??thoughts?

That was your first mistake...the developers said this would not be the original evercrak.

I ask you to give it another try, they got new devs and noww the game is incredible, it sucks that SOE has a bad rep.

My biggest let down i have to say was WoW.  From the things I heard it was supposed to be great, and it just didn't do anything for me.

After 15 levels it just felt hollow, im sorry it feels like more of a mindless grind than eq2.

And I didn't feel like i acomplished anything, beating a named in a small dungen just didnt seem as rewarding.

    Thats my thought

The new EQ2, better than ever befor !

    Settlers of Ganareth.

It's good, but nothing like AD said it would be.

For me it was Horizons. Long before that game was released it was totally different then the pile of crap that it turned out to be. I wish I saved all the information I had printed out that had all the old information about what the game was suposed to be. There was suposed to be pvp and more player races but I read about a lot of internal conflicts with the company and the guy who started the whole project got his game taken out from under him.

For me it was SWG. I was in a craze over that game and when it came out I was so bored. For a while I just coasted playing the game and even defending it on the boards. Painful to admit I was wrong.

I'm not like most people in blaming SoE though. I blame Lucas entertainment. They had some serious constraints on SoE in creativity and implementation.

    SWG.

To this day it amazes me how SOE could fail.  I mean, it's Star Wars, the universe that is basically mmorpg-ready. SWG should rule the market instead of dying a slow, painful death after three years of near-beta existence.

And I blame SOE mostly - it's their engine, it's their devs, it's their inability to fix anything, it's their reps. LA might be responsible for what has been happening lately, but it's SOE that designed the crappy foundations of the game.

Oh yeah I forgot SWG existed. I guess thats a bad sign. I remember before SWG was out thinking how cool a Star Wars mmorpg would be and still see posts to this day on boards titled "Wouldnt it be cool to have a Star Wars MMORPG!".

    Eve

I was a member of the forums for almost a year before it came out. I was part of a big corp did beta for a few months and was so into it. After 3 months I was so bored I couldn't even make myself log in anymore. I tried going back a year later and only lasted 3 days.

SWG was the biggest let down for me. I played 2 months before they released NGE (talk about bad luck) and was having a lot of fun. I wasn't a "vet" and I didn't have any high CL characters so I didn't have any issues with the "idea" of the NGE, however, when it came out all I can say is "Ugh". Buggy, laggy crap...I spent an entire day running around in a sports bra, combat pants, and no shoes because I couldn't use any of my armor and I couldn't open my bank saftey deposit box to get something to wear because it was bugged ::::25::

Everquest 2 -  SOE still hasn't decided what kind of game they want, it's in an eternal fluctuating state of beta.

I'd have to say Dragon Empires (if anybody else remembers that game)... was sooo stoked about playing it.

    Then Horizons.

    Finally UOX.

They all kinda let me down... only 1 of those made it to release.

I have to agree on Dragon Empires. I cant say it was a let down as I never got to play it. But a sad day it was when it was booted. image

I'm going to go with games that were released and say AC2 followed closely by EQ2. EQ2 is nowhere near the fun that EQ was. Obviously, AC2 was just a pure stinker.

SWG has to be the greatest let-down in MMO history.

You can blame the players all you want for demanding change, however SOE/LA couldn't create a stable product if they tried. That game had more broken mechanics and general bugs than any other game or program I've played/used to-date. Regression testing anyone?

Mercifully, it looks like 'ole yeller' is about to be taken out back.

SWG was a big let down for me because it had so much potential and it felt like the devs were not seeing it the same way as the players. All business no play. BUT i also would have to say that Shadowbane was a bigger let down for me because they spent months advertising that it would be the EQ killer mmorpg. After playing it for several months it just couldnt bring myself to log on anymore.

Yep the biggest let down for me has to be WoW since it wasnt as fun as ppl made it out to be. Its just so @#$@ BORING? I found nothing good about it except for the fact that i could run around and meet new ppl. The landscape is good but the overall gameplay lacked beyond belief.

Dragon Empires. Sooo hyped about this game, was highly annoying when it got canned.

WoW. Just felt 'wrong'. Boring, no depth.

yea i was hyped about dragon empires also and was suprised when I heard they were stopping the production on it. Its like when Fox canceled firefly, after the first season, because they forgot to advertise it.
