Early access to EQNL - 28/2/2014

evilastroevilastro Member Posts: 4,270

Looks like we wont be seeing EQNL, let alone EQN this side of 2014.  So much for playing the game, and not a beta this year.

Also the founders packs are incredibly poor value for a F2P title, the only redeeming value is the early access. At least Dragon's Prophet offered a decent stash of Station Cash to support early adopters.

seems like SOE is targetting March 2014 for closed beta

Don't like it,i have seen trends over the years, from instances to pvp to raiding to end game but i never saw all this founder pack and asking for free handouts and now from a trillion dollar enterprise that is SOE.

This is what 2013-2014 will be known for over the years, the days of developers asking for the gamer's to pay for developing their games.

You know what is coming NEXT [pardon the pun]Blizzard is going to join this fray and then others. It almost turns my stomach, instead of new gaming ideas to entice players, they are stooping so low as to use the word "YOU" YOUR game,YOU are the person that  makes a difference. This is actually an aged old scheme ,even Chrysler did it but instead of free labor by it's employees,it actually offered shares to employees. That is what i said the first time i saw a developer asking or these free handouts,if you want the gamer's to invest in your game, give them shares, they DESERVE it,otherwise it is a sneaky way of stealing money from naive people.

I had to pay $10.00 for the Fileplanet / Blizzard promotion to get into WOW open beta

Blizzard was doing this a decade ago

Aren't blizzard already doing it with the new expansion? They have came out and said there won't be a 5.5 patch as they are focusing all their resources on the expansion. Seeing how it probably won't be out for at least another 8-10 months, it's safe to say gamers subscription fees are funding the development of it.

I see there will be a character wipe and inventory wipe after closed beta (current start date March 31st 2014). Info says founders will get two days "early access" for open beta to claim names and good plots of land.

I am disappointed they are not even close to making a launch in "Winter this year", but ah well I ponied up the money to get into alpha anyway, and hopefully the game will live up to the expectations.

Last part, people who should be playing beta are those who wanna help the games development and wanna see the game do well so they also wont mind paying some $$$ to help the process along since they wanna play this game, People who wanna F2P the game are those who just wanna play somthing for nothing so the ywont realy care to much about helping the game along in development so dont need axcess to an incomplete game thats in beta cause they get impressions of an incomplete game and not play it when its finish.

With this new EQNL release date timeframe I'm growing very concerned about EQN's timeline.  It was amazing to hear people saying they thought EQN was going to be released in 2013, back during the reveal.  I'm starting to wonder if EQN will even be released next year.

Jean-Luc makes a good point. At first I was like "you want me to pay for alpha?!" But I can see the advantage of weeding out the riffraff. I've been in too many betas where it's a WOW comparison bitch fest.

Wow, and I thought the pre order packs for Neverwinter were steep.

99.99 bucks just to be able to get into the game earlier then anyone else?

A set of unique clothing/vault doesn't seem nearly worth it to me.

I mean if these packs were like 19.99, 29.99, then 39.99 they'd sell a LOT more then these super expensive packs.

I mean they want MORE then the price of a FULL fledged game to get into a free to play game early?

Did no one take economics at SOE? Sure some people WILL buy the 99.99 packs to get into game early, but they would have moved a lot more money by having the prices be you know...reasonable for most people.

Except many of the best testers are not going to pay to do WORK.

Actual beta testing (to find bugs/issues and take the time to report them) are hard work and for people that actually do that they will in no way shell out 100 bucks in order to do said work.

GEtting into beta they will do it, because they want to help the game, but paying fo rit?

The people that pay for alpha are customers and they will expect certain things, polish, etc and I have seen first han dpeople buy beta's and then complain/whine about features not working and thing smissing.

IT's sad that in the mmo indiustry beta's have became "demos" and a way to grab money from people rather then to actually help the game.

People have selective memories or something, back in the days of UO's beta, you had to buy a "beta CD" to get in. This is nothing new at all.

So you didn't see the $59.99 and the $19.99 package aswell? Take another look and you will see that there isn't just one package.

On the flip-side to your argument about paying to enter a beta, don't you believe that those that will pay have a vested interest in the game, that these are ppl that are already interested in the franchise, rather than ppl that want to jump into something new and shiny after growing tired of thier current MMO.

I don't like paying for beta access, but it seems to be the accepted norm these days for bigger titles.

I'm a little confused. Does this founder's pack only give beta access to EQNL, or will it eventually include EQN as well?

    Kickstarter and the like.

Great for indie companies and start ups.

Taking the piss when used by a multinational mega corporation like Sony.

What they should be doing for beta testing is drawing lots from subscribers to current soe mmos.

I really doubts that Landmark is the type of game that the current SOE mmos players are interested in. It got 0 content beside a landmass.  No quests, no buildings, nothing. It's an empty world where players will create everything over time, even mobs and encounters.

People who will buy alpha/beta access for a F2P games are people who are interested in this type of game enough to finance it and participate early. No point in trying to put gamers interested in another genre to test your game, they will just complains about the lack of content.

You have to consider their target audience for this...  the "whales" who spend heaps of money and pay for everyone else to have the game F2P. They're the ones who purchase all the bells and whistles, and they're getting excellent value for $100.

We need to be prepared for a lot of paying in EQNL and EQN. Remember, SOE said people could profit from selling their designs and they will profit by collecting a tax on that. This is really cool, stop trying to spin it as some fiendish corporate scheme.

It's also quite possible that all the objects in the packs can be crafted: Void Vault description mention not having to craft one yourself, the founder pick description says it's an upgraded pick for example.

So the ring and bracelet might be crafteable items as well. So, yeah, pay to build your own house faster...

the 99$ bracelet gives you a higher crit chance.

fwiw I already bought the 99$ one, was just pointing it out, if it was Blizzard it would be an outrage.

I am already going to be a better crafter than the people who buy 19$ one
