One of my all time favorite games is Voyage Century Online. I'm after something that allows you to do the same thing essentially, becoming a merchant and trading to gain profits in order to gain levels.
But something more specific im after would be the ability to go hunting, get the pelts, and protect a caravan on the way between cities.
Land or sea, either way im happy.
MMO OR offline id be happy!

Thanks for the reply.
I hated that game with a fiery passion. I tried so hard to get into it but i just couldnt push my way past the crap.
Not saying its a bad game, just not my cup of gin and tonic.
Never played Voyage Century, but I think I have a general idea of what you want. Not a lot of games have the whole gather/craft/trade thing done well. Anyways a few that I'd suggest are
Patrician
Port Royale
Haven and Hearth (My personal favorite)
Skyrim (If you mod the hell out of it)
Eve
The X Series
Unreal World
I think your best bet would be Eve though, you can have a whole lot of fun as a merchant with or without a corp. And believe it or not, Skyrim is amazing for a mercantile game if you tweak it enough.
Yes I have a dream And its not some MLK dream for equality. I wanna own a decommissioned lighthouse And I wanna live at the top And nobody knows I live there. And theres a button that I can press, and launch that lighthouse into space.
You are a freaking legend. if you know of the mods to get skyrim to do the things id like. i would love you forever.

I think that's about all you'd really need. A lot of these mods are for a survival type immersion, so that you'll have to eat and drink, avoid enemies often, and basically just making it difficult to get between towns to trade. Just make sure you put the difficulty up to Master or Legendary, it adds a much greater sense of threat from everything. Have fun

There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein
