This game is in alpha, its free to download and play.
Has all the sandbox elements and most of them are working in the alpha stages. This game is further along in alpha than most release games in the indi sandbox genre.
If you like Sci Fi, and sandbox, you don't want to miss out on getting in early on this one.

Alpha 0.55m will be out soon, and I believe it will have multiplayer to it. After that 0.60 and on will be open only to backers until either OB or Release.
If you play Adventure mode, save often.
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

i pitched in on it's KS, the game could really shape up to be something. There are quite a few bugs running around in the alpha, in fact on my 3 go throughs i never made it very far as the quest givers bugged out.
Other than that, my complaints have been addressed so far, such as the UI, that really needs some work, and from the looks of it, that'll be changing up before release. I didnt get to play very much with the builder, but from what i saw i liked. We'll see!

A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.
The 0.53 alpha is single player yes, HOWEVER, multiplayer is coming out in the next few patches.
The game just got funded with Kickstarter and is now doing an Extended Paypal Fund for added features... best $25 I have spent in a long time.
So yes, right now it is single player, but soon to be multiplayer as mentioned already in the thread!!

EDIT:
Just spent the last few hours playing with the creator tool... its really easy once you do the tutorial for it.
You can create weapons, vehicles, and other things are coming to the tool very soon... then you import them into the game.

It's not confirmed, however, based on the looks. Pathea may run a server itself occassionally.
However, I can say with 80% certainty it will be server based, like Minecraft or Terraria. You can also use LAN to play with friends. These Servers would depend on their hosts. Odds are, they are likely to be static due to the infinant land generation finally completed ((Like Minecraft had.))
This is the best answer I can find right now... they are saying MP will be available in a few days, they are working on a client killer bug right now that causes things to fall through when saved in MP mode.

It's nothing short of incredible.
And considering we are playing an Alpha build, PE can only get better.
Just spent the last while reading the kick starter from top to bottom.
If you have questions about the game, chances are the kick starter page will answer it. I would highly recommend reading it even if you know the game.

Divergence is a MMORPG...
Planet Explorers is currently a single player sandbox game.. that will have multiplayer options.
Basically small servers for co-op play in sandbox mode and also a turret defense mode..
This willl not be an MMO and it will not support as many players as minecraft does.
Anyway its an awesome game and well worth checking out and if you like it i think you can still back it via paypal.
