Heh, in saying that I just realised that I will very much be playing TES:O for the story too, but that's only because I'm a massive lore enthusiast.
Oof...sorry to hear that. Prepare for disappointment.
And why's that? Plotholes? Yes. But it's the universe mate. Do tell of what horrors awaits me. They still have the original devs helping them with the lore and what not. Sadly not with the game design. Please enlighten me with your lore related wisdom, oh great Doomsayer!
To make it clear, what I'm trying to say is: Come back when you've played the game.
You are months too late and the only thing protecting this game is the NDA. But as every major TES fan site has pointed out, if the very premise of the game is based off of breaking the lore, there is no end to what else is being broken.
1. There were not three alliances and one them that did exist never lasted long enough to do anything.
2. The Empire was attacked only ONCE from the time of assassination of the last protector of the Empire until the time of Syptim and that attack was stopped at Marrowind, never reaching the Empires lands.
3. Syptim is the one that attacks the Empire and unifies the lands.
This game is based on attacking the empire, taking it over and voting a player to become the new emperor, all hail Legolaazzz the 1st. Also, the developers themselves stated that they chose this time period because it was covered the least and gave them the most room to bend it to their base game design...so, come back when you have played the game because clearly you haven't been beta testing it.

It's hardly nitpicking. The TES games are immersive and with accessible lore. It's simply not possible to play any TES game without picking up atleast some lore. I just happen to find the story more interesting than new followers of the series.
However, I can't stand people whom generalize people like such. Well, I assume that you have nothing better to do than to complain about how people like stuff. Man, you have your life cut out for you, just go to the next Lord of the Rings film and line all the people up and tell them how stupid their interest in Tolkien's work is. While you're at it you might as well neglect to question why you're doing it. Cheers!
I hope that within the first couple hours of play, you don't spend 90% of your time finding hidden items rather than smacking enemies. And on that note, I hope you don't have to "Go kill 10 sheep", and "Find 3 hidden ancient keys to unlock a door to kill the 10 sheep."
I hope that the combat is responsive and fun, not "jousting" style like DarkFall where every runs around like a chicken with their head cut off.
I hope they don't try to make it look/feel like Skyrim but fall short of it. (except the combat, I wasn't a huge fan of Skyrim combat, felt bland and boring.)
I hope that the armor looks like it is actually ON the character, not a part of the character's skin.
I hope it has meaningful PvP, with decent rewards and incentives. I haven't read much about it, but things to fight over would be nice. Not just a battleground with "hold the item and score points."...heck even a stright up deathmatch would be wonderful, but for some reason most MMOs don't want to include battlegrounds with the only incentive being to slay the enemy team. Who REALLY wants to carry around some idol and dodge enemies to rack up points?
I hope that they don't forget to include social things, such as mini-games, card games, side games. Something fun to do with friends besides run the same dungeon 10x in a row for a piece of gear.
I hope that the racial "epic" armor doesn't look terrible on Argonians, because that's what I want to play.
You get to smack enemies in the beginning. You have the option to search for things if you want. I wasn't feeling combat too much, there is no 'punch' to the connection (but that can easily be fixed).
Its not Skyrim but will remind you of it. I like the look of the game. Dont know enough about the armor, or PVP to comment.
So far it looks good but doesn't seem to be my cup of tea. I'll still play it for 30 days on launch to see how I feel then.

As for the timeline being empty, it was NOT completely empty, it was partly chronicled in Marrowind as part of the backstory to explain why the aldmeri hated the empire, how there was an aldmeri dominion and how their invasion was stopped at Marrowind.
You really know little about TES...guess maybe this IS the game for you afterall.
With in depth information on who Chorak was, his assassination, the year and how it remained until SEPTIM took over...still showing that TESO is breaking form Lore by allowing the Empire to be attacked, taken over and crowning a new emperor!

from the beta testers comments here, it really does sound like it will be another SWTOR, huge launch, very rapid tank because the core gameplay is just not that great. I think SWTOR is a great example of what not to do. $100 million full voice acting, massive production and it still dropped off so fast which suggests that you can't just do good graphics and full voice acting at the expense of decent gameplay.

I'm hoping their vision for the game is more than "Here's x hours of gameplay. After that, join the exciting PVP endgame!"

That would be impossible because WoW was mostly built off of EQ1 and DaoC...lol, seriously. There was just suddenly "WoW" it took almost everything from other games before it. Also, saying a new game is just like a 13 year old one, isn't exactly a ringing endorsement in a genre that has been stuck in a rut for as many years especially one supposedly based off an IP that is famous for its RECENT GAMES!
actually he can, in a way.
DAOC had some of the best ever small group pvp ever, as well as some of the best large zerg wars.
just because something is old doesn't mean its crap :
tell me a game where you could pk a guy, cut him up, debone him and put his skull on the roof of your tower as a warning to others?
where did the orgins of 8man come from?
i could go on and on, but it would be redundant, we are talking about the elder scrolls, and the massive IP involved with.
if they can pull it off, putting daoc style three way combat, with the allure of tamrial, hell ill be all for it, and if they cant quite, im sure that everyone who ever played morrowwind to skyrim will at least enjoy certain aspecs of the game.
Add in the console fanbase and youll have base big enough to get some sort of longevity/

Actually even at its peak DAOC was a third tier mmo, Galaxies had more subs.
And not everyone liked the Zergfest then as is the case now. If it were as well made as DAOC it would be a little better, but from all accounts so far its not even as good as Neverwinter or GW2. Comparing this game to DAOC out of nostalgia is no more useful than talking about UO on Darkfall forums.

true, DAOC was not a top running mmorpg, but i was saying the pvp was quite fun.
and Neverwinter, whelp, it has a decided flare as did GW2, and some like it , some dont, and its ok what anyone likes anyways.
I am not being nostalgic, there are alot of good bits and idea from games that work, look at wow, it ripped off every good idea out there and look how it turned out
kinda like wow is the apple of the gaming world, eh, heh
It's funny how people like to define their taste mostly over what they dislike. ^^
So I try the opposite: I hope ESO will take the features from Oblivion and Skyrim that made these games such a huge success and I also hope they sell the game and take a sub.

So I try the opposite: I hope ESO will take the features from Oblivion and Skyrim that made these games such a huge success and I also hope they sell the game and take a sub.
the things that make both of those games so good isnt the game itself its the mods that creative players come up with. For example I find skyrim completely dull and boring without adding in realism mods like hypothermia deadly combat realistic needs and diseases and Skyui because skyrims interface is floaty and just sucks. Same with oblivion... ESO will never be able to achieve what makes those games great because they are designed for the single player experience and not having to cater to multiplayer. I can say though haters saying this is a wow clone are as wrong as they can get on this forum and just blowing smoke out their asses and havent touched a beta. This game is FAR and i mean FAR from being a wow clone. Id compare it much closer to neverwinter if I had to classify it without the terrible cash shop but anyone viewing a video of actual game play and not just running their normal traps here would easily see. Also graphics being dated others have said , not true its a beautiful game and plays smoothly. I am a sandbox player mostly nowadays and I do not think it will be something I play long but so many here putting out just utter nonsense is hilarious and should be taken completely with a grain of salt.
The OP and many TES fans will be disappointed, that's basically the general summary. Seriously its nothing new, which is fine, you don't have to be bringing new cards to the table...but at least have equal or better cards than what everyone else has.
Like early posts have said, combat is poor, unresponsive, and just spammy. Yes, even if you hate Neverwinter Online, at least their combat was responsive and yes it was spammy too but at least you could evade attacks more fluidly if you put the time into mastering evasion combat, TESO is hardly close to that. Most responsive "action combat" I've played so far still has to go to TERA though, even though I won't touch that game for the life of me after my 4 months on it from launch.
At the end of the day I feel Zenimax relied too much on the license of TES and the success of Skyrim, copying its map/compass, its ui, etc to try to feed off on its fans quickly instead of spending more time to actually develop the game into its own creature. I'm an Elder Scrolls fan, so what, I'm not going to pay or sub for a TESO game if it's just going to be a poorly made "typical" new mmo with "ELDER SCROLLS" slapped on it. Then again most of the people who will buy and support this game aren't me, so have fun there guys.
I'm on the wagon with the people calling this a SWTOR launch. It'll show super solid sales for a month or 2 and will crash and burn in or under a year if they're on the same track they're currently on...which honestly its a bit late for them to change much before launch. They've got to meet deadlines after all right?
I was bothered by ESO when it was unveiled and still am. It all started with players saying they wanted an Elder scrolls MMO, right? But did they really mean a morph of all MMORPGs they know and the latest elder scroll games? or did they really want to play the same Elder Scroll games but with their friends? Or is it players not knowing what they want again?
I hope that in TESO you can explore caves and underground ruins without been forced to take a quest. Like in TES games, you don't have to follow the main story line, just be an adventurer and explore the world. I hope the doors of those caves and special point of interests are not blocked because you don't have a quest associated with it. For me exploring is not just running around from point of interest to point of interest. If I see a cave entrance, I want to see what's inside. I don't care if there is a big boss at the end of the cave or just a tiny bag of coins.
Guys, the game is under NDA. We know it can be frustrating, but mentioning that you're in beta/you played/your opinions, etc are still not allowed just yet. And yes, things like 'I can't say much.....but the sky is green' still count. Can't just dance around it.

If you plan to play this for lore, you are going to have a bad time.
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

actually he can, in a way.

So I try the opposite: I hope ESO will take the features from Oblivion and Skyrim that made these games such a huge success and I also hope they sell the game and take a sub.
the things that make both of those games so good isnt the game itself its the mods that creative players come up with.
You reap what you sow.
I ask for:
- Fun and enjoyment
- Regular content patches.
Is that too much to ask in this day and age? The new FF MMO was great.. for 3 weeks. Then both of those requested points disappeared.
