[Review] Yitien: Too Interested in Your Money

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

R2Games' Yitien is a browser-based fighting game that is based on Chinese lore. We take a look at this easy-to-pick-up title and see how it fares. See what we think before heading to the comments to chat about your experiences.

If you have a few minutes to kill, there are only a few worse ways to kill them than by playing this game.  Yitien is a browser-based fighting game based on a true story sort of Chinese setting, where your character is fated to be an epic hero and spends his or her time learning various skills and acquiring items and upgrades.  It's a fairly generic storyline in that regard with a prettily-veneered game space.  The game itself is free, but you'll quickly find that R2 Games is very much interested in your money and has placed much of the best content behind a paywall, including the top-level gear.  While it may be possible to grind the virtual currency you'll need to buy that gear without spending real money, it will take enough time that World of Warcraft's vanilla version of the Winterspring Frostsaber grind looks like a summer afternoon in the park.

You are talking about the guy that PERFECTED gold farming and moved to China to mirror the blitz monetization that companies like ten cent (who is now a majority shareholder of Blizzard) did in the asian F2P market...

This guy is the George Jung of the goldfarming/F2P world.

    I wouldn't touch a R2game with a 10' pole.

    What are your other Hobbies?

Gaming is Dirt Cheap compared to this...

Exactly, why even waste time reviewing anything by this company, they are all the exact same pay-to-win design.

    Well done review btw.

A fine breath-taking epic lovingly crafted review of ultimate craftsmanship and eloquence regarding a piece of 90% pay-to-win rat dung produced by a company known for hosting such things.

too bad they are the same people behind City of Steam. I actually liked the steampunk-ish theme of CoS but the game was too generic and clunky.

This is the epitome of all that's bad about the F2P genre.

F2P has it's good parts too, you just won't see very many of them in games like these...

Thank you for continuing to review these crap P2W games. Im glad you are highlighting them and letting people know not to waste thier time. Maybe if the community becomes more informed we wont see a dozen of these pop up every few months. Its also good that it highlights the publisher, not just developers, so people can know entire groups of games to stay away from. Im hoping to see the same treatment done to other publishers, not just R2Games. There are many that deserve it.

The first 30 levels are the tutorial. It it introduces features that are unlocked as you level up.  There are player made guides in the forums. Players are rewarded if they make an original guide. Leveling is slower later on.

An experienced player will complete the first 30+ levels in 30 minutes to 1 hour.

More features unlock as level up.  Kunlun Mountains (yeti hunt), Clan Battles, Gleaming Summit dungeon run,  Silent Temple dungeon run are features that you would not experience in the first 20 levels.

There are items that cannot bought be in shop.

The non-paying players rely on the auction house to earn in game credits.

If you miss  a day's play due to real life stuff, you can pay silver (which drops in dungeons etc) to get 70% of the xp you missed, or VIP has option of 100% xp.

The game itself is one the better browser games.

It is very much pay to win if you  are very competitive and want to rank high on your server. My main reservation is that the game is can be expensive to play for the top ranked players.
