    1) FTP games will start to fade away, in the West.  Fewer will be made and the populations will grow smaller.

    2) AAA MMOs will no longer be planned or funded.

    3) Niche MMOs will start to take a larger focus and PTP may exist at 5-10 dollars a month.

    4) Console MMOs will continue to fail, unless they are FPS/action.

    5) I will continue to not care about WoW sub numbers

“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”

ESO and Wildstar subs lets see .............

It's SWTOR all over again .

SUB's only as a revenue model is DEAD

It's true subs will never go away and that's good

But every game lunched in the last 5 years has gone F2P or buy 2 play

The SUITS need to get out of the way and let us game

so  what will 2014  bring .......

ESO and WildStar F2P by Dec 2014 .

    These will all be true!

    1. Wildstar will release and people that don't like it will call it a WoW Clone.

    2. The Elder Scrolls Online will release and people that don't like it will call it a WoW Clone.

    3. Everquest Next will launch at the end of the year and people that don't like it will call it a WoW  Clone.

    4. Destiny will launch and people that don't like it will call it a WoW Clone with guns.

    5. Warlords of Draenor will be released in the Summer and people will call it a WoW Clone...really guys? really?

nothing will change in 2014...people will still compare everything to WoW, and people will still be saying WoW is dying, and people will still call every MMO that has a single quest in it a WoW Clone lol.

    1. Sandboxers and hardcore full loot pvpers will still be left wondering why no one will make a AAA title with their heart's desire. Mostly, this is because they do not realize that the vast majority of gamers don't want this type of game and companies know that this type of MMO would not be profitable.

    2. There will be a dozen more MMOs announced and 11 of them will be called WoW clones whether they are or not and 6 of them will at some point be called a WoW killer tho none of them are.

    3. Warlords of Draenor, Hearthstone and the WoW movie will create a ressurgence of WoW subs by the end of the year that will not be equal to previous numbers but will definitely keep them on top.

    4. TESO will be hit with more backlash than fans and will be a dissapointment to many ES fans and become a single year game closing in 2015.

    5. WildStar will be big enough to take a number 2 seat under WoW, and with a proper advertising campaign or licensed producs will bring many new players to the genre... by the end of the year it will be burning strong with talks of an animated series or live-action movie. It will be the next big MMO to be sunk into pop-culture with mentions on TV shows and in movies.

wow is dying slowly but surely and I don't care what happens to wow I would not even be able to go through all the boring levelling missions if it went free.

everything is changing slowly but sorely ESO and EQN looks totally different than wow.

    1.  Wildstar is going to be next year's TOR or Tabula Rasa.

    2.  EQN is going to get most of its subscribers from EQ2.

    3.  I predict closures...several of them, as the publishers try to come to grips with the new reality: MMOs aren't the "killer apps" they were a decade ago.  Even publishers that are not known for shuttering games might be forced to shutter games.

    4.  Blizzard is going to suffer, since they have nowhere else to go other than Titan and that MOBA they're working on.  They came to the MOBA dance late, and Titan...well...I think by the time 2014 closes, we'll declare it vaporware.

    5.  TESO is probably in the best position to make a splash, based on the success of Oblivion and Skyrim.  But it'll succeed at the cost of chewing up the franchise and hearing regrets from the faithful.

    2. THE game of 2014 on line will be Hearthstone. Establishing a new wave of massively played casual games on line.

No way... Hearthstone gets boring really fast!

I  have been playing SolForge for over a year now and never really got tired of it (they just released a Drafting System!!).

I tried Hearthstone a few weeks ago and after a couple of weeks (mainly exclusively drafting) it got so boring that I don't feel like playing anymore.

Hearthstone is overrated and dull. Deck building is uncreative; even compared to a simple game like SolForge (which is designed to be extremely simple) but the deck creating and gameplay of SolForge, to me, out perform that of Hearthstone. Heck, I'm not even going to comment on Hex's potential once it's ready.

I honestly don't see Hearthstone keeping casuals entertained a lot. I'm not sure if it's the "class" rigid system which I despise (why would any TCG want to do that? a lot of wasted combo potential and very strict gameplay philosophy).

    1)  Wildstar will delay until summer.  The game will be a massive success, then crash four months out.  It will hold a steady player base, but the new WoW expansion will pull back a few subs.

    2)  WoW expansion drops right before Blizzcon.  But after Wildstar launch.  Target about 3 weeks after Carbine's game.  It will be a huge hit and sell 4 million copies in the west.  It will then be reported that the majority of the player base has left by end of the year.

    3)  Elder Scrolls Online will have a moderate, but dedicated player base.  By most accounts the game will be considering niche.  Until the console version drops.  Sales will boost and game will get a second wind.  Game being available on Mac will also give weight to ESO launch.

    4)  EQ Landmark will have tons of rumors and gossip.  NDA will keep the disappointed at bay for fear of losing their 60 or hundred investment.  Once Beta hits in March there will be plenty on the sandbox PVE front choosing Landmark over TESO for 20 bucks.

    5)  WoD will be officially cancelled by CCP, making me cry.

    Here's mine :

    1. Elder Scrolls Online will do reasonably well for a few months, then fail to keep people around.

    2. Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen will grab all the headlines towards the back end of the year.

    3. A wave of next-gen, sandbox AAA MMORPGs will be announced later in the year. Finally the long-overdue change to the stale MMO market.

    4. Darkfall Unholy Wars will close its doors and Aventurine will go out of business. Sad (as I love the concept), but very likely.

    5. Wildstar will not kill WoW.

1.) Gamers playing Wildstar will not be allowed within 100 yards of playgrounds or elementary schools.

2.) There will be a record number of deaths linked to Pro EQN gamers who choked while eating crow.

3.) Blizzard will announce their next MMO & it will actually sound good.

4.) Sub based games will do well despite the F2P leeches demanding free access to every game.

5.) I will be offered my own column by mmorpg.com but I will respectfully decline due to my own ethics & standards.
