Since no winter release and Alpha not until end of February IF you buy an expensive pre-order package?  Makes me wonder will Next even launch in 2014.

Where you get EQN release in 2014??? their no official eta on that one yet so how can they be behind schedule. All theyve said is you wil have axcess to landmark by the end of the winter which they seem to be on scedule for that one

I meant behind schedule on Landmark already since it was this Winter.

Well it was quite obvious that it won't happen in 2013. I'm actually impressed that they've delayed start of closed beta only to April (yeah, "before march 31" is "april") in actual real-life terms.

There is no schedule on open beta (because that's actually release those days), and you can use the product in any stage of readiness (or non-readiness) for closed beta, so I wouldn't expect actual playable open beta before summer.

Don't have the exact quote but it was "this year", "this winter" and "not beta". What we get is alpha before Feb 28th. Thats 2 of 3 and the "this year" was dropped a while ago. I don't realy think soe is behind schedule but they probably have issues with the ideas of the developers and their reception.

They supposed to release something to the gaming community this year, when EQN was revelaved in aug, it was not the game itself but landmark, now it seems not even landmark will be released this year.

Biggest hype ever and it fell flat.

If it's not broken, you are not innovating.

They specifically said Landmark would release this year - so definitely bummed they are delayed already.

pretty sure they said winter...now it will be end of january...seems reasonable...but i wouldnt expect an alpha of eqn before end of 2014

Personally, I'm really tired of this hype strategies in the last years. Giving almost no information every few months and years (!!) before the game releases.

It makes you feel excited, then lesd interested and finally bored of waiting. The strategy of checking how the community would receive a game when it is alpha or even earlier, is tedious.

I'm feeling like EQN is getting old as it's been a long time since they first mentioned it.

Remember the hype with SOE live? To say nothing clear?

I hope I get wrong, and I want to keep my pink-colored glasses, but MMORPGs market seems to have lost its path.

A delay in the schedule is not the end of the world.  At least they are still on track for an Alpha release between Mid Januarary and Feb 28th.   Delays are usually caused by showstopper bugs and you really need those bugs fixed as they would usually effect the ability to play the game.

This is in no way Vaporware since they are continuing to show us thier progress.

Have patience; Smed it driving the delevopement team to release the Alpha in Mid to late January.

In the reveal last summer, close to the end of the video,  they specifically said "December". Later sometime in october, they said "Winter"

Smed did say this year at SOE Live

Game is F2P, there are no pre-orders.

You can buy Founder's packs that gives alpha/beta or just beta access. It's on the official website (link is at the top).

"Players will get their hands on an actual release version of what we're doing late [this] year - and I don't mean a beta,"

That was bait and switch with what we thought was Everquest Next and it ended up being Landmark and even that little trick didn't work for them.

MMO players should be happy with delays. How many MMO's have we suffered through that should have had a years worth more of polish?

I welcome delays nowadays... shows that the devs might appreciate the value of polish more than strictly keeping a deadline even if the game aint finished
