After years of forum drama, finally there is a game that promise to bring back the memories of SWG (PVE) with some injection of DAOC (PVP)
What else could you desire?
Now it's the time to show how much you really cared about SWG by supporting The Repopulation.
I just made my Pledge................ so what are you waiting for?
Here is the Kickstarter link: The Repopulation Kickstarter
Here is a pick of my favorite Features:
PVP
- Unique three faction PvP system, where the third faction is allowed to set its alliances on a nation by nation basis.
- Featuring both a Standard and a Hardcore rule set for PvP on separate servers. Standard rules include large protected regions where players can avoid PvP completely if they wish, and no player looting is allowed.
- Build cities in the open world or besiege the cities of your enemies.
PVE
- Missions are not all combat oriented. There are crafting, harvesting, diplomatic, theft related, taming, and other non-combat variations available.
- One Time Missions spawn in random locations throughout the wilderness to encourage exploration.
- Settlements can turn into dungeons and towns can be overrun. Allowing this to happen can seriously alter the content available in an area.
GENERAL GAMEPLAY
- Two distinct modes of combat: Action Mode and RPG Mode. RPG Mode works like traditional RPG combat. Action Mode allows players to control the game in ways similar to a First Person Shooter. You can toggle between these modes at any time.
- Players are not forced into combat roles. Crafting, harvesting, diplomatic, trapping, taming, entertainment, and other non-combat oriented skills can operate and progress independently of combat.
- Skills increase automatically through use. Abilities are earned and not given automatically. Multiple hidden skills waiting to be unlocked by true achievers.
- Jump into combat in a vehicle, mech, or manned turret. Customize your vehicles and robotic pets.
- Entertain others through music, dance, or storytelling. Rogue skills including thievery, stealth, hacking, and acrobatics. Diplomacy and Taming are also in.
- Build your home or player city and showcase it to other players.
CRAFTING
- The crafting event system will require players to make decisions during the crafting process which will influence their result.
- Advanced Crafting systems which allows players to create thousands of variations of items through a total of 24 different trade skills.
- Each of the game’s recipes has its own mastery level which can be increased to produce higher quality items.

Tired of Kickstarter...
Tired of "sandbox" games that will have it all but but are not yet released or funded...
This ones new though. "SWG Vets put your money where your mouth is". This isnt SWG. This isnt even out yet. This isnt even funded yet.
"show how much you really cared about SWG by supporting The Repopulation. "
Wait, what? I can show how much I cared about SWG by throwing my money at an empty promise?
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
-IDK, might turn out to be a lovely game but this is the spammiest , spam I have ever seen and I have have heard these promises before on a million "sandboxs" that will give me the SWG "feeling"- Didnt MO even try that once with some spammers?
Have to agree. I think RePop has promise but It's getting really obnoxious when all these crowdfunded games use the same "If you liked "this old game" support our game!" lazy marketing technique especially when they don't have any of the same devs from the original game.
If the game is good it should stand on its own merits.
It all sounds good on paper, and maybe good, it may not be. It really depends on the final product. I am also not sure if a game can have the same crafting system in place.
Are there harvesters you place? Or something of the like, or is all resources gathered by hand. This alone was a major factor in SWG, and if it is not copied, it is essentially not the same at the core to begin with.
Different action influence the items, what kind of actions? Are we saying all resources are the same, or different. Having items have 2-3 of six possible variations on types of materials was an awesome idea. Meaning that yeah something might make awesome armor, but be useless for weapons, while something else may really only make one thing better than ever before to add that little bonus on top of those awesome weapons, food, or others stuff.
Part of OLD SWG was the HAM system, which is removed. It was required community interaction because you had to in order to even solo effectively. It was awesome. Until a game replicates the majority of what made SWG, it won't be another SWG or SWG lite.
Since majority of people on these forums don't like to read before replying i will copy paste for you an important part of the kickstarter.
We are nearing the point of the game, pushing from alpha into beta testing. We intend to start beta preview events in March, with beta following soon after. With us reaching this stage, we're at the point of trying to decide which fringe features will make or miss the games launch. We have a number of features that are on the bubble, and could easily be pushed to post-launch. Though if we had a little extra funding we could also bring on some additional hands to squeeze them into launch.
Every MMO till its release is an empty promise by the way. And this game is already funded. This Kickstarter is to squeeze in some more features but even if this kickstarter fails the game is still going to launch.
Next time try reading before replying.

It's working now
And by the way The Repopulation is not an empty box, it's going to enter Beta Stage in the second quarter of 2014.
I have followed the game and I really was positive on participating in a kickstarter for it eventually but then I read the tier rewards. I won't start the debate of pay2win here. I haven't read up on what you might or might not be able to buy with those ingame credits but it rubs me totally the wrong way that the main reward on their campaign seems to be dreaded ingame currency. To me that implies that the cash shop will play a big role in the game what especially in combination with very extensive crafting systems bears so much potential for messing stuff up.
So yeah, sitting this one out for now.
- Three distinct harvesting methods: Harvester, Manual or Extracted. Harvesters allow you to place harvesters on nodes and then return to collect the resources later. Manual harvesting utilizes tools and requires player interaction with each node. Or you can extract resources such as hides, meat, tissue or DNA from corpses.
I hope it answers your question
I read it.
I have heard it all before.
Once it launches it will be "small team" as the excuse for why half the shit doesnt work and "not enough money" as an excuse why development begins to crawl.
I hear "blah blah blah blah blah crowdfunding" and "blah..blah..blah..this feature...that feature..." And "blah...blah...blah nearing Alpha/beta" (Greed Monger anyone?) and then the excuses.
I the game is good (and I really hope it is) then I will be happy as I love the genre. But odds and statistics tell me this will be more of the same empty promise and false hope. If its almost ready thats great- They dont need my money. If the product is good they will get my money to add more features.
EDIT- Also understand. The state of the "Sandbox" genre itself is why I am jaded and do not trust these indie developers with huge promises. I once did. Its nothing personal. Fuck me once shame on you- Fuck me twice, shame on me... Just too many empty promises in the genre this last decade.
ok...where to begin. There is a lot wrong with that first post. I am a long time follower of The Repopulation, and I played SWG from start to finish. Nothing about The Repopulation screams SWG to me.
I also refuse to throw money at a promise, no way in hell am I doing that. When there is a product on the table then you can have my money.
Using the show you cared for that by supporting this, never works. That is like saying drink coke to show your support for Pepsi. Yeah they are both soft drinks and cola's, but not the same thing. My throwing money at the Repopulation has nothing to do with my care for SWG. At all.
Your post most likely did more harm than good. Using 'I dare you' tactics on MMORPG.com is bound to back fire in a spectacular way. Let me grab my pop corn.
If you want a new idea, go read an old book.
In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.
There is nothing wrong.
I just copied and pasted some points on the Kickstarter page.
Apart the PvP section.................. what part of the features are not SWG friendly?!
You know, this is the 2nd kickstarter campaign they have ran. That alone should send up flags. This game also is not already "funded" otherwise it would not need kickstarter. Kickstarter is to help get more funding. It maybe able to launch in its current state, but to me it can not without the added funding from kickstarter to get all that it needs.
@ste2000, thanks for the reply about the harvesting methods.
Indeed. I looked at this game a year ago and liked what I HEARD (nothing much to see) ...good things. Lots of talk and very little progress in this one.
But then, it's an indie Kickstarter (twice over even!) so we must love it to pieces. It's the law in this forum.

Actually the biggest thread on the Repop forums is the SWG refugee thread not checked lately as I missed out on SWG as I was playing Eve at the time but 37 pages long and that was a while ago !!
Also the devs and most of the community volunteers were SWG players and some were very well known in the community at that time no other game comes close to the total open nature of early SWG,Repop is going to do it's best for all those SWG vets who want that same feeling from years back.
This kickstarter is to squeeze some features in which otherwise would be released post launch. I don't see how that raises a red flag? game is still going in beta with or without these features. This is more like an optional kickstarter and not mandatory and has no bearing on release of the game. You make it sound as if this kickstarter failed game will also die.

I think the downfall of this game will be that its F2P. It is one of the reasons I will not be checking it out. I doubt they will have a huge players base to buy little crap from it to make them some money and they will rely heavily on a few whales to keep them afloat.
Its not going to pull a large number of people from FPS games, its too complex and takes more time to accomplish anything than a run and gun game.
Its not Star Wars.
The crafting looks complex, might be too complex for many to even bother. Most of the vid's I have seen have been all about crafting and were pretty boring to the point I was falling asleep watching them. (May just be me but it does not appeal to me)
No need to be so sarcastic.
I don't Pledge to every MMO Kickstarter campaign, and I suspect that most people don't..............
This thread was aimed to SWG players who complained for years that there was no MMO they could play because Developers refused to make such game.
Now there is an Indie which is trying to make something similar to SWG so I thought that some SWG players might want to help those devs create the game they want to play instead of complaining.
Of course they might choose not to Pledge any money, that will only confirm to the MMO Industry that this kind of games are not viable.
Start Citizen raised almost $40 Million................ which means that players want to play that kind of game.
So if SWG Vets are serious about loving SWG they should show the MMO Industry that there is a market for that kind of game......... or else nobody will make them.
I believe the game is funded and this kickstarter is primarily for extra features. They want to hire on extra people so they can implement the newer features without slowing down production of everything else.
For those who have not a clue about the game and what the heck they are talking about mention no names but there are a few here, check this out before spouting off and posting spurious garbage.
Especially check point 2 relating to subscriptions which will be in the game.

The next time I see an OP in this forum as positive and enthusiastic as yours is about a game that isn't an indie KS, I'll stop being sarcastic about how mmorpg.com chic it is to cheer exclusively for the unknown little guys... deal?
BTW... I obviously follow the Repop as well.... I think that was in there somewhere amid my sarcasm.
PS #2: re: your comment about Star Citizen and $40 Million... GTA sold $1 Billion in 3 days... is that the kind of game everyone should now make?
“Microtransactions? In a single player role-playing game? Are you nuts?”

Yeah... Because non-combat profs worked soooooo well in SWG that it is a solid selling point... Oh wait.. They did not unless they directly provided for combat.
But since you said it is funded i see no reason to put any money in to it until it releases.
Also it is you know... Not Star Wars...
But i will take your advice and let my money speak... About 6-8 months after the game is released when it is clear if this is worth playing or not.
This have been a good conversation
Wasn't this game already funded once on kickstarter?
I'm all for the game and will play it when released... but I can't really get behind multiple kickstarter campaigns.
"Read Less, More TV." - Dr. House
The other tactic- MO used this one all the time. If you dont support this game then nobody will make these types of games.
How about "Build it and they will come" ...FIRST.
No more money for unfinished games. This is making more unfinished games and more unfinished games as everyone wants to now make a game without having money and expects the fans to foot the bill. This has to stop.
All I am sayin =P
End this madness. The quality we keep getting is shit. Garbage and broken regardless of whats on paper. Once someone makes something quality it will sell.
Well probably you missed the thousands of positive and over-enthusiastic threads about SWTOR, GW2 and TSW prior release (Can't say the same people didn't change their mind after release though).
What about the positive ones about Wildstar and EQNext?
In fact the only AAA MMO who is having a hard time to gather some support is ESO.
So I don't understand what you are blubbing about........
In fact AAA Themeparks already have tons of positive press and crazy Fanboys to support them, so if sometimes few threads in support of Indie games pops up, it shouldn't disturb you too much.
There is a market for that kind of game, being that swg was already successful and profitable from day 1.
If they want to keep making all combat WOW clones, let em.
