Game launched with way too little variation in skills. Rather than new weapons, I would like to see multiple skills for existing weapons. There should be at least 3-5 different skills you can put in each slot. I don't mind skills locked to weapons, but the static 5 skills per weapon just felt bad. This could also be fixed by having an augment system which significantly changes skills.
The current choice of skills to use is imho the worst problem with gw2. The limited possibilities is a problem but mostly (to my taste) they are not very good/fun/tactical. Having tried all most to 20-30, Mesmer has been the only profession I found somewhat rewarding.
So if You ask me, a rework of skills would definately be the first place to start in order to "fix" gw2 haha. And while that thought is on the table, make the skillsets support eachother much better, meaning put some roles into the game, so it is more than a singleplayer game in a shared environment. It should be possible to design systems that embrace cooperative gameplay and still have great singleplayer gameplay aswell.
If only this beautiful world would host a better game, a roleplaying game.. All the tech is there, and it "only" needs to admit where it went wrong and change that while sticking with what it does right. One step would be an extensive profession skill rehaul, do it
Can we get two separate forums/comment sections on this site? One for just "I hate this game and only want to talk unconstructive shit about everything" and one for legitimate MMORPG fans? All the people who hate everything can just be amongst their friends bashing everything until the cows come home.
So if people constructively say the fixed 5 skills on weapons is an issue is a bash on the game? Take off the rose tinted glasses because that apparantly is a reason quite a few people turned their backs on the game me included.
Being able to switch weapons means nothing every person will have the same weapon skills regardless the only difference if any is on traits which some are too good to not use.
Each weapon should have had choices with skills unlocked via finding them or some specific dungeon or world boss drop not having all weapon skills from x weapon when you are still lvl 10-20 and still have 60 more levels to reach using the same 5 skills over and over.
Take for example the staff, should have had the option on having skills to focus more on doing aoe damage, direct damage or hell, damage over time. Plenty of weapons could have gotten some sort of choices... Another example swords focusing on bleeding, slashing damage or to work defensively with shields/warhorn/whatever.
The choices are so wide it's a shame you are forced on using x or y weapon if you want that type of damage.
Originally posted by Vutar People on the official forums are even complaining about the game at this point. That is saying something. Mods there delete/move usually any thread that is slightly negative but it appears they have largely given up.

Because in most MMORPGs you play 3000 hours leveling and getting skills and then you play a few hours at max level cap with no new skills...

Well they've really only just started getting their feet wet with the living story. The first story arch wraps up in ~2months starting January 24th. After that its all features for the next several few months. People who say the game is broken beyond repair are clueless. Their are loads of players not only playing, but spending cash. The item shop has generated so much money and the living story is such an intuitive way to deliver content that their is a fairly good chance a full-on expansion will not even be developed, there is just no reason to, they're making tons of money and adding tons of content for free. The living story is now on track with how they want to work things, the pacing has been fine tuned--to all the naysayers who gave up on the game months ago for whatever reason, give it another chance, you just might be surprised... not to mention ITS FREE for you, what have you got to lose?
To the question at hand, I want a hammer for my elementalist a greatsword for my thief and a shield for my Mesmer... in fact shield for everyone!
More weapons would add diversity and might even make some classes feal better for some. Sounds quite good. But face it: the game lacks new content. Where should I go with new weapons after 18 months in always the same world. And no: the living story adds nothing worth playing, only repeatable achievement grind. No, Thank you. Done with that. Give us a full blown expansion or play your game on your own, ArenaNet.
More weapons AND more weapon skills to choose from would be great! One thing that bothers me is the limited options you have for each weapon. I hate it when I want to use a type of weapon, but don't like 2 of the skills.
I don't think the system is broke beyond repair, but I still hate all the available current options. I don't know how League of Legends manages to do more with less, but they do. That's saying a lot considering the limited number of actual abilities.

I'm totally with you on the above weapons. And I also very much miss the skills system in GW1 even tho I'm much more used to the weapons skills with GW2 now and like it a lot more then when first started playing the game. Now lets see if they will fulfill my wish lol.
Thief:
1. Dual wield swords
2. Dual wield axes
3. Great sword
4. Long bow
5. No shield. Just to picture a thief with a shield is an unfitting site!
Necro:
1. Great sword
2. Sword
War:
1. Short bow
Ranger:
1. Pistol (main hand or off hand only)
2. Riffles
3. Shield
Ele:
1. Give it more weapons and I might consider playing it.
This was my thought exactly when I first experienced their skill system. At first I thought I didn't like having 5 fixed skills to my weapon. Then I thought...wait...how cool would it be once they start adding new weapons!? HAH! Wait, where are the new weapons?

Even though i knew exactly what i was gonna be able to choose from prelaunch, it sounded fun on paper, in practice it wasnt. It just gets repetetive somehow even though you use all 10 skills all the time. But in the end it feels restraining, plus the lack of "need" for using certain spells due to no mana/energy management just gets stubidly boring.
However, if the game implemented the abillity to actually choose whatever skills youd like, im sure alot of players would return.

Yeah I gave up. They don't respond or implement anything players suggest. I haven't spent a dollar since initial purchase.
Some new weapons would be cool......but unless any of the critics here can point me to a game that is better i'll stick around in GW2 thank you.
Being negative is easy....for those looking for the next game that will be the messias......get a live, no game will ever be perfect.....maybe you should develope your own mmo that has it ALL.......then come and take my money so i can flame you about the buggs in it
Being negative doesn't always come from being angry or troll behaviour.
I for one am frustrated. The MMORPG genre is heading downhill. Not speaking from personal preference but looking at the popularity of released games. It used to be like, what mmorpg do I want to play? I'll try this one and if it's not to my taste I'll try that one. Right now MMORPG's are released, you try them a few months before you stop and wait for the next MMO to try. After a while they go F2P and slowly die. The good ones are actually still somewhat (or very) alive like UO, DaoC, Runescape, L2, EQ2, EVE Online and of course WoW. How long do we have to wait before they realize what we like? There are plenty good examples.
The only thing confusing the makers are all the idiots (including myself) screaming what they want in their next big MMORPG. They shouldn't listen to us. They should just make their game and see what happens. Because everybody wants something else, you can't ask a million ppl what they want and just add a collection of their top choices. That just doesn't work.
Stop making these "innovative" games and give us core MMORPG elements in an engrossing world. Gameplay is heavily overrated, f#ck action mmorpg's, f#ck dodging and weird variations of vertical or horizontal progression. Give us core gameplay but make the world big, immersive with great atmosphere, cool mobs, good loot and for fck sake don't hold our hand but give us a constant sense of danger, be it from PvE or PvP.
These are my thoughts behind my first post. But nobody takes it seriously so I sound like a troll/hater I guess.

That would be interesting. Or thief dual swords. I would also like to see what an engie could do with a melee weapon or a bow.
My sentiments exactly.
