Seriously , I could think of 500 other things I would like to know about then a feature that 99.9 of players will not ever be able to experience. Three months till release and we do not know squat . I want to like this game but they are making it extremely difficult lol.

So you dont know how the class and skill system works?  You do not know that you have to capture keeps, mines, etc in order to sell your goods in a guild store?   You do not know what races there are to play?  You do not know there is 3 faction pvp?  There is information out there about the game.  And to be quite honest i dont want to know every single detail about the game before i play it.  I want to experience it not read about all of it before i get to experience it for the first time.

Ignorance means that when you think that if you dont care for something, noboddy cares...

its one of a zillion features to give meaning and spice up PvP...

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

Its the whole focus on everything they have talked about though. THAT makes it important, at least to them. They have said more and reported more OFFICIALLY about Emperor rank and armor and how it works than everything else combined. At least in terms of any 'unique' feature this MMO might have.

I said it from day one that it was a bad idea. But it is the way they think they will be able to keep these mega PvP guilds around longer than they normally might.

Its also why PvP is the main focus, because in their minds PvP guilds who jump from game to game make the world go round. They saw it in GW2 I am sure when those guilds would jump servers and see how those servers instantly dropped in competitiveness. Its all about numbers.

So the big carrot on the long stick is the emperor.

Its actually taking leaps backwards in terms of what games try to do. Theyre actually promoting the elitism that a lot of gamers hate, by dangling a clearly elitist goal for people to obtain. It will surely backfire as alot of things will.

It is one thing if there is a clear separation of PvP and PvE in a game. The PvP peopel can always claim it doesnt matter if 'they' get it because PvP is SEPARATE from PvE, and PvE people can justify it because it is in fact separate. But from what has been told and reported PvP and PvE will be conjoined in many ways.

Thats why the hopes of this game continue to spiral in a lot of peoples minds. "Bad" decision on top of bad decision.

Anyone looking to become emperor better join a big guild that focuses in PvP. Pretty much the zerg groups will own the campaings.

I was trying to think up a good way to respond to the idiocy of this post without getting banned (but I always eventually do) but you summed it up pretty well for me so thanks.

Which is working as intended, not often you see a leader without followers lol. I would be disappointed if they allowed potential Emperors to be the lone wolf even if they are the best PVPer in the universe.

Hehe solo players can be King Nothings :)

Emporer?? Is that going to be one of those money sinks that no one really cares about, but the person who has it?

Who cares? Honestly every punk PVP kid that failed at gym class yet needs to feel special in the world like they won the Olympics.  I would hate to be the Emperor as every internet tough guy (and girl) from the continental US to the slums of Asia will be gunning for his bottom in the worst kind of way. This likely includes the same hackers that hit video game streamers. LMAO. They are going to have no real friends.

While I feel this is a questionable feature for an MMORPG of the traditional sort (work great for a MOBA) it spotlights what they desire to focus on this game for PVP RVR. That includes the creating a sense of elitism some want to rage against.  The game is what it is and that's a spiritual successor to another tile rather than a true elder scrolls experience.

It is just a bonus skill line you have access to when you become emperor that you keep when you are no longer emperor you still have it but it is weaker (this is information directly from the article about this on this site). Evidently many can ultimately become emperor but only the one in power has all the true perks that go along with it.

It is likely bound to doing well within the pvp system so for those players who plan on participating in the rvr-like system it seems like a decent little cherry on top. Who ever is currently emperor likely is a person with great rvr experience by that time and can utilize the bonuses well to assist their faction. It is more a realm/alliance pride mechanic.

I see no way how this possibly could be a money sink as you describe it. Sounds like it has no affect in the pve world other than perhaps making your alliance stronger in rvr thereby increasing the chance of better bonuses in pve granted by victories in the Cyrodiil war.

    You stay sassy!

hmmm, well I'm not really a beliver that every player should be able to get everything without work/effort/team work.

This is supposedly the highest pinnacle that one can reach and there are benefits. For those who are competitive the will want to know about this.

And heck, even if you aren't competitive, if you find yourself on the battlefield against the emperor than I suspect you might want to know what he/she has up his/her sleeve.

That actually sounds pretty cool. I was thinking along the lines of a nobility/donation system and players compete on who has donated the most currency.

The OP is upset because the game will include a "feature" which he knows he most likely will never experience. The old accessibility argument, we've seen it time and time again. Just because there's an aspect of the game that you may never participate in doesn't mean it's bad or shouldn't be included. Essentially you're saying: "Well, what about me?". Here's the deal, you're not 6 years old anymore..the old me me me thing should be in the past. There will be many many other activities which you'll be able to participate in and make some sort of impact. Zenimax can't please everyone. Stop trying to water down our MMOs for god's sake.

It's a wonderful idea. For PvP-oriented players, it lends incentive to mobilize in an effective manner to capture keeps and supply points even if you are a traditionally "selfish" player. You might become the equivalent of freaking Sauron walking onto the field! So awesome.

Also, there is a lot of promise for smaller forces to be effective against the zerg, and a well-run group could conceivably have a member who tops the leaderboards and becomes emperor. If you as  player contribute more individually than anyone else, it won't matter that some uber guild captured the last keep. Your performance is what matters. One could say that a smaller force performing well against bigger odds has a BETTER chance of climbing the leaderboards than anyone in a zerg.

Zerg rolls group. Average "points" gained per member: very low.

Group rolls group or group harries zerg effectively. Average points per member: much better.

So in essence this is rewarding even odds more than zerging. Another thing that can keep forces small is the need to defend keeps once you have them. One zerg blob will not be able to win a campaign unless their enemies are idiots. Hell, two zerg blobs couldn't. If I am leading a smaller  force, I am highly-mobilized and concentrating on capturing access lines thus preventing fast travel and easily keeping tabs on your bloated force. I am taking your resource nodes. I am nipping at your tail then running. I am updating my alliance mates about your numbers and tactics, and if you leave a keep undefended I am taking it. When you arrive to reclaim it, my force will soak up the Alliance Points from your zergfarm. Mmmm yummy. See you on the Ruby Throne.

In addition, Emperors impart bonuses to all of a faction's players, not just PvPers. So those not interested in AvA still have a reason to root for their side. It'll be like sports fans talkong around the water cooler. "How bout that Lion Guard, huh? Didn't see that one coming!"

Finally, it makes me hopeful that ZOS is risking making sensitive players cry about not being able to have what the next guy has. Less hand-holding and more "if you want it, take it." The effort should reflect the rewards, and it's cool that someone is finally saying "you know what? We are going to give you some teeth. Well done." It makes it MEAN something because it ties PvP to self-interest (which everyone has) in a way that requires helping your entire alliance. Win/Win.

I'll bet money people are going to farm emperor status and sell the characters with exploits out the wazoo.

I don't know what rock you have been under but we know an absurd amount about this game despite it being under a tight NDA, there is actually  little we don't know about the game at this point.

This is what I'd be afraid of.  I can see it now.  You have one guy on one faction, then have like 10-15 of his buddies on another, then they line up and one by one, he kills them and gets points XD

Haha you guys are crazy, also what you two are thinking would  1. never ever work, and 2. never sell, your putting too much into it . Emperor will not be a "superman" and will not be near as rare as people are thinking.

Are you kidding? There has been so much information released over the past year that you must either be wilfully ignorant or a troll.

As for who cares, PvP players who enjoy a challenge, that's who.

This is one of those features where the developers are just begging for epic forum rage post launch about OP Emperor skills.  Many players and PVP ones especially are going to poop bricks of hate on every forum they can if the Emperor skills even have a different casting color much less are more powerful in even the slightest perceivable way.  Whatever these skills launch as day 1 in 6 months or less they will be nerfed down to irrelevance no doubt.

I can see what they are trying to do by making this something people strive for but making custom skills or really any unique buff that is meaninful in anyway is just asking for tons of hate poured your way by everyone who doesn't have the skill's.

You obviously just want to rant and troll.... There is much on the developer's website alone to inform you about the game. Much has been released and discussed about many features in the game, from class structure to how PvP is going to work.

Might want to try using Google.

Will the Emperor be on the battlefield? I thought Emperors just sat on their comfy thrones. :)

Crazy like a fox. Did you see what happened with high warlord/grand marshall? I'm pretty sure if Simon from the Yogscast wanted to be emperor or AngryJoe or anyone with an army of followers they could make it happen. Your just naive if you can't see the writing on the wall for the potential exploits and abuse this will bring.
