If you're excited...why?

Just looking to get why people are excited for Wildstar.  I am looking forward to playing this game.  Just looking to see what other people are excited for.  I like the humor, art, and combat.  What are you most interested in seeing and why?   What is drawing you to this game?  And being objective, what are you worried about or what do you hope is implemented in future patches?  Lots of exciting games on the horizon, this is one of many.

If you don't plan on playing, why comment?

Wasn't interested at all until I saw some of the recent videos, it really does look great in motion.

    1) Fun looking combat. Seems to have taken all the previous offerings and improved on them.

    2) Their view on CC and game mechanics.

    3) You can be a scientist.

    4) Interesting looking classes and world.

Definitely enough for me to give it a shot. Will it have staying power? No idea. But I will be there at launch for sure.

I'll check it out when and if I ever get a beta invite but the game is not on my Radar firmly because I dislike the art and graphics immensely!

Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!

Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!

Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!

I was excited, but then I tried it for a bit. As soon I started I just felt.. WoW. I've always knew the game is gonna similar in a ways you know, but I thought "There are new mechanics, combat is different and fresh!". Even tho my eyes looked at a different game(well sorta, the similar art style doesnt help). In my soul it felt like Im playing WoW all over again and it burned !

My attitude towards the game remains possitive, but... when I close my eyes..

Me, I like the art and aesthetics in WildStar., and It just looks fun, that's it really, fun.

I'm looking forward to trying it out when I get the opportunity.

Like Xarko I was really hyped for the game and looking forward to trying it, then when I did it was a real anti-climax. There is nothing apart from the combat and setting that is different to WOW. Imagine WOW with Tera gameplay machanics and you have Wildstar.

I'll try to keep my bias in check for this:

I like the combat, the questing, and housing of Wildstar. More importantly, I feel like - or, at least, it seems like - the Devs are pretty upfront about what the game is and what direction they're interested in going. Having only been omitted from a couple off-the-wall beta tests for lesser-known games this season, I am comfortable saying that my time spent with Wildstar has been immensely more enjoyable than anything else.

Wildstar isn't exactly buzzword worthy (read: innovative), but what it does is done well and with attention to detail. I wouldn't say it's for anyone whose so jaded they literally can't handle modern questing or anything with similarities to the current ten ton gorilla; though, I have seen some self-proclaimed WoW haters actually come away with good feelings. Again: it doesn't reinvent the wheel, it makes tweaks and adds features that've been clamored for by certain groups for some time now.

My concerns are that they're not going to make the scheduled release frame and be forced to push it back once again. As far as I'm aware, there haven't been any public raid tests and the beta is still level-capped -- I believe they're ramping that up little-by-little in the coming weeks, though. There are also a few QOL aspects missing, though I've heard many of them are intentionally left out for now and will be placed in prior to launch. If not, I do have faith in the modding community to fill in the gaps. As well, coming from a person who spends a lot of time in character customization (RPer, lol), I find some of the options lacking.. and they've been adding/removing for some time now - makes it hard to nail down a character in prep for launch.

It tells the people its just a game...

And its a great game at that, fun to play... still an MMO but with great mechanics..

    -CC is done awesomely

-Telegraphs might be a bit overdone

    - Healing looks to be fun in a trinity

    - Combat is fast paced and you need to move your frat ars..

    - adventuring gets a different swing when you choose your seccondary classjob..

    - Love the art and annimations

-There is a lot of humor in the game

-No Cooldowns on skills... combined with the Telegraphs this forces you to look to the combat on the screen

    But on the other hand..

    - Its good all WoW questing all over again

    -Not many dynamics in PvE

    - Most quests are not voiced... putting it the game back to the backseat... voice overs are the prime mechanic for good story telling because all those people are to lazy to read quests.

    - No deep lore

    - I personally prefer games with more skills on the bar... espescially if they are resource based...

As said, its more a game then a virtuall world... and i think its very fun and good at that part, being a game..

Which got me wonder why this forum is so underpopulated..

I'm not really "excited" per se, perhaps im to jaded after TOR, which I didnt hate, but I burned through content to fast, so maybe I need a game with a raid glass ceiling, a goal I can keep working toward, but never fully reach.  I am anticipating Wildstar though, I really like the art style, and the tone of the game.  I'm a big fan of the stylized, vibrant/colorful look.  Combat looks fun and different, while still preserving the trinity, after GW2, Ive found I prefer a trinity setup, it feeds me need for structure and focus.  I also apreciate the fact that it doesnt take itself to seriously, and the sci-fi setting looks promising.

Will I play it long term?  dont know, the only 2 MMOs i ever did were Anarchy online and WoW.

  • HatefullHatefull Member EpicPosts: 2,503

I was looking forward to this game quite a bit. I like the feel of the game, the combat etc. I am not in love with the art style but for me it is easy to look beyond that if the game play is fun. Which it looks to be. My only real gripe, and before I put this out I realize most will consider this a very minor issue and will try and explain 100 different ways to get around it, but I am not interested.

Anyway, my issue with the game, what made me decide to wait until it has been around a while to play is the add-on support. Yes, I know.

I do not have any issue with enhanced maps, UI's, auction house etc. But in a game like this (and WoW, now.) where there are already heaps of telegraphs, making an add-on that tell you where to stand, what skill to use, when to move etc etc, is just too much for me. Way too much hand holding there imo.

Gear score, Dps meters, fall into a slightly less annoying category I understand people have developed their play style around DPs meters and the players that work 6 days a week don't want their one day they get to raid ruined by a player in rice paper armor. I can get past that, but the full on, add-ons that basically play the game for you, I can't and these I can see being in this game in force.

So most of the game looks great to me, this is my only real issue with it. I am however, excited to see it do well, the whole genre needs a kick in the trousers and hopefully this game will do it.

If you want a new idea, go read an old book.

In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.

I like the look of Wildstar, and the fact it reminds me of WoW with a sci fi twist to it. Yes, I actually enjoyed my time playing WoW, but I always favored sci fi to straight up D & D fantasy. So, Wildstar = WoW in space. I'm comfortable with that.

I like the player housing aspect and I'm glad it's in the game at launch. I'm also pleased Carbine is doing more with housing than simply a place to log from or decorate. Well done, Carbine!

The telegraphs may take some getting used to, especially  for the pet class, Engineer. From the videos I've seen, the bots do not dodge mob telegraphs and consequently die far too quickly. What I wonder is, as an Engineer, would I spend most of the battle moving my bot pets around, dodging enemy telegraphs at the expense of actually attacking mobs with my Engineer.

I hope Carbine will implement fishing as a secondary profession. I always enjoyed fishing in WoW, as it provides the player with more non combat related things to do. It also goes nicely with cooking. I've read that Carbine will add fishing, but are still working on making it more "original" to Wildstar. We shall see.

I am curious if there will be any racial specific abilities, as these will impact player class choice. Class choice affected by race is one thing, but if racial abilities are added, that could complicate matters even more. So far I have seen no evidence of racial abilities, so this concern may be unfounded.

Wildstar will be the first MMO I preorder, and will be the first MMO I jump into from launch. I realize the risk this involves, as I have read many  horror stories from disappointed gamers of past titles. However, I have very good feelings about Wildstar due to the reasons I listed above. I do not expect Wildstar to become as successful as WoW. So long as Carbine releases a game that is fun, engaging, and keeps me entertained, I will gladly subscribe, and continue to do so.

As far as the telegraphs go, hopefully they tune the attacks to be more punishing if you dont dodge them vs other games non telegraph attacks that have to hurt less since you cant predict them.

this means adding challenge to the game....and thats what everyone has been asking for for ages on these boards...

Speaking for friends of mine that eagerly anticipate this game: it's because they like larger-manned raids, trinity-style combat, and want action combat on top of that. Humor and a break from medieval/fantasy are only bonuses.

I am looking forward to W* for these reasons...

It's a SciFi planet based MMO that isn't ONLY just PvP and my character's butt isn't the aft end of a Thorax Cruiser anymore (or other ship)....

It's got Player Housing, and it's got hopefully GOOD Player Housing that has depth, options, usefulness, not some house with walls to hang a few things on but otherwise useless like LotRO...

It's got a Combat system that won't be a snoozefest like some other MMOs... Players will have to pay attention more, hopefully it will also be more fun as a result... If I "blow off" a series of telegraphs the game better hand me my....

It's got a Crafting system with depth and complexity, Gathering that can turn "ugly" and unexpected things can happen, both good and bad, Crafting itself seems like it will promote excellence and dedication rather than just "meh"..... from what I understand Crafting will actually MATTER at end game for once...

Large Seamless world (less instancing than recent MMOs or so I am lead to believe)...

It's a MMO with a sense of humor.... and I won't be the only Hero or the savior of the universe...

and it's a MMO that is findling ways to encourage and reward grouping and Player cooperation/collaberation, without forcing same.

    ---------

    What I don't necessarily like about W*....

Is it more of a themepark than a Sandbox? Yes (prefer Sandbox)

Is it got that cartoony graphics style I am not fond of? Yes (prefer realistic/gritty graphics style like ESO/LotRO/EvE)

Does W* allow use of "Add-ons"? Yes (potential for abuse of game and players)

Does it have something like a "PLEX" system? Yes (CREDD) (potential for players to abuse game economy / other players thru poorly regulated 'official" RMT)

    ------------

End Analysis for me... in this MMO genre NOW, we take what we can get... and the Pluses outweigh the Minuses with WildStar for me, so I am looking forward to it, will have to see how it shapes up through Beta (not in Beta, no invite yet, watching like so many others...).

    • Sci-fi
    • Seamless world with large zones
    • Action combat
    • Lots of PVP options (open world, battlegrounds, Arena, Warplots)
Everything else is just icing on the cake.
  • NadiaNadia Member UncommonPosts: 11,798

    scifi themepark

nonraiding character options at level cap   (will see...)

  • StarIStarI Member UncommonPosts: 987
No excitment for me as all I see is another themepark with new eyecandy and some extra fluff.
  • GormogonGormogon Member UncommonPosts: 224

I'm looking forward to trying out the combat.  I'm not convinced it will wind up being anything more than a novelty in the genre, but I'd like to see the timing mechanics for myself, as well as see whether the telegraphing system actually allows for more complex combat or whether a good player can learn the attacks of various adversaries well enough to not need them.  I'm also really interested to see how well housing and the path system are integrated into the game, or if they will just be frosting on top of WoW.

My biggest concern is simply that there is nothing about the game that really tugs at me.  The hook is that WildStar is a throwback to "vintage WoW," with the trendy action combat of TERA and Neverwinter.  I haven't seen anything that makes me feel like I want to play around in the world for any longer than needed to answer the questions above.  In other words, it feels like another 8-week MMO to me walking in.  I haven't gotten into the beta yet, though, so I guess I'll see.

    Specifically: combat and their classes.

But I'm also looking for a new game to give me the same buzz I felt when first getting into MMORPGs many moons ago.  I feel like this one might do it.

  • RebelScum99RebelScum99 Member Posts: 1,090

A few reasons, in no particular order:

    1)  The Combat.

    2)  Classes are very well-done and all are unique.  Not homogenized like you see in GW2.

    3)  The return of 40 man raids.

    4)  TRINITY!!!!!!  (Thank you, Baby Jesus).

    5)  That "Vanilla WoW" feeling of playing your first MMO.

    6)  Really impressive lore for an unknown IP.

    7)  Zones that are ALIVE with activity.  Mobs that actually act like you'd expect them to act IRL.

    8)  Sci-Fi

    9) Mother******* hoverboards.

    10) Zero Gravity! (in certain zones)

The fact that it even HAS zones is a huge negative.... That means, tiny, bordered areas.  I have yet to see a large "zone" in any MMO.

Simply it looks like a lot of fun, an unashamed themepark with good combat.  Sometimes (as much as I want a nice open world sandpark/ themebox) the best way to relax and enjoy a little escapism is via a well constructed themepark.  This looks to be better than any released in the last few years.

I'm going to be honest here and admit I'm excited for Wildstar simply because it's a new high quality title. It means another chance for me to find an MMO that can actually keep me occupied. If it turns out to be otherwise, it's going to get dropped like a hot potato. I'm not going to prejudge it.  It looks high quality and I look forward to finding out.
