AvA is going to be massive. It's almost 100% better than GW2 WvW.
Once you get used to the combat, the strategy you can employ is immense.
Maybe you should tell people about the strategic combat... And how it sets PvP apart from other games?
Sure, on a micro level the biggest difference between your WoWs, RIFTs, Swtors, GW2s, TSW's, and FFAR's is the Active block button. When you see something coming at you, you do not have to pray to the dice roll gods, you can do something about it. Combine that with a player controlled normal attack that allows you to swing light and fast all the way to hard and slow, depending on how long you hold the attack.
You see things like Player A opens with slow, heavy duel dagger attack. Player B blocks the attack and counters with a quick light two handed weapon attack. Player B then follows up with a second heavier medium attack, but is blocked/interrupted (RMB+LMB) by Player A, putting player B in a dazed state. Notice NO class or weapon abilities have been used in this scenario.
On a macro level, the huge map prevents circle Zergs and allows room for solo players and smaller groups to operate. The terrain is also a very real factor. Attempting to cross a large river just might kill you.
Also you guys, it is Realm vs. Realm, not World vs World or Alliance vs Alliance.... /sigh nooblets.
No, DaoC was Realm vs Realm because you were from a realm. in TESO you are a member of an alliance and thus its AvAvA.
The only reason why people called it Alliance vs Alliance was due to them being called Alliances in those games. Techically GW2 isn't WvWvW, its SvSvS as in Server vs Server vs Server.
Realms and Alliances (in TESOs case) could as easily be called World vs World or Server vs Server since you don't actually play together until PvP....your "realm" could even be hosted on an entirely different server as the other "realms" and you wouldn't even know it.
Its just a label.

Yes, you guys are like the meek... a loud meek but nevertheless you will someday inherit the earth...just keep the faith
Sandbox has been transformed into this holy grail that IMO is not real. We get a string of bad themepark games so sandbox must be the answer. Only sandbox games when empty are the most dead and useless games you can play as the players are the only thing keeping the game going forward. IMO Themeparks with 20-40% sandbox mixed in is the future. There is a reason most MMOs are not made in the likes of sandbox. They die faster. Granted there are exceptions too every rule. This whole, game will fail because its theme park IMO is really weak.
Oh come on, be nice to people of other faiths... even if drinking koolaid is their sacrament.

Honestly, I dunno. I rarely was so unsure of my own opinion as in the ESO beta. I'd really love to talk with people to understand myself in this matter better, so I hope the NDA drops soon.
People don't ask questions to get answers - they ask questions to show how smart they are. - Dogbert
I played the beta and my decision about this game is still unsure, but this is actually a good sign since my feeling about most mmos releasd in the last 5 years were just more negative. The beta should have taken longer to actually see more of the game, didnt test pvp for example. Some people in this forum should maybe lower a bit their expectations, but overall it seems to be a better mmo.
For PvE I am happy, but kind of disappointed the the Thieves and assassin's guild will not be in at launch. Those skills may impact which base class I pick.
For PvP, I do not have enough information to decide. I have not gotten to do any in the two beta weekends I played.
I hope people are joking when they say WoW killer :P
I think it will be an excellent game and they're handling the testing well by the look of it. I'll definitely be buying it.
You don't understand, I haven't seen a vote that high and with that many votes in that short of time on MMORPG.com in my current memory! My God those numbers are high! Even when I did polls on a game like AoC they were never that high.
I am very curious to see where most of these people are coming from? What games and if they are actually new to MMO games.
Only way to tell is if WOW keeps it numbers and you see ESO with same numbers, we'll see a new entrance of MMO players I think if that's the case.
I think some game from that company was the first computer-RPG I ever played, about 20 years or more back.
It was difficult as hell ( I never finished it ) - and it was great, called Wizardry or something alike. Some time later I think they came up with the first ego-sword-wielder. It was pixelish and ugly by today's standard, but a cool thing at it's time (called "Dagger-something" I believe).
I haven't tried their recent single-player-titles, because I am an old cat and have too little time, but I have high respect for veteran-developpers. I just fear that they go down the "main-stream-lane" with this game.
It would be a shame. TESO is one of the few games on the horizon I am keeping an eye on and a slim hope that it might be worth my time AND that they will release it (there are a few rare *really* interesting concepts out there, but mostly from few, rare Indie-developpers whose games the gods only know will ever see the light of this earth).
I don't know of a single MMOrpg these days that deserves the letters "RPG". They are all dumbed down grinds and time-sinks without soul, excitement and adventure. My hope that TESO will be different is slim (around 1% or less, TBH), but - as we all know - hope dies last.
I went from zero to I'll probably play after the first month...unless it's a disaster. I don't trust beta testers to give an honest opinion, but once I see what it does the first month I'll feel better about buying it or not.
PvPer and sandboxer here. Very unhappy. Didn't like the combat, the UI, the animations, the questing. I can't speak about the PvP yet but the PvE is the worst I have experienced in the last decade. Only thing that can make me give it another chance is if the PvP and PvP progression is as good as DAoC's.
I hope people are joking when they say WoW killer :P

This is just like a Hypemeter since people here can vote even they did not play the game at least on the weekend beta. Almost every game got hyped very high on mmorpg.com when you did watch the Hype-Rating on the webpage to insane ratings.
When GW2 gets a 8.6 Hype Level or the first 5 games in the list at similar ratings, I can only laugh about so much exxagerated results. We had also several votes in our beta group, wished I could talk about it and the results were quiete realistic and fair.
I did play the weekend beta and I did actually vote that I dont have enough information to make an opinion, I have not seen pvp and I have seen only a smaller part of the world. The beta testing was just very short.
For me personally there was one point ingame which did already lower my decision to 50:50, but thats just a personal thing and you just need to live with it since nowadays you dont have much alternatives. The game has definately potential
Overall the game will be probably more successfull than Swtor & Co. games, in addition there will be a strong crowd of TES game fans. It is one of the better mmos in the last years but lower a bit your expectations.

This is exactly how I felt. I HATE questing. The questing was the same old same, that I've done far too many times. It was a trail of fortitude to reach level 10. After that I couldn't stop. Do yourself a favor and do what you can to make it to level 10 1st night of the next beta.

I barely believe what I've been feeling... I know I didn't play Wushu for 2 days. I think that may have been a first. Idk how long it will last, but I can see 3-4 months of character development through AvA only. We'll see.

Yes yes, a whole entire 247 votes now.
its amazing proof of how successful it will be.....even though as many people are saying they will stay miles away from the game or are very much in doubt about it, it doesn't matter, its proof WoW is in jeopardy, even though WoW was based on a massively popular IP that dwarfs TES and that many TES fans are saying they are not touching this game.....proof I say!

they craziest numbers I remember were with GW2 polls almost everyone was 70% - 30% positive. It was nuts around august 2012.
I don't think that sandbox people are ever happy, are they? They're like the "More Cowbell" guys of the MMO universe. "I've got a fever, and the only cure is MORE SANDBOX!"
right, strange isn't it? With the dozens of awesome triple A player driven sandbox MMOs currently on the market!

I will be playing, short of anything shocking happening. Beta helped me make up my mind.
AMAZING!!!!! Look at those numbers.!....
Yes, i am going to play for sure - 41.8%
No, i will stay miles away from this - 23.5%
I am very much in doubt.. - 18.8%
I dont have enough information to have an opinion - 16.0%
41.8% say take my money NOW! while 32.8% are unsure!!!!
While ONLY 23.5% say they wont buy this game, YET THEY ARE THE LOUDEST ON THE FORUMS!!!
If a vote like that is this HIGH for GAME on MMORPG, You can BET THE BANK that its going to be the NEXT HUGE game.
32% that are probably usure are because of the very very VOCAL MINORITY (23.5%) who don't like this game.
100% agree!
I hope people are joking when they say WoW killer :P
