I don't know to many about this game, I want to play it and for sure I will bought the game. I'm not consider myself a PVP'er but I like to see PvP in any game I play .
PvP is bringing something else to a game, from my past experience a game without PVP will fail . Many people out there said they played early elder scrolls games even they didn't had PVP ... my question why they don't playing anymore, maybe Skyrim but I bet not many are still playing Morrowind , Oblivion, Daggerfall because this games are missing something ... that something is PVP. manny people out there will want to show off with their skills or with their loot from the hardest boss in the game , and the place for that is in PvP.
Take a look at LOTRO for example , they have 1 big expansion every year , after the expansion everyone is doing PvE , this is going for like 2-3 months after that people will just quit playing until the next expansion or going towards PVP , and LOTRO has a shitty PVP system but still it brings lots of players in , and all those players are subscribers.
The revenue from PvP is bigger than the one from PvE, in Pve you kill the last boss you win the game , you quit and look for another .....
What is the Elder Scrolls IP so well known for and what do the fans love about the Elder Scrolls? The great PvE. So why is PvP being focused on so much?! I don't understand why Zenimax is making the incredibly unintelligent choice of totally ignoring the core player base of the Elder Scrolls' gamers. Most of us didn't play the Elder Scrolls' titles for it's PvP because it simply didn't exist.
We played it for it's awesome PvE experience which hasn't really even been highlighted at all in any articles or news info for TESO so I can only assume that an incredible PvE experience simply doesn't exist within TESO.
It's poetic justice. Remember when all the PVE carebears said and even demanded that PVP will be a sideshow? Blazey, blazey blah?
Well, thankfully that won't be the case.
All we need now is for it to remain sub for years to come and all those people with their hands out, their hands will be slapped but GOOD!
I'm curious why people think pvp is the primary focus. It is a large zone but only one zone. In total content the game like around a 90/10 split between pve and pvp. There is even pve in the pvp zone.
There are level 50 end game pve options but not much officially revealed atm. You are in no way forced to do pvp. From the sounds of the direction of post-release content development it will also mostly be pve.

Going by your post you haven't played TESO yet.
Your last paragraph as one heck of an assumption. Just because the marketing guys have focused on AvA doesn't, in any way, shape or form imply that there is not also a very good PvE experience. I can't go into details due to the NDA, but lack of marketing on a given aspect is not proof of the non-existence of that aspect.
Perhaps they have (wrongly) made the assumption that fans of the series will realise that there must be an excellent PvE experience. That you must be able to just pick a direction and walk and find interesting things to do.
Bad marketing is not necessarily a sign of poor development...

That's only because I'm sure they are still making content and I'm sure PVE content would be included in that mix, but right now, from what I've been hearing and reading they are focused on PVP, its why it's in the limelight right now.

Only PART of the so called end game content is focused on pvp. Very few people (even beta testers as many systems haven't been added to test builds yet) know the ratio of content between pve and pvp post 50. Even when you hit 50 you still have only did 1/3 of the pve content; 1/3 of the dungeons and you only just unlocked adventure zones.
As with most mmos the pve after level cap is likely far more limited than most players would like. The company has tried to soften this by being able to adventure through the 2 other factions at level 50 difficulty and I have no idea how successful adventure zones will be. The DAoC style pvp is an attempt at add content independent of new zone and new pve story content which is always the downfall of heavily story driven games. It is simply there to keep players interested when pve content starts becoming consumed. It is still independent of pve so why does this bother people?
The ONLY way people could be upset over this is if pvp is forced upon pve players, especially the core TES audience. I simply see no issue here.
On a side note: Seeing how they added DAoC style rvr I sure hope they add a 3 faction dungeon tied into the pvp too

Well, given this is the first "Multiplayer" game I would imagine that there would be a chance to throw in PvP.
I don't understand why Zenimax is making the incredibly unintelligent choice of totally ignoring the core player base of the Elder Scrolls' gamers.
I guess this is you whining that there is PvP and a mmo instead of a single player game.
Most of us didn't play the Elder Scrolls' titles for it's PvP because it simply didn't exist.
I think everyone didn't play a single player game for its PvP captain obvious.
And saying you don't want this to end up like some WoW game because of PvP is such an ignorant comment. It's actually going to be the themepark PvE that makes it WoW like. So please stop posting ignorant posts that make you look silly. Just come out and say "I'm a carebear and I don't want PvP in this game." Then proceed to download LOTRO, or keep playing your single player games for the "PvE". If anything the PvP is going to make this game feel like Dark age of Camelot.
My honest advice to you is buy the game, get on the rides and enjoy yourself until end game, until you realize that there is no more content. Then you can quit and complain how themeparks come to a eventual halt. Even if TESO was a PvE exclusive, the rides will eventually run out and you will still run out of content. Welcome to MMOs, where you don't have the power to change the world, and add mods like you do in any other ES game. I played ES games and a fair amount of MMOs. I knew TESO wasn't going to stand up to it's single player experience when they announced the next in line to be a MMO. So if you don't like the models of MMOs, just do yourself a favor and steer clear of this one.
League of Legends isn't very popular now? And half of WoWs 7 million playerbase playing on PvP servers is proof that PvP isn't popular? You are delusional. Stop taking drugs.
Also the 48% is just the servers, the PvP realms actually have a higher population at the moment. The fickle PvE players leave as soon as they are done with the content, but the PvP populations stay strong.
League of Legends isn't even an MMORPG. Half of WoW's subscribers don't PvP, unless you have proof of it then I'm just going to say that's not true since apparently we're allowed to make posts that don't prove anything.
LoL is proof that well implemented PvP is very popular whether you want to acknowledge it or not. Also you can check for yourself how popular the WoW PvP realms are, they have the server loads available to the public. There are more full PvP servers than PvE servers. 48% of the servers on WoW cater to non-consensual / open world PvP players, that isn't even counting the players that choose to participate in instanced PvP from consensual only servers. If you think less than 2% of those PvE servers participate then you are only kidding yourself.
Also of course we are allowed to make posts that don't prove anything! Just look at your original post, claiming that the core playerbase of Elder Scrolls don't enjoy PvP. Personally I have played ES since Daggerfall and love PvP. Where are your metrics and proof that the core playerbase of ES doesn't want PvP in a multiplayer version of ES? Oh that's right, you don't have any.
Because pvp is a fun part of many mmos and adding a competitive nature to the game will keep people coming back even if there is no new content. It's fun to compete and battle against other teams and players. Also the game should appeal to as wide an audience as possible so they want to have everything and cover all bases. It looks like it's going to be a huge game with many aspects.
Not picking sides, I love both PvP and PvE. A personal observation I have noticed after playing MMO's is that the PvP player seems to play for fun, the PvE player for the rewards.
That's why I tend to PvP more. A lot of PvE players won't do much if they're not going to be rewarded for it.
I think a sandboxy, Skyrim with friends game, staying true to their fans would have been the best plan as well. I know they couldn't do exactly Skyrim with friends but they could have made it close enough that people would have subbed and been loyal to the game and the franchise.
It's too bad they decided to try and money grub instead. I agree it will hurt them in the long run. Like the dog with a steak in it's mouth that sees it's reflection in the water
Sandbox elder scrolls fanatics + PvP fans = a bunch of unhappy.
I can't imagine PvPers having the patience to sit through hours and hours of awesome storyline in order to scalp another player either. Just all around bad mojo.
That being said, I will still be buying and playing the game this year, i just secretly hope the pvpers hateses it.
I guess this is you whining that there is PvP and a mmo instead of a single player game.
This has been covered many times and directly from the developers. TESO is effectively a side project to the single player line hence why it is being made by a sister company and not Bethesda. It is not meant to be the next in line for their single player franchise. It is meant to be the "TES mmo". By definition this means it will be different no matter how similar they try to make it.
The single player game is a popsicle. TESO is an ice cream sandwich. Some people like ice cream sandwiches. Some like both. Popsicle only lovers may have to wait for the next popsicle. Some people may choose to wait for a creme-de-menthe and chocolate parfait.

PvP is popular in games that don't require a huge time investment or character building or loot gathering. Games like RPGs that focus on those aspects are the ones that seem to really struggle with pvp in general.
I pve to gear up a power full char for pvp. Unfortunately mmorpg devs have been removing this feature and thus ruining the synergy of the mmorpg genre.
Originally posted by iridescence Most people are bored with themepark PvE content as no matter how you dress it up it boils down to the same set of fetch quests, dungeon runs, raid encounters etc. Personally I can barely stand to play through another game's typical PvE grind. Now I think if they really wanted to capture Elder Scrolls they should have made it sandbox but they didn't have the guts to try that so at least PvP focused MMOs haven't been done to death recently.
elder scrolls games are not a sandbox, they are quest/story driven more similar to themeparks than anything. if they made it into a sandbox and removed all the quests and story, it would be a complete and utter failure and never live up to the brand, even remotely.

skyrim with friends wouldn't be a sandbox, though. unless you take out all the quests and stories and just put a bunch of POI's to explore.
that would piss off a lot of ES fans if that happened. some people here simply do not know what a sandbox is and throw that term around a lot.

For those that keep arguing that a sandbox is building the terrain and the landscape, that is a VERY SMALL part of a sandbox. The bigger part of the sandbox is the game play itself and the freedom to do as you want to without restrictions of game mechanics.
You seem to be fixated on this take out the quest and stories thing. You also can't seem to comprehend that the reason Skyrim is sandbox is the fact you can do most (not all) of these quests at ANY level. You can follow the stories or ignore them and the outcome is changed because the world changes based on some of these stories. If you take sides in the conflict it changes the world drastically. Many of the dungeon crawls in Skyrim have a quest when you enter them so you do have goals BUT you do not have to do these quests if you don't want to. However it is a added bonus if you do.
Crafting in Oblivion and Skyrim leave a lot to be desired but when you do get to high levels in these skills the armor and weapons are godly. The best gear is crafted and enchanted.
Again it is freedom to do what you want to do that makes it sandbox. With 300 plus dungeons and caves there is enough underground content to keep you busy for a long time and the stories and books are full of lore.
I suppose that if you just want to kill and level and kill each other noting better than a MMORPG that is OW FFA full loot so that is what TESO should be.
What is the Elder Scrolls IP so well known for and what do the fans love about the Elder Scrolls? The great PvE. So why is PvP being focused on so much?! "Zenimax is making the incredibly unintelligent..." etc. Do a bit of research on successful mmorpgs, starting with the golden calf of mmorpgs and work your way down. You'll find that pvp is integral or at least seems to be occurring, in successful titles. Secondly, pvp adds to the tiny bit of immersion in a title, because people, unlike AI driven pixels, are unpredictable. Regardless of whether or not it takes strategy to defeat enemies in a field of castles or not (I hope you got that far into the lore of this title), the fact remains that (a) unless you want a Walt Disney version of your mmorpg, combat happens. Now, if you want the potentially the most advanced combat possible (for the same of challenge), then you will gravitate toward a title that at least has some pvp offering. Pixels are always predictable because honestly, the AI is not advanced enough to give us anything less.
Secondly, my guess is that your pvp experiences are typical of the main stream. This means you never played level 50 mid rank realm vs realm vs realm in Dark Age of Camelot. No worries, most of America didn't either (thanks to Mythic's horrid ability to retain players due to changes and the follow up axe to the neck from EA).
What folks need to get in this title, is that pvp has been shit for ages. It's e-sport battlegrounds or someone griefing someone because there's literally zero to little challenge in the effort. If that's what you are used to, I can see your hesitation. Most people only see it as this sort of god-awful pvp. Blame the industry, because it has assumed we are all pot smoking morons that live in our parent's basements.
Give accolades to Zenimax, because they have the courage to step out of the box and offer 3 realms, and races that are different from each other in a meaningful battlefield experience. No more Hobbit vs Hobbit. No more guild war gangbangery, rather, large scale fights with siege weapons and castles to hang the flag of your realm/guild from.
If this does not appeal to you, thankfully, not only can you play the variety of Bethesda releases, you can take from a large grouping of games that do not take RPG at all seriously.
Well, Elder Scrolls "fans," this game takes place in a period known in ES lore as "The Interregnum." This is not only Tamriel's dark age, but one characterized by vicious factional conflict and myriad warlords.
The "Pocket Guide to the Empire" states this, for all the ES "fans" who think PvP isn't real Elder Scrolls. It also tells us that many warlords siezed control of the Ruby Throne, but "not for long." It was a period chronicled pretty much solely in the context of factional bloodshed centered on Cyrodiil and the throne.
So my question is this: in a Tamriel where the vast majority of the murky history that exists in lore is based around vicious, bloody, factional conflict, why the HELL would you make an mmorpg NOT focused on the defining lore of that time period?
All the Skyrim fans who trot out this tripe about what a "real" ES game is "supposed to be" apparently don't care enough about the lore of their "role-playing" game to consider that the mundane, trifling game mechanics they are arguing over are not what makes an Elder Scrolls game.
The Interregnum was bloody effing warfare. Did anyone READ any books during their travels in the world they are defending so zealously against ZOS's take on this time period, or were they all too busy being "immersed?" Oh, the irony.
It's a MMORPG in a war-based time period in Tamriel. Not having PvP that reflected that would shit all over the IP that detractors claim to "know" so well.

Well said. People love to jump on the joiner bandwagon of whining without actually knowing what they are talking about or putting in some research effort. Just because one has played a couple of the games for a few hours (or few hundred) doesn't make one an expert on lore. *sigh*

It is true, the older you get, the less patience you have for those who watch a Youtube video and from that believe they know it all.
Sandbox games are open world. Not all open world games are necessarily sandboxes. Skyrim is not a sandbox, it is a selection of different theme parks plopped down into an open world.
On the actual topic, I agree with those who say the people who think this is a problem need to pay more attention to the lore.

And now I am salivating ...
You stay sassy!
PvP is popular in games that don't require a huge time investment or character building or loot gathering. Games like RPGs that focus on those aspects are the ones that seem to really struggle with pvp in general.
elder scrolls games are not a sandbox, they are quest/story driven more similar to themeparks than anything. if they made it into a sandbox and removed all the quests and story, it would be a complete and utter failure and never live up to the brand, even remotely.
skyrim with friends wouldn't be a sandbox, though. unless you take out all the quests and stories and just put a bunch of POI's to explore.
that would piss off a lot of ES fans if that happened. some people here simply do not know what a sandbox is and throw that term around a lot.
Then it has a degree of sandbox.

*sigh*

Sheep or Shepard- Make up your own damn mind.
Peace is a lie, there is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
The Force shall free me.
You might be very dissapointed, when you find out that some pvE is required in this game.. And for those quests you need the voice acting..
