Dragon's Prophet should be #1, just horrible.

Sigh... and yet Neverwinter, the game which took Dungeons and Dragons & dumbed it down for the kids who rode the short bus to school, is nowhere near this list. Guess being P2W and designed for the mentally handicapped, on top of having a completely broken & exploited economy is A-OK, so long as you know who to pay off, eh?

I wouldn't mind so much if it weren't going to be held up as the 'standard' for PC D&D games for the next few years. Craptic, and this site, should be ashamed of themselves.

AN' DERE AIN'T NO SUCH FING AS ENUFF DAKKA, YA GROT! Enuff'z more than ya got an' less than too much an' there ain't no such fing as too much dakka. Say dere is, and me Squiggoff'z eatin' tonight!

We are born of the blood. Made men by the blood. Undone by the blood. Our eyes are yet to open. FEAR THE OLD BLOOD.

It's not on this list because it wasn't released in 2013. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with advertising dollars. *facepalms*

It's a shame there were far more bad games than good or even mediocre in 2013.

I see people mentioning MMOs like Neverwinter or Defiance belonging on this list, but have you actually played any of the MMOs on the list?  At least Neverwinter and Defiance have some fun to be had, but I have to agree with this list it's just a cesspool of bad MMOs.

I was looking forward to City of Steam too, but it definitely belongs on this list.

if CCP had not done dust 514, either we would have full walking in stations in eve, or else we'd be starting our backchanel politicking for WOD beta invites (what'll it take?  a kidney?  gotcha.).

THAT is the real fail of dust 514.  CCP had not one but two other infinitely more interesting things to do with the money.

RIP Ribbitribbitt you are missed, kid.

Of course worst of the year , no questions .It was mmorpg's fault to give 7.2 to Dust but it is not a surprise mmorpg had been  chosen SWTOR  mmo of the year also ,  dont trust mmorpg scores .

They are using ''promises '' as an excuse to  high score they gave to dust save face now ,funny . They did not want give bad score to an advertiser than .

The only game on the list I disagree with is Scarlet Blade.  Especially at the number 3 slot.  It's only there because boobs.  I don't play the game or anything but there were a lot worse.

Also Dust was never promised to be an MMO, only to have connections through gameplay to an existing one, and definitely is a lobby shooter at its core so while the game is crap I don't understand why it's on the list.

Finally, someone else who has a clue what an MMO is...

ok ok ok. we are missing a game that really needs to be on here. I MEAN REALLY. That game is FIREFALL!!!

And I could give a crap if one of the owners is a huge contributor to mmorpg.com  You guys need to stop playing favorites. Those developers are lazy, lackluster, and half completed a project they have been getting paid for for YEARS now!!!

They have dilivered hardly anything, the content is boring and the quests are HIGHLY repetitive.  EVEN WORSE THEY GOT RID OF PVP because they couldnt figure out how to make it work properly after 2 years of running it!!!!

Red 5 and Firefall have practically stolen from their fans and after people like myself purchased 100 dollar founders packages, a year and a half or more later, the game is still no where near where they said they were taking it, nor is the game developed.

There are spaces in the begining areas of that game that are completely devoid of NPC characters or usefulness, yet they claim they have opened up their little virtual world to palyers further, for questing and conquest!!!

At least these games you list here took money for a product they pretty much finished. Shitty or not. Red 5 and Mark Kern lied to players HERE on mmorpg, in venues and conferences, at E3, and have failed as developers.

If you don't believe me go play the game, its free. I GUARANTEE YOU you will notice three things immediately. I broken crafting system, repetitive and boring farming and quests, and a world devoid of NPC life outside one town!

It serves CCP right, who in their right mind produces a FPS mmo in the first place, they HAVE the World of Darkness IP and basically killed that project a guaranteed box sales cash cow, so they could produce DUST. Thats ok CCP no one would have played Vampire the Masquerade online I am sure you made the right decision. Morons.
  • AlomarAlomar Member RarePosts: 1,299
Only game on this list I care about was Dust 514, don't how to better explain my feelings than the article clearly describes "I expected better from CCP". Have to agree though, never thought it was intended to be an mmo.

oh god, it's not close to wow, trust me. After play it 3/4 the way to level cap it's neither WoW nor anything reminiscent of the original Ragnarok.

I still have yet to see anything negative about it. I just might have to download it now.

Actually, I can see that the writer of this article didnt play many of those.

About Scarlet Blade, if you go over the big boobs crap, be a little mature about it and check the game, the pvp in there was Fucking Awesome. And trust me when I know about pvp in mmorpgs. Specially, the mass pvp, which is pretty rare today in any decent mmo.

Sadly the business model they ran was crap, they just wanted costumers money in the smallest time window possible. Ruined the game. Please, if you want to write stuff like these, at least try the games you re putting down.

Because CCP claimed it is massively multiplayer  ?  http://dust514.com/  what do you see there ?

    DUST 514® – a massively multiplayer shooter

I dont get the logic that these people use to defend CCP  , and this is another while CCP says it massively multiplayer . Blame CCP  .

Wizardry was fun and bad at the same time I loved my time in it and it doesnt deserve to be on a worst mmo list of the year. There were a shit load of asian browser mmos that blew shit. Stopped reading immediately after this poorly created list.

NWO should def have been on this list, it's actually a new breed; PY2P - they should Pay You 2 Play it cause it's such garbage it goes beyond F2P

Its not a bad game. These guys here are afraid of boobies. I don't pvp much in mmo's but the pvp in this game is so much fun. I never thought i would ever say that. And they do have a male class you can play now.  Its a fun game and that's all that matters to me now. And by the time you reach lvl 20 your character is in sexy armor. Its really at lvl 1 where your in underwear but with completing mission and lvling you get armor to cover up. And really the boob thing gets old fast.

I gave up trying to figure out what their deal is with the game. There were so many games that had much much worse game play and offered nothing entertaining at all. People I know that play this game seem to really like it for it's pvp and end game. I can't really say much about it because I didn't like it but boobies!!! really shouldn't get you on the worst mmo list.

I have to agree with this one. I had high hopes for this game. But everything said here is totally true. All they are doing is grabbing the money and shutting off parts of the game. Nothing new has been adding at all. All they are doing is lying about whats coming soon.

Actually I thought the Secret World beat them on fastest.  Granted at the time SWTOR went F2P it may have been fastest by TSW went F2P the following month and they released a few months after SWTOR if I remember correctly.

TSW lasted < 6 months as sub only (start of July 2012 to 12.12.12) but it isn't F2P, you still have to actually buy the base game in order to play it.

Also TSW was a more earnest effort in making an interesting MMO

TOR was a lazy and greedy cash grab that didn't pay off in the end like EA thought it would

Tor was by no means a lazy cash grab, remember EA invested 750,000,000 dollars in buying Bioware and then roughly another 200,000,000 dollars producing that garbage known as SWTOR. This game truly shows that more money does not mean a better title.

EA hoping to get WoW subscriber numbers by throwing mountains of money at  a nerdy developer is a lazy greedy move. As well as straight up copying WoW (even the skills/tooltip info was the same) instead of trying to make their own game, despite that plan having failed in the past time after time again

and now the fastest F2P conversion in MMO history was the final nail in the coffin

All of those games belong except Infestation. Yeah they lied.. yeah the developers are scum bags, I've heard and read that but everyones lame attempt to act like the game isn't fun is screams to me of  gaming sites banding together to be vindictive. Honestly I only bought when it went on steam for 3 $ But boy the best 3 $ ever spent. The 20 metacritic score and bad word of mouth power just goes to show you how far a rumor can spread mis-information. Has anyone at MMORPG even played this game that likes pvp? I don't play it all the time but I have put 200 hours on it.It's dangerous exciting rewarding, nothing to make you jump out of a chair like fing k-style nvg then hear gunfire nearby. Farstryder on steam check me out if you dont believe, and no I don't work for them or get paid. It's hardcore and very forgiving but if my brother who's gaming experience includes only Madden, let's just say he's not a gamer, can get addicted after watching me patiently stalk someone for 35 min so I can ambush and steal all his hard work worth of gear than anyone who's open to that can enjoy. It's not pay to win and they have added crazy amount of content and streamlined uber amounts of land and area. If you don't like traveling 20 min to meet your friend just for him to get to get shot and have to wait 20 min to rez.... don't play other wise Infestation is alot of fun and a hell less glitchier than Dayz standalone at this point.

    Farstryder,

I am seriously waiting for the first person that works here to admit this genre is on life support and nothing good has happened in a really long time, yes i have left my house recently i am serious. I honestly feel like mugatu from zoolander when he is screaming about crazy pills because all of derek's looks are exactly like blue steel.

The worst MMO's and the best MMO's might as well be the same list its a bunch of wow clones that had to go F2P or they would be gone (yunno start with a subscription ) you get a bunch of people that wanna try out the 'new' game you start winning awards even though your population is dwindling, then you offer free mounts and hats or something......

Then you have the indie project's which many of us are getting all hyped up about and are always disappointed because they never live to to the hype etc.

MMO's cost too much to make hence why nothing innovative is going on...i could freeze myself in time and come back in 5 years and nothing will have changed.

    It was a good game.

Aeria had the perfect opportunity to have a cash shop that just sold virtual skin items, too, since that was the main motivation for playing the game.

Instead, they filled the cash shop with items that let you upgrade to give yourself a ridiculous and unbalanced advantage and promoted pvp.

It is really funny... This is the perfect example of a great game that was ruined by incompetent oversight and very little else.  Almost everyone who played it liked the core game.  The forums were filled with advice as to how to fix it (let money pay for skin, not pay to win mechanics) but Aeria ignored almost everyone.

I was surprised by how polished it was.

As far as MMORPG.COM and their review of it:  They didn't even play it, and even admitted it in several reviews before they edited things.  I think they are overly puritanical...
