It became "cool" to say it was good game in the past couple years because of all the "potential" it had (lol).
Just like it became "cool" to bully Brad just because he did this and did that.
I don't care about his personal life. That is HIS life and not mine. I do care about him being a major part in the most fun game i have ever played.
I guess a lot of older player feel the same, so ill just list my gaming history as a reason to back this guy.
1 game played for 7 years straight (Everquest)
3 games played for 2 years straight (UO, Neocron, WoW)
2 games played for 1 year straight (EQ2, Vanguard)
aprox 25 games played for 1-4 weeks (not gonna list all, you get the idea)
aprox another 50 games played for less then a day (including ESO recently)
1 game i always come back to (Everquest)
Some of those i played side by side obviously, but that is the general picture.
I want a new EQ, seriously. I am sick of the broad mass market and childish games. I am sick of not being able to screw up in a game, i am sick of soloing everything for maximum profit. I absolutly WANT downtimes to have a chance at making social bounds in my "FORCED" grouping dungeons.
I want something only this guy wants to make. So why in the world would i NOT back him? Because he has been drinking too much a few years back? I don't give a shit about his personal life as long as he brings back MMO into the MMO world.
MMOs finally replaced social interaction, forced grouping and standing in a line while talking to eachother.
Now we have forced soloing, forced questing and everyone is the hero, without ever having to talk to anyone else. The evolution of multiplayer is here! We won,... right?

"Bullying is the use of force, threat, or coercion to abuse, or intimidate, or aggressively impose domination over others."
Please show me where I bullied anyone? Nice try at an insult though. Brad McQuaid has a reputation in the industry. You can choose to ignore it if you want but it's not a good one as far as how he interacts with other people, spends money, personal habits, etc. If you think he just drank to much you're clearly clueless. I wouldn't care what the dude did in his free time either if he wasn't collecting money from people and responsible for it. If my neighbor wants to sit home and drink all day I don't give a crap when a business professional is out begging for money and has a history of alcoholism and substance abuse why would I ever trust him with my money? I've worked with substance abusers for a living at one point. I guess you don't really understand the depths they go to.
He's not even promising you EQ1. He's promising you a PvE world with combat as the sole activity unless stretch goals are reached. That's what he calls delivering you the sequels of EQ1 and VG. PVE COMBAT AND NOTHING ELSE. Queue up excuses of "Oh he's going to do the stretch goals no matter what" "They'll get more funding after Kickstarter" blah blah blah. If they could've got the funding they wouldn't be begging on KS in the first place. I didn't donate to MJ's KS either but at least he was honest and up front about what would actually be in the game. I'm just glad we live in the age of the internet where a simple Google search can expose people like this guy for who they really are. The dude's track record is full of his ass getting fired for performing poorly. He just got laid off from SOE last year for the 2nd time.
They have nothing to show you but concept art. No in game, no engine, no 3d models, NOTHING. I could go on deviant art and buy art and set up an equivalent KS. If I had worked on EQ1 and was responsible for the trainwreck that was Vanguard at launch would I now be getting money handed to me blindly by the boatload? Apparently.
You are fast to blame something as big as Vanguard on a single person. So i guess no need to state some facts, you would ignore them anyways. Have fun with your hate train :-)
MMOs finally replaced social interaction, forced grouping and standing in a line while talking to eachother.

HOLY CRAP THIS JUST IN MORE THAN ONE PERSON MADE VANGUARD! No duh! But he was the lead on the project so just like any leader out there he gets all the blame. Sorry VG was his baby so he can fall on the sword. You can't give him all the credit and praise and then shift all the crap on everyone else.
I'm not on a hate train lol. I love how Brad blows a whole game budget, does drugs, womanizes, treats his staff like garbage, fires them all in a parking lot, etc. and somehow I must have a problem? This is just entertaining. Like the sayings go "A fool and his money will soon be parted." "There's a sucker born every minute." Should i keep going? This dude is right up there with Jason Appleton from Greed Monger and that was a fun debacle as well.
I wish Brad the best of luck.Vanguard still is my favourite mmo.and I love the fact that it will be group based.a bit like vanguard.this will only target a select few and not the majority of people but if he gets it up and running I will be there playing.regardless of the screw up with vanguard.
I backed this project as well. This is no different then a fan favorite movie getting a reboot and being a success. problem is most of the people here want something new. well the next thing for mmorpg's is virtual reality lol.
Hey remember when Everquest Next released their information about the game and this community screamed we want Everquest 1 with updated graphics? Now I read people don't want that old school feeling. I wonder if majority of this community suffers from year round PMS.
Backed and those who were screaming about wanting EQ1 with better graphics better back this or STHU honestly. The only issue with Vanguard was from a technical aspect. It still has one of the best gameworlds, best classes, best crafting systems, best races and nothing like the diplomacy system exists in any mmo anywhere nowadays.
I am going to ask this question once more. For all those who hate Brad or bash him, what person or company do you feel is going to help the genre or get it back to its roots because I truly want to hear it.
There are no rising stars in mmo development that will help take this to the next level or get it back to its roots. None
So please lets hear yours because I want to know who they are and that includes companies. Because Zeni sure ain't doing it and while I think WS will be alright they aren't exactly doing anything spectacular either.
I am happy to back this game if at least to tell publishers that there is still interest in these type of mmos so that more companies can start making them. Think about it as helping the genre get the spark it needs again.
Just want to know where "forced grouping" comes from as it certainly didn't come from past games I played. Okay I have to admit never was found of EQ1 and while I started with Meridian59 it was Star Wars Galaxies that really made me fall in love with the genre, and yes there where things you could accomplished only grouped but there was plenty to do for the solo minded player.
I did however like Vanguard and felt it was one of the best group experiance's I had but still could do plenty solo. But ended playing because too much was group oriented and I simply don't have that much time to play.
So if this games does bring enough solo content I am sure many more old school gamers who might have limited time to play might get interested in the game.
Personaly I don't get these MMORPG of today that focus om a particular group of players. It has never been that way in the past as in old school games every type of gamer with different type of playstyle could enjoy MMORPG. Now most of it is combat oriented only with other things outside combat just slapped on. Hopefully some of the upcoming new MMORPG's might become something more.
Regardless the limited gametime I have I still want a deep MMORPG experiance with lots and lots of things to do both in combat as in none combat professions and/or classes. Don't care if it takes me 6 month or a year to cap level
Wish Visionary Realms Inc best of luck and hope they can deliver and maybe even change my mind.

See, i don't belive in blaming one person for something that he could not change in the first place. That's all.
Sure it was his baby, but how could he change what happened? Game was released almost a year early because Microsoft said "do it, now!" and they had the money. Nothing he could have done.

Some good ideas but does not sound as good a game as Vanguard which I can play right now for free. Especially turned off by the action combat and non-stop forced grouping.

Nothing he could have done, indeed... except follow the budget and schedule he was supposed to. And no, he wasn't 'just a little off'. Much like Mark Kern & Firefall, he wasted ample time & money screwing around instead of making actual progress. His ability to manage time, money, and people were practically nonexistent then and, unless he's spent the last few years at business school, there's little reason to believe that's changed in the slightest.
Please, try to get over your own ridiculous prejudices against big companies and see the whole picture. Vanguard wasn't a case of 'David vs. Goliath', it was more like 'Goliath was tired of David's shit and told him to get it together, David said "SCREW YOU BITCHES!", bought out Goliath's share, then went crying home to his mom after spending all his money on pizza & beer.'
But hey, don't let the facts get in the way of your 'really easy world' there, kiddo.
AN' DERE AIN'T NO SUCH FING AS ENUFF DAKKA, YA GROT! Enuff'z more than ya got an' less than too much an' there ain't no such fing as too much dakka. Say dere is, and me Squiggoff'z eatin' tonight!
We are born of the blood. Made men by the blood. Undone by the blood. Our eyes are yet to open. FEAR THE OLD BLOOD.
Kickstarter is a publicity stunt more than anything. They immediately back themselves with a 100,000+ then hope people get on the hype train and donate more. Brad looks really bored in this video, hangover maybe?
If they are planning to do it themselves they need network and server hardware, operations team to run it all... we are talking millions of additional funding.
Or are they planning selling it to SoE and having them publish it?
The vibe im getting from this kickstarter is pure for showing that a oldskool type mmo is wanted.
i want one, i want to back it but i just cannot.
right now my financial status is quite meh as a student.
And i just hate the idea of kickstarter, trowhing your money at something wich you might not even like at the end. 2017 thats still so far away, who knows what il be doing then.
If they had things to show i might back it. but right now its an idea. its the same thing wich many people on this forum say they want, but still its an idea its entirely on the drawingboard like camelot unchained i just cannot trow money at something i cannot see. In gaming terms that would mean a demo at least.
It's threads like these that really put the mmo community in perspective.
Here we have a group of people attempting to make a game that could potentially be a fantastic old school, in depth mmoRPG. You can piss on McQuaid all you want but he was an integral part in the machine that created the best mmorpg to date. Who else is gonna do it?
Not the EQN team. Look what they have in store for the "next gen". Disney console vomit.
How about World of Wildstar? Please...
Seriously... Most of you who are scoffing at throwing money at this thing will piss more away on bad movies, bad games & Schlitz Malt Liquor.
I'm not saying you should donate. But why attwmpt to sway the opinions & actions of others that are interested? Instead of crying for the crucifixion of B.M. & the failure of his staff, perhaps we should be engaging in a contructive conversatrion about what the game could or should be.
Meh... screw it... Let's just give the genre over to mobas & consoles... It is the future after all.
So no one wants to pay a sub to play a game that's actually ready to play, but they are willing to throw all kinds of money at a game that is just beginning development.

Disregard.
Yea, good points.. These guys actuallh ave experience in the mmo realm and there are a TON of worse campaigns you could donate to.
They've had a quite a few updates recently with classes like the Crusader class today. Brad mentioned they will also be going back and updating the Cleric and Dark Knight descriptions with more detail later today.
So far I've backed the $45 pledge and may go up to the $250 if things start looking up for the donation amounts. I hope this can reach the 800k at least.

People will say what they want, it has little impact on actual funding of this project.
I think you are taking it a bit personally.
My point still stands, how will they pay for the hosting costs (hardware, data center, operations staff....). What about CS? What about platform and billing systems?
Making an MMO is just a piece of the puzzle, launching it and having it available to the masses is just as important, and that second part takes a lot of $$$
Before donating 1c this should be answered.
He answered your questions right here, and he is taking it no more personally than those screaming for Brad's head are doing
Pot meet kettle much?
Any mmo worth its salt should be like a good prostitute when it comes to its game world- One hell of a faker, and a damn good shaker!
If they are planning to do it themselves they need network and server hardware, operations team to run it all... we are talking millions of additional funding.

Several tiers to this answer.
First, 800k is not all they have to make this game with. They're hoping the Kickstarter will get other investors excited about the project.
Second, it does NOT cost that much to run servers, and you can directly partner with some server farms. Since this is a small scale niche game, the expensive of the servers will be proportionally small.

I think they need to rethink their rewards rather than holding key parts of the game to ransom.
Offer better donation rewards and you'll get more backers, rather than saying you'll make an unfinished game unless you pass certain thresholds.

Disregard.
Yea, good points.. These guys actuallh ave experience in the mmo realm and there are a TON of worse campaigns you could donate to.
Main Game: Eldevin (Plat0nic)
2nd Game: Path of Exile (Platonic Hate)
They've had a quite a few updates recently with classes like the Crusader class today. Brad mentioned they will also be going back and updating the Cleric and Dark Knight descriptions with more detail later today.
So far I've backed the $45 pledge and may go up to the $250 if things start looking up for the donation amounts. I hope this can reach the 800k at least.
He answered your questions right here, and he is taking it no more personally than those screaming for Brad's head are doing
Pot meet kettle much?
Any mmo worth its salt should be like a good prostitute when it comes to its game world- One hell of a faker, and a damn good shaker!
