Pretty silly reason not to play a game if you ask me but you really didn't miss much. it is your standard repeat the same content over and over and then have a little bit of freedom at the end with dropped maps type of gameplay. The combat pacing itself is pretty poor and the mob AI is atrocious. Too bad because their take on potions and sockets on items etc are all fantastic, but if the gameplay stinks you won't get as many fans sticking around as you had hoped for.
The skill tree at first looks awesome but there are major keystones that are just better than others and you end up combining large branches of the tree instead of individual nodes. This means you do end up with a lot of people taking largely cookie cutter builds still.
Download , got to character select, logged out and uninstalled, why because it's a gender lock game.
I don't know about you people but I play RPG games to immerse myself into the world and in most cases I like to make a bad ass characters that reflects me as if I was in the universe, I can't get into a character that is a female because I am not.
Maybe i'm just an old school Alpha male and maybe times have changed but I play MMO's any game for that matter with character creation male, too bad because this game looked pretty deep.
Call me when they remove gender locking.
lol
Sorry, this might seem cruel and antagonistic, but I was immediatly reminded of the main "villain" from the South Park episode, "Make Love Not Warcraft".
Sorry, but that was the first thing that came to mind.

No big loss there. Diablo was great but is so dated now and D2 is by far the most overrated game in the markets history. There is a reason that most of the fanbase played moded versions of it instead of the online version.

There's that neat little "most" word. People sure love to throw that out there when trying to be extra right about stuff.

There's that neat little "extra" word. People sure love to throw that out there when trying to be right about stuff. It is just a word, we all use them. I'd suggest you stick to making useful posts or at least giving an opinion of some type. We all have them, we are all sharing them and we aren't all going to agree on them.

I just don't....uhhh...you can make.......the game is.....uhhh...... what?
This has to be the absolute dumbest post I've read on these forums in a super long time.
Firstly....there are 7 starting classes...and 4 of them are male.
Secondly...you can build a character to use whatever skills/spells you want...with endless combinations...regardless of class...or gender (wtf)
Thirdly...there is someone else in this thread complaining that the genders don't cater to non-gender specific roles...what the fuck? My main character in PoE is literally a lvl 82 infernal blow witch....she's female...she's a witch that starts in the intelligence based part of the passive tree....and I took a path to all strength passives....and use all strength skills.....
This thread honestly has to be a troll. There's just no way this is serious.

It must be a troll or someone that is just QQ cuz he/she sucks at the game.
Srsly, the only actual problems in PoE are desync and the fact that I'm godly unlucky (I hate RNG), the rest is from good to great.

Path of Exile is not a game based around aesthetics. It is not a game you are meant to roleplay in. Your character is nothing more than a walking suit of armor that you dress up with the bajillion items you find. Your really putting too much thought in looks.
Looking at their website (not playing the game, yet), how does a player choose an Intelligence based male character? Or a Strength based female character? Or a Dexterity based male character?
Sure your brute can cast spells, but in the character creation, ONLY a male can be solely based on strength.
Or m I missing something? (It's downloading now )
Youre missing something.
Nothing is set in stone, per say there is no classes. You can be anything you want.
Take a good look at the passive skill tree on the website or ingame. You can any path you want. make a 95 point build for starters, thats points for when you start endgame.
You can go a witch and go strength 2H mode if you so desire.
I don't know about you people but I play RPG games to immerse myself into the world and in most cases I like to make a bad ass characters that reflects me as if I was in the universe
You're kidding, right?
If not, you're doing us all a favor uninstalling every game you don't want to play. In fact, do this for us as a community: go to your nearest hardware store, purchase the biggest magnet you can find (obviously, affordability isn't an issue for you) and set that magnet right next to your hard drive. Once all the inferior data has been removed from your hard drive, you can remove it from your computer and go play hockey with it, being the awesome guy that you are.
The world would benefit from more guys like you. Bring back the stone age!
Retired: WoW (Cataclysm), SWTOR (pre-F2P), Champions Online, City of Heroes, RIFT, Age of Conan (pre-F2P) On Hold: FFXIV Heavensward, Blade and Soul, Firefall

LOL so you are missing out on a pretty fun game because of that ?
BTW this is an arpg like diablo 1 + 2 that both had gender lock characters.. guess you never played those either.. You are really missing out on some good games but there we go.
OP...not sure what you expected since you are told what you will play from the get go.
Which is the problem with this game...from the get go. Everyone can cheer this game til their faces are blue....wont change the fact that it's a lame Diablo clone. Worse than Diablo because it claims you can make a toon anything you want. True to a point...but who cares if you aren't having fun?

I take it you haven't actually played the game, or at least read up on any of the details regarding the equipment & skills systems. You can actually take any of the starting "classes" and spec them into anything you wish. Want to look like a frail witch but have everything invested in strength, heavy armor, a massive 2 handed weapon, and strength based melee abilities? Go ahead.
Passive skill / stat trees are universal, the same for everyone. Anyone can use any equipment type as long as you meet the minimum stat requirements. Anyone can use any skill gem type as long as they meet the minimum stat requirements.

I tested it from way back. Played it at launch. You can spew what you want about it to me and others....just a Diablo clone that add a bunch of fluff on top.

A lame diablo clone ? really ? worse than diablo because it claims you can make a toon anything you want.. then you claim that is true.. so how does that make it worse than diablo..
This is one of the best arpgs to be released for a very long time.. not lame at all.
But each to their own we cant all enjoy the same things...

I still think who you replied to is being tool-ish by calling it a diablo clone - his arguments are pretty lame too. But, it's not optimal to start with a witch and manipulate the tree to make you a warrior. The fighter classes start with bonus stats and at a place in the tree that benifits the intended class.
The character in PoE isn't supposed to be a representation of the player. They're real characters in the game world with set backstories. If you're that hung up on not playing a character of the opposite gender just pick one of the same gender options. Pretty simple. Are you the type of person who complains in The Witcher that there isn't a female version of Geralt? It wouldn't make any sense to have one.
If you really only want to play a male character, you still got all the options available. The 3 stats are strength, dex, int. For strength you can choose Marauder or Templar, for dex you can choose the Dualist, and for int you can choose the Shadow.
And that is only for the starting nodes. When you get higher level, it matters even less where you started.

Yep, and he can roll a templar for int as well.
I do think that choosing a particular starter area is better at least at the start of the game especially for a new player (or someone just starting a new league) who does not have good choice of gear in his stash. Just from a frustration point-of-view at the start of a PoE "career" it is probably wise to choose a class somewhat like what you want to make i.e. a templar, witch, or shade for an int-based character rather than go for a ranger or marauder straight away.
I think this based off of not having the right combination of gear, gems, and not being used to the passive tree. PoE is one of the few games on the market that refreshingly allows people to gimp their characters, so yeah. I would say get used to the game first before experimenting and deviating from the path.

I guess you can never play Diablo/ Or Diablo 2. Or Sacred. Or LOTR War in the north. Or Final Fantasy.
Such a shame.
Play for fun. Play to win. Play for perfection. Play with friends. Play in another world. Why do you play?

I was a little put off by this too, saying it's not gender locked because you can do a bunch of work arounds is bs too. It is gender locked.
But, it's easy enough to overlook for me due to the gameplay - so far it's pretty dang fun.

Playing MUDs and MMOs since 1994.
