Ummm....   Its Celebs that have acting experience that can make a character feel real and not shallow like you WANTED.

For the sake of argument, watch this video and tell me WHICH ONE of these ACTORS SOUND SNOBY?

I'm turned off by the silly celeb actor thing. It was annoying in SWTOR - such a waste of money. I even thought I could've done better on some of the voice acting there. Yeah, and I'm not even an actor, I just have a way better accent :P

I think it's very shallow that they're not using undiscovered acting talent. There are plenty of actors out there graduating college and killing themselves for these types of opportunities. I find it such a turn off when companies do the knee-jerk suck up to celebs. How about discovering some fresh professional acting talent instead of yet another celeb rerun?

and tell me what ACTOR is bad in your opinion, and link us to a voice over that you would like to see.

To me they all sound great and done with heart in them, and understanding their roles as the character they play.  Now this is what I like to see in seasoned actors, they do the research on what type of character they are before speaking something.

So you're saying that only those celebrity actors are capable of doing that kind of voice acting?

    That's where you're wrong.

I'm glad you mentioned the actor in that video where you thought they were snoby and sounded shallow....

Yes, also If the talent would be the same with a good non celeb, I would choose the Celeb, because I would rather have someone I really like and love over someone trying to get into the industry...  This really isn't a charity, its a game People are paying to play and I would rather have a CELEB any day of the week over no names.

Don't call me shallow hal either.  There is pleanty of upcoming no name games that no name actors can play in.  This game is a AAA title game and deservers Celebs who earned their place to be in it.

    Point made?

I fear hiring big names for VO might be too big a money sink in the development process when the money could go into rich ground breaking quest features. I won't be pausing my game to figure out which voice the person I'm about to run through belongs to.

Sorry man. I just don't buy the idea as much as I love story.

Please, elucidate why an MMORPG can't have cutscenes or voice-over dialogues. I would love to hear your arguments.

play SWTOR ,Defiance or TSW(main favorite mmo but I am skipp all those voice & cut scenes in game , but watched on youtube),simple it cant work in mmo games ... mmo's must to be interactive .... not videos for watching or voice for listening.

Did you say the same when WoW was hiring all the celebs to advertise the game?    That was a AAA game in its day also,  I think AAA titles should have some Celeb appeal to them and isn't going to break a bank....

In fact I expect AAA game titles to use some ADVERTISING and CELEBS to be honest.

And I suppose that's why SKYRIM, which was VOICED OVER BY some of the SAME ACTORS AS ESO,  was horrible in your eyes, even though it SOLD MILLIONS OF COPIES?

ESO voice overs are as high quality if not better then SKYRIM...   that says A LOT and can gaurentee you that it helped bring about the immersive atmosphere needed to be NUMBER ONE for over a year.

Well that couldn't have been cheap. Does it really help immersion to go, "HEY! That was John Cleese!"? If you can't tell it's him, then why pay the money? There are plenty of talented voice actors out there.

If in 1982 we played with the current mentality, we would have burned down all the pac man games since the red ghost was clearly OP. Instead we just got better at the game.

We all better hope ESO voice overs are consistently better than Skyrim's, because that game is a perfect example of how not to do voice acting.  Rule number one that Skyrim violated: hire *only* people who can actually act.  They don't need to be celebrities, but they do need to be competent.  Rule number two that Skyrim violated: don't have the same (obviously third rate) voice "actors" doing dozens of NPCs each, especially not when many of those NPCs have a substantial amount of dialogue.

Erm, you seem to be under the impression that those "stars" stole all the voice actor spots.

    They didn't.

They are playing a few specific high profile characters; the rest of the world will still need voice actors too. ;)

All those countless NPCs will all have less known actors voicing them, and for a couple of them it'll probably be the launch of a promising career.

Just look at the Bioware RPGs - they often have Jennifer Hale playing a huge part, but people still get to know and love those other actors through the smaller roles they play.

And that's where the new unproven talents get to make their mark.

Saying they should give the lead roles to some starting actors is like saying a movie director should pass on the opportunity to have DeNiro play the lead in favor of some newbie.

I changed my mind entirely about voice acting being a waste of money after watching the video on the site. When I heard Malcolm McDowell say the line "I don't need to kill you... I just need you to wish you were dead." I was sold.

Michael Gambon was totally funny. He was doing a very subtle dry British humor, thought it was great.

    Was worth watching him twice.

And OMG Kate Beckinsail, she looks better now that she did even ten years ago!

"I understand that if I hear any more words come pouring out of your **** mouth, Ill have to eat every fucking chicken in this room."

Because voice acting is EXACTLY what I look for when choosing an MMO to play.

Who decides that this kind of garbage is a good way to spend the budget?  Not anyone who actually PLAYS the game I would wager.
