No intentions on playing the imperial. I like the 5 days early since I have off the 5th day before, the 4th day before, work the 3rd and 2nd day before and I will have off the 1st day before and day of launch.
I have to work Saturday/Sunday/Monday after so being able to play when I am off is nice.
I plan on some of my friends playing as I know a few who were interested so being able to play in whatever alliance they are in is a bonus... even if it is the same I would be in anyway.
I am going into the game with no expectations and $80 is not devastating for me to eventually lose if I do not enjoy the game very long. I can think of plenty of things I have seen less use for that cost $80 or more... for example home phone service that you get to grab the bundle for cheaper, then the savings all wear off and your still stuck paying for the phone that you never use but get calls on from wrong numbers and telemarketers.
They destroyed alliance war, alliance pride and even their own logo(ring with 3 factions) before starting the game. Explorers pack is the worst thing that could happen to anyone one looking for pvp in cydorill with a little meaning. Faction lock was one of the bigger reasons for play the game, they sold that reason(faction locks) and alliance pride 'like daoc' for more than 2 years and now they kill it in 2 months before release.
Sad day for the long term pvp game retention power, and the worst thing its that is even before of the game realease or the game becomes f2p.
This entirely depends on how limited this offer is. If ultimately only a very small percentage of other races show up in other factions then it will fit lore (as people immigrate ... it happens). Also, as already noted, it is a faction war, not a racial war. There will also be only a percentage of the total population participating in pvp with great frequency as it is in all mmos. This will further lesson the impact of racial mixing within factions.
Example: I will be playing an Argonian. They HATE (and that is somewhat of an understatement) the Dark Elves. It would make perfect sense for some Argonians (many of who already live outside of Black Marsh in other lands) to join a different alliance due to their hate of Dark Elves. They are being called to protect Tamriel against the coming threat through the Hist (very likely) and joining any faction they feel they have greater leanings toward will answer this calling. They have NO reason forcing them to join Ebonheart Pact only within lore and not allowing them to join other factions would actually be more lore breaking.
I've made this clear before: my only caviat to all this is if too many players mix into other factions. It is unknown how many will buy these options and history shows special purchase bundles are a very low percentage of total game purchasing. I hope this holds true for it's impact in game.

Narratively speaking, this concern is only relevant in PvP, because none of those other players you see in PvE really exist.
Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. Through strength, I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken. The Force shall free me.

This offer wont show up again until the game has hemorrhaged its players and they need to make up for the drop in revenue. So, perhaps 4 months after release. it will definitely be in the games cash shop which will come with the F2P conversion.

Dunno about you guys, but to me this is not ok as a pre-order perk, and it also seems wrong lore wise.
Its wrong lore wise for it to be otherwise, alliances should never have been based on race type, that their allowing this in pre-orders must mean that the backlash from that never actually went away.
If you're the wrong race during a major war you're not going to be trusted very much I don't see it as "wrong lore wise". The pre-order bonus is stupid and pisses me off as someone who was guardedly optimistic about ESO. This shows they are willing to take a dump all over lore and immersion just to make a few extra bucks and almost pushes me off the fence to the "I won't be playing" side.
I'm disappointed they are backing off with the alliance locked races, I can see why a handful of people from certain races would fight outside their "home alliance" but just unlocking (which will happen shortly after the launch) the races completely means we see a stupid number of races fighting against their own homelands.
I liked the idea of unique factions with unique races in them, getting everything just mixed together (possibly) evenly makes me ask the question why are the factions even fighting each other then? It would have been better if they just made some above average in difficulty to obtain achievement which unlocked this feature for future alts you make, so there would be less of this mixing.

It does not fit well for all races but fits more for some than not. Humans have a history of mixing. The first Imperial emperor was a Nord (or at least raised by them and effectively culturally Norn). Many Argonians would NEVER ally with Dark Elves.
If you do not want to mix ... then don't.
The choices are:
1. Faction lock: This breaks lore as some races would situationally join other factions.
2. Open for everyone: This breaks lore as it would be too wide spread.
3. Restricted: this makes most sense lore wise ... your only issue is it is attached to differently priced bundles (a valid issue perhaps but not so much a lore issue. ZOS likely added this because of the synergy with lore ... but also to make $$$ )

During the beta time period, it appeared that a majority of people wanted to play every race in any alliance. Now they allow that for preorders. People wanted that to be more in line with the single players games. Now you can. Who cares about their reasoning. You got what you wanted. Enough said and STFU already lol.
Haha, you are all so caught up with the pre order perk of any race and any alliance, you missed this.
Not pre-purchasing unlocks the hidden class ( Lore Master ) which has the ability to change enemy players allegiance at will. This class was designed to follow the lore, but not following the lore that was never the true lore to begin with. Be sure to ride into battle upon your trusty rainbow unicorn mount because not following the lore is following the lore.

The BS is the idea that the lore states the races are separate, something that has been completely destroyed many times by actual fans of TES.
Its already been proven that the races were living in every land from the FIRST EMPIRE enslaving everyone and moving at times entire populations. By the time that Empire was destroyed and the Second Empire came around you could find almost every race in every major city. This game takes place after the end of that second Empire.

Indeed. Faction =/= race. There is nothing in the lore supporting strict race locks to factions. TES =/= DAOC.

read the damn EOS wiki, the whole game is based on this ...did you play the beta ? wtf
Factions are about Race if you actually did read about ESO at all. Why suddenly people want to define by themselves what EOS should be. The wiki is up since a long time I guess most did not even read it.
Just imagine. A bunch of Nords will walk around Summerset Isle and screaming: " Skyrim is for the Nords"

Been in 3 betas. Read the lore again and pay attention. Doesn't ever say that every person of certain races agreed with the alliances. It just says the 3 governments of 3 provinces come together in an alliance. Governments are not entire races.
There are already NPCs of non-faction races in other faction lands, NOT as enemies, but as quest-givers.
There are lines of dialog that specifically debunk the idea that alliances and races are the same thing. "The Dominion accepts all who wish to join our cause" is a line from the game.

And anyway, SCREW ESO lore, TES lore should trump ESO lore in all ways. ESO is derivative of TES, not the other way around. ESO does not dictate TES lore, quite the opposite.
PS: LOL you linked the single most UNRELIABLE source for TES lore. Try uesp.net or imperial-library.com - both far more reliable. TESwiki is a joke and is full of mistakes and omissions.

Everyone that has played TES knows from IN GAME LORE the stories of SLAVERY by the first empire, it was the very REASON for the uprising leading to the second empire. Not to mention the stories of the Dominions capturing human slaves as well.
Here, from the SAME SITE, READ IT. http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Ayleid "This slave, who eventually ended up at the now-sacred Ayleid site of Sancre Tor (Golden Hill), would receive divine inspiration, and direct divine help, to rouse her fellow slaves and revolt against their masters. The factions are not, and (in lore terms) never have been based on race. They are based on geography. The geographical areas in question have governments controlled by specific races, but not every member of those races follows those governments.

If you can play any race in any faction its more of a regional war, like country vs country.
I dont think that was needed but at least it took the headache away of trying to find a good race in the same faction as my friends.
Personally I think it would have been nice as a unlock after you complete all 3 faction areas, you can play as any race any faction
