To be or not to be

I realized ALPHA 2.0 will be release on Monday the 3rd. At this stage is it still beneficial to purchase ALPHA Access or should I get myself Beta. And in the mean time buy some other games.

depends how you feel about playing a buggy game with half working features. If you're ok with this type of thing and like being part of development then go for it.

I can't stand early access, and hate playing games that are " unfinished" So I wait.

Just don't buy it expecting a fully functioning game and then complain when it's not :)

  • I wouldn't pay a lot of money to do a developer's testing for them if I were you. The Combat Alpha looks great, but I'd wait until the whole game comes together and support them by buying the game when it's done or just by normal preorder.

Thank You both of you for great advice. So Beta should be fine for me in this case. I was very disappointed with X REBIRTH for the price paid. But ELITE videos looks amazing. Seems like its ahead of SC in development process.

You aren't just testing, you are also enjoying the game and you can report bugs whenever you want, Elite's Alpha is as polished if not more polished than many fully released games.

Also the Alpha and Premium Beta include the £35 lifetime expansion pass, that probably won't be available once the game is fully released.

I don't think it's fair to compare X-Rebirth with Elite: Dangerous.

Egosoft has never released a polished title and their games were always lacking wrt space-simming, they are a very small company ~20 people compared to Frontier, which has 240+ people of which 60+ are working on Elite.

Frontier has a history of developing high profile polished titles such as Roller Coaster Tycoon and first party XBox titles like Kinectimals, Zoo Tycoon and Kinect Disneyland Adventures and therefore have a mature QA department, since they won't allow buggy, unpolished first party XBox titles.

You are absolutely correct, I just meant how X Rebirth a highly anticipated game turned out to be a huge disappointment. I still enjoy X Albion Prelude more then X Rebirth.

But I must say I have never seen a more polished ALPHA then ELITE DANGEROUS. Best part is already coming out way ahead of SC and by the time SC will be out, ELITE DANGEROUS will likely have expansion. I do respect the FD for not a being a $$$ Cow. Until you told me about them, I didn't know FD has developed other titles.
