Old EQ Player Confused by the why?

maldayemaldaye Member CommonPosts: 1

Ok,

I've heard of the game and visited their website. I am usually a fan of EQ franchise. However, I am lost about this game purpose.

There is only humans (for now).

There is no combat (for now).

You build what you want in the world.

And then?

SWG had a purpose to its crafting and sandbox construction. In this game, what would be the purpose of my constructions aside from showing them off? It feels to me like its player housing from EQ2 turned into its own game. I loved my EQ2 housing, but it affected nothing and no one even came to visit.

I am not dissing the game  - before anyone flames me - I am just trying to understand its aim other than building things and showing them off. Where is the EQ part of the game beside being set in a 'Norrath' world? Where is the story and how does me building a castle or forging a chair affect the story? Where is the adventure outside of building a sword or armor and putting them on display with my name attached to them?

Is there anything else at all to do beside construction within a world? I don't want to be the guy that built a castle on top of a hill that no one saw or cared about.

It's because EQN is made of TWO games:

    _ EQNext Landmark = Minecraft
_ EQNext = The MMORPG with combat, cities, crafting etc.

I realize the title of the game is very very misleading.   Everquest Next is the actual next MMORPG,  which ill have quests and what not.

Everquest Next: Landmark  (aka Landmark).   Is a minecraft syle environment, using the technology you will find in the MMORPG  Everquest Next.

I suppose the things the games will have in common are the engine, the artwork, and the Voxel based environments (Voxels are the small squares).

Im assuming the confusion in the title of the game is partially meant to decieve you but more to draw hype to the everquest next MMORPG.

If your looking for a minecraft style game based in the everquest realm  Landmark is for you,   If your looking for a new MMORPG in the everquest world,   wait for Everquest Next.

Landmark is a free to play game, so dont feel compelled to buy a founders pack if its not a game your super interested in.

    This

Although I have to say that the name chosen is misleading.

They should have call it EQ Landmark (not EQN) to avoid confusion.

EQN Landmark is not aimed at MMO players specifically and it could be a big hit if marketed properly.

The traditional development model is more or less failing to keep up with the churn-rate for anyone not-Blizzard (and even there, it's... debatable.)  So if this is what it takes to break the dichotomy of "sit on your ass for 6 months waiting for new content" versus "new content: reskin of old content with bigger numbers," then I'm fine with that.

Let's be real here a lot of stuff players make will never be used by SOE at all. Letting players make their own content in a sandbox game is the huge draw people are willing to pay for.

I wonder how many people did buy a founders pack thinking they would be building their castle and riding their warhorse into battle with a dragon on some epic quest from an NPC  today ? I bet there are quite a few, which is a good indicator to the blind masses that buy every game that is launched.
