$100 Breakdown

grimfallgrimfall Member UncommonPosts: 1,153

This is what you get for $100.

1. Unfettered access to the alpha/beta.   Assuming, based on the timeline they had for beta/alpha release that there is only one month of Alpha, followed by one month of closed beta (a very conservative estimate), unfettered access to an SOE game costs $15/month so this is worth $30.

2. 4 unfettered beta keys (same length as above) = $60

3. Some high-end game crap (probably about the same as you would be able to buy with 6 months of station cash)

Total Value = $90

If the game is in Alpha for 2 months and closed Beta for one month, total value $105 (give or take some station cash)

If the game is in Alpha for one month and closed Beta for two months, total value $165 (minus some station cash)

Its a good trick by SOE, getting the players to first pay money to get into the minecraft clone app, and then build alot of resources SOE can then take and use in the "real" game.. ingenious really.

lol, yeah.  Input that would most likely have no bearing on their design decisions.  By and large, it's been a decade or so since any MMO actually listened to their alpha and beta testers.  At least the ones not the ones who know or are related to the devs.

    You make me like charity

Who will use the crap you make in the actual game? Or crap any other player makes? Out of all the pathetic, personal preference, dream constructions that players make for themselves, there will be like 1% of stuff made by real designers, that will be interesting, and appealing enough to be taken into the game....

I know. I cant even guess how many desperate kids will never get a paying job in game development as the result of this kind of manouvering - apart from the poor guy that has to edit out the genitalia architecture. Their salary wont help them much with all the therapy they will need.

5 Years time -Remember when we used to pay people to develop games? Now they pay us....lolololol all the way to the bank.

1% of 1000 structure is already 10 stucture they could use! (change are there will be a lot more then 1000) Some non-payed intern most likely has to watch them all and sort the usable ones. So instead of paying A LOT of money to designers they let someone else do it. Who does it just for the fun of it and most likely would love to see his building in the game. It's a win-win situation.

Beside that even something that looks crap, might not be all bad. They might not be usable for EQN, but they might inspire the designer to create something like it or use unique elements from it.

I was wondering about that. Good to know.

I may or may not buy EQN, but I do like to build things. Love architecture.

My only questions are on building supplies. I'd love to build a lot, from temples to ruins. I wonder how hard it will be to gather all the resources. I'm sure we'll be able to buy off other players in Landmark, but with Sony taking half of what you get, the margins might get pretty skimpy.

    Once upon a time....

It will be a lot more than one month in Alpha....they weren't even going to open up Alpha until the end of February but they did it early (not because the game is ready but to get opinions on game direction).

I don't expect this game to launch until the end of the year.

Yeah but you filter out most of the idiots and can actually offer feed back which may get implemented

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.

*Slow clap* Bravo. I really was hoping to see someone use a more obvious stupid "Clone" claim for a game. For years its been the stupid "Wow Clone" BS, which sadly some people seem incapable of realizing how dumb it is. Now we finally have a clone claim that most 'thinking' individual will look at and go "Um.... they aren't at all the same minus one feature that links them."

Perhaps this is a sign of the term "*Blank* Clone" Finally being shown as a very stupid claim and people can realize games can be in the same genre and take elements from one another without being a clone. How long I waited for this day for such a blatent bad example of a "CLONE" claim being made and its finally here! There is hope for the future that such ignorance of calling games clones will perhaps finally find some sort of end!

$100 for a few weeks of testing?.... not thanks.

I would pay $100 for testing if....... mmmh no, i would not pay that for testing a game. That is silly.

Don't forget, with that $100 purchase you also get a head-start early access to the game, making it possible for you to pick out prime housing locations.

Does that $100 for EQ:L give any access to EQ:N? I am assuming not, and have not found anything indicating that, but was curious. I am not all that attracted to EQL, but would be interested if they were tied together in some way other than sharing the name etc.

Oh well if you say all the stuff you get in game is crap it must be true.  I have some guildies in EQ2 that have been running around with the EQL flag strapped to their backs for sometime now.  They obviously don't think it's crap so it must have some value.  And when you think about all the money people spend on virtual outfits in games putting zero value on those virtual items is really ridiculous.  You might not value them as worth anything but that doesn't mean the market doesn't.  After all I put a value of $0 on a big mac but that doesn't mean McDonalds has to give them away to sell them because plenty of other people value them higher.
