It does everything better than every other mmo currently on the market. By the looks of things also better than any MMO coming in the next year or two as well. The only one that seems to be so vastly different and interesting is The Repopulation, here's hoping.
"The King and the Pawn return to the same box at the end of the game"
I still have a heck of a fun time playing this game. I do usually tend to stick in games for long periods of time, I have been here from beta, so for me, it is a winner.
That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!
But to me, WoW is far from "King of MMO's". Numbers are numbers, looks good.
But to me, a good game comes down to what I feel about it. Not if it got big numbers it can brag about.
Also, I find people who's braging about this and that kinda anoying.
So yeah... To me the dicision whats a good game or not, comes down to the individual in question, not braging numbers.
But congrats WoW. Thanks for keeping my games free from the young ones.
It's not just numbers, the game play is also king. So many mini style of game types, so many great features, what you have to say? No other MMO does it better.

I totally agree with you on the fact that whether a game is good or not is a very personal thing, but i don't see any bragging in this thread, the link is a link to pure facts about the game, no bragging, no one-upmanship, just plain and simple facts about what has been a very popular game in the years that it has been around.
It highlights how widespread the influence has been across the world, how much work has gone in to making it and keeping it relevant to it's player base and to me just how much support goes in to keep it up and running given it's size and complexity. I personally think that regardless of whether you like the game or not, you can't help but be impressed with some of those stats and whether you see them a bragging or just the pure facts does not take away from how impressive they are.
It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays.
While there are naysayers who would like to say differently. Thought I would share some interesting facts about our beloved World of Warcraft, Also why no mmo on the market can touch WOW!.
Yes! Yes, Blizzard gave us the best mmo we have ever seen. Nothing has touched it popularity-wise from 2004 through 2013. Nothing will ever again reach the stratosphere of gaming goodness than what World of Warcraft accomplished. We must bow down in awe at the advertisement that we see here. It is truth, and the truth will set us free! WoW is the McDonald's of mmo's. Yes, oh my heavenly cerebrum yes, WoW is just like Coca Cola. Not since Jell-O have seen anything as all encompassing as Azeroth! Why even, dare I say, even peanut butter pales at the "wonderfulness" of Horde vs. Alliance, GASP, I said oh my gee, I said it! Better than peanut butter...
So what...Before the steam engine there was only wind power or horse power or foot power. People laughed and scoffed that a contraption like a steam engine would EVER take the place of God's own breath in the form of wind power. Yeah well once uh the steam engine became the NUMBER 1 way to travel in the "Victorian Age", someone dared to claim that we could fly. Now, well, that's just going one step too far. NO MAN CAN FLY. Ha! Well now once we got into the air, well that's the "cat's pajamas", huh? I mean it's the "ultimate" way to travel. But, guess what? Some absolute nut-case makes a claim that we can leave the stratosphere altogether and...and..GOOD GRIEF, GO TO THE MOON! Absurd!
Yeah, Blizzard timed it perfectly, they borrowed ideas from the very game the top devs at Blizz were playing, (EverQuest), and made it a world-wide sensation. One hundred million humanoids have logged in and traveled Azeroth! Super wonderful and jiminy cricket, Batman, nothing else will EVER be as good as orcs, humans, night elves, dwarves, gnomes, skelly-people, cow people, jahmmin' trolls, snooty fruity blood elves, space goats, and so on and so forth. Goodness gracious, great balls o' fire WoW's end game philosophy of raiding and PVP e-sports are just way too next-gen to ever be out-done...EVER! I mean, HALLELUJIA! <looks up and smiles> History has a funny way of overtaking the "norms" we tend to get used to, doesn't it? Just ask Michael Dell and all the other guys and gals that have changed the way we think and communicate. Mike Morhaime knows this as well anyone in this genre we call Massively multi Player Online Games.
It goes as it goes, and something will eventually come along to stupefy our children just as we were with WoW. It is the nature of the beast to improve, gain knowledge, and improve on a current idea. It will happen.
Just watch, stayed tuned...

I did not mean for it to sound as facts that they were braging or anything. It was only my personal opinion. As I see it as "Hey people, look how good we are. Why not join the train?" kinda thing. But ofc, the numbers are impressive I cant deny that. And with the upcoming expansion with reworked models I can see that WoW will still go strong, with the graphics updating to more today-graphics.
Anyways, I should have mentioned more closely that what I wrote was only my own opinion of things.

I don't know how you could look at even just the title of this thread and not see childish fanboy bragging. Sure we all know WoW has sold a shit ton of copies and a lot of people love it. Literally everyone posting on MMORPG.com knows that. Cut and pasting Blizzard marketing material on here is just dumb.
You want me to pat Blizzard on the back for making a very lucrative game? Sure, if I was looking to invest in an MMO in 2004 WoW would've been an awesome choice. It probably still is even in 2014. Since I play MMOs though, not invest money in them, the only test that matters to me is "Is it fun to play?" and for me personally WoW failed that test.
I am waiting for titan ,not going to level to 85 to play new content .
if I could jump in without the shlep of levelling to 85 I would.
biggest is not always the best.
well actually, you'll get leveled to 90 if you buy their new expansion. plus there is good possibility that they will have the ability to purchase level 90 characters in the cash shop at some point
Wow that brings back memories.. I took my first girlfriend ever to see that movie. I thought she badly wanted to see it. She assumed I wanted to see it. Later on, it turned out we both didn't want to watch that crap. Lessons learned lol.. And now back on topic..

What makes WoW the "King" is the fact that anyone with a computer, access to a method of payment, and half a brain can play this game. It is accessible. It dropped at the right time. People wanted something new. Everquest, while a great game in it's own right; wasn't for everyone. Some may argue that WoW isn't for everyone, and they're right. However, Blizzard did something right when a late 50s grandma who has never played a MMO can install the game and start playing with minimal difficulty.
I'd like to see someone do the same research on Everquest. Considering how old the game is, the data would be mind blowing.

Since choosing to decide it by popularity is an arbitrary (but probably the most important condition to a dev/publisher) criteria, you could easily pick other criteria such as complexity of design, features, or even how much it encourages player socialization, which is what most people are doing when trying to justify why their game (EVE in my case) is better than WOW. Which is why you have to clearly define what you want to measure before declaring anything as the best.

Why does McDonalds serve billions? Because there's a damned McDonalds restaurant in almost every city of every country in the world.
MMORPGs are a totally different beast. You can log in any of them from your home, they don't need to have a store in every city.
You are oversimplifying, management of company, price vs value, marketing and likely a dozen more factors all come together to explain why McDonald's is so popular.
Same thing with MMORPG's, there are many factors that make WOW what the titan (pun intended) it is in terms of popularity, not just it's availability.
In fact, when you think about it, WOW was one of the first MMO's to target running on low end computers (prior to this most MMO's expected the users to have a $1500-2500 PC to run well) so in many ways it mimic'd McDonalds by making it accessable to everyone and was likely a great contributor to it's success.

It's also not the best analogy to begin with. Contrary to current popular comparisons, people really don't consume MMORPGs like they do their hamburgers.

This is what I was getting at earlier. It's a weak analogy.

Never said anything about quality, nor anything about how much money WOW makes(neither does the link). Perhaps reading comprehension is in order. Thanks though for the input!
You said it's the greatest. That's a statement of quality. Also, if this post is not about quality, then what is the point? That it is the most popular? What "naysayers" are you talking about? The ones that deny cold hard facts about subscription numbers?
This is what I was getting at earlier. It's a weak analogy.
Yeah, most of them are.
It's not a weak analogy. It's basically saying that popularity doesn't necessarily equal quality. As others have pointed out, the details don't matter. It doesn't matter if there's a McDonald's on every corner. It doesn't matter if they put lsd in their burgers. The point is that there are factors other than quality that determine popularity.
Originally posted by MMOGamer71 With billions served, McDonalds is the best food ever !!!
Ah, the old McDonalds argument. It works if WoW cost much less and offered less quality to get those high numbers.
However, WoW costs just as much (if not more) as other MMO's and still is king. Do people choose McDonalds over a juicy steak? No. They choose the better meal. i.e. WoW is the Steak "For Most People". Obviously there are different tastes. That's why there are more games available then just WoW.
I know I won't change your opinion, but at least I took a shot at showing how stupid the McDonalds argument is.
