In an interview with DigitalSpy.com, producer Takeshi Miyazoe has reconfirmed Namco Bandai's hope that the PC version of Dark Souls II will be out within "weeks, not months" of the console release. Miyazoe indicated that extra time for the PC version is needed to fine tune specific features like resolution and key mapping. Namco Bandai has acknowledged that the original Dark Souls' port to PC was somewhat "rocky".
"The PC audience was an eye-opener for us," Miyazoe said, referring to the port of the original Dark Souls.
"We did do the PC port based on the fan petition and fan feedback. We were really happy for that, and we did our best to try and support the game as best as possible.
"But at the same time, we did realize the PC fan base and the PC audience really have high expectations for what a PC game should be. So for Dark Souls 2, we'll do our best to try and fulfill the basics of what the game should have."
The console versions of Dark Souls II are due out on March 11th in North America and March 14th in the EU.

So... 3 to 7 weeks after consoles, methinks. Not bad, if I'm right.
Also: any news about porting first game (DS) to Steamworks, before it dies in July, along with GFWL?
Hopefully this time it'll actually work without needing a controller....

You mean, like, controls that are actually smooth and that work? So you know, "the basics"

Seconded. I am playing PC exclusively partly because I find console controllers highly uncomfortable to hold, let alone play on.
I have heard so much good about Dark Souls in general, I really wanted to try it out - until I read that the even the PC port was practically unplayable with mouse+keyboard.
Here's to hoping that DSII will have a serviceable control scheme for PC, so I can finally get in on the action.
So I only have to wait a couple of weeks for a bad console port instead of months? How nice of them. Seriously though, I think DS1 was the worst console port ever, right up there with the early Resident Evil games. But who knows maybe they will actually make it playable on a PC this time.
Note to Developer.
Yes I have a high resolution monitor.
Yes my video card can render faster than 30FPS
Yes I have lots of keys on my keyboard not just a few buttons and thumb toggles
Yes Vsync is important to PC gamers.
Sometime I need to stop playing and don't want to repeat the last 20mins of gameplay when I start again
That's just a starter list but should give you something to shoot for.......
You find a gamepad uncomfortable to hold? I've never heard that before. People get uncomfortable holding things like new born babies or a 10lb bag of cocaine....stuff like that. If you find it awkward because you're not used to it, THAT I totally get :P
I didn't want to play Dark Souls for the longest time because I didn't want to use a controller either. But I got bored enough one day and broke down and bought one for the hell of it a few months ago. I sucked with it for the first week but it was totally worth it. After a graphics mod (it's actually got some great graphics underneath the consoleitis) and some practice Dark Souls turned out to be one of the best games I played all year. It reminded me of back in the day, when developers weren't afraid to make a game frustrating and hard as @#$%/.
Honestly, the gamepad has come in handy too. It rekindled my interest in fighting games, racing games, platformers and I can finally fly the gdamn planes and helicopters in games like Arma, BF and PS2. Real good for gaming on the couch as well.. I'll always consider the keyboard and mouse king, but for some games a controller is just plain better.
It's physically uncomfortable for me. I tried it for weeks, and all it got me was inflamed joints and cramps. I know that I am fairly alone in that, but, yeah, sadly cannot change my arms and hands.
Yah; I didn't bother trying to use a keyboard + mouse as I already had a controller, but I can't imagine dark souls 2's controls being any better with how the controls simply are set up. Heavy + Light right/left hand (including some needing to be held). Item use button; switch left hand, switch right hand, switch spell, switch item. Then you need sprint key, potentially a jump key (if you don't wanna tap the sprint key to jump like it worked on controller).
The other issue was, some things were VERY context sensitive. Like kicking required like movement + RB (Aka light right hand), or certain attacks would do different things based on what way you were moving, or how fast. It's kinda hard to do all that with a wasd movement scheme. I mean, it's why a lot of people don't play racing games without racing wheels/a controller.
As far as resolution/v sync/so on go though, yah, those need to be in, and not via a mod. As far as keyboard controls? Well, if they can come up with a way to make them work and be usable, I'm -all- for it. But I can't think of anything myself, really.
