What should I play with my brother? Diablo RoS or ESO?

sagilsagil Member CommonPosts: 291

I've heard negative reactions to ESO, which is a surprise to me, since I enjoyed the closed beta. These people have not even joined a dungeon run or climbed to end game to see what it's worth.

Diablo is a game I come back to now and then. And this is what my brother is playing atm (he also bought the expansion early). Now, I don't know if I'll enjoy it, there's some good things that they are taking away and adding that I thought was awful/were missed. Although, it feels so uncreative. I'm the guy that cares about my characters looks, and I want to be different from others. The customization reminds of the asian grinders that only have one body type and face for the class. Maybe in the future, when they add more classes (and maybe customization?) I can feel like I am a person in the game and not a duplicate of someone else.

I liked ESO's combat, aiming and stuff. I like how it feels like a living world, whereas Diablo doesn't have that kind of atmosphere feeling. Honestly, I see more numbers in my head when I think of Diablo than ESO (because it has an atmosphere).

So as you can see I was easily going for ESO... but now the hard part... it seems my brother really likes Diablo 3 for some reason and if Diablo RoS turns out to be good, I might have to wait another month to buy it (because I am buying 2 copies of ESO or Diablo RoS).

What happens if he doesn't like ESO after awhile? Who do I play with then? :O It's a sub game so can't find many people in my circle that would play it with me.

Try to play Diablo PTR with your brother, which has the new difficulties (level 1 playing @ Torment is pretty cool) + loot 2.0. That gives you a small taste of patch 2.0.1

ESO will go f2p in a year or two.

I'd say grab ESO, and just join a solid guild, so even if you're brother decides to bail on it, you still have folks to party with.

"For the Angel of Death spread his wings on the blast,
And breathed in the face of the foe as he passed:
And the eyes of the sleepers waxed deadly and chill,
And their hearts but once heaved, and for ever grew still!"

"IF" playing with your brother is the most important thing then Diablo ROS is obviously the right choice. "IF" you just want people to play with then you will be fine in TESO as it favors large guilds for AV3 PVP and you will be wise to find one. If you are not interested in such then you shouldn't be buying it anyway.  Just because other folks do not like the same games you do is no reason to bail out on what you like.

    dates:

    D3 ROS   March 25th

ESO       April 8th   (2 weeks later)

you will probably play both games eventually,  and D3 ROS comes out sooner

Diablo 3 is a steaming pile, so my suggestion would be to slap some sense into your brother and get into ESO.

Peace is a lie, there is only passion.

    Through strength, I gain power.
    Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.

    thanks for the correction

even waiting a few days stinks -- when you'll probably own both games longterm anyhow

Diablo reminds me of playing slot machines at a casino....

They are two very different types of games with barely anything in common except that they are both fantasy.

You'll have to choose which one you like best, or talk it over with your brother.

Or play both like I intend to do. image
