ESO Console vs PC Version

seldinseldin Member UncommonPosts: 196
Well I have decided to buy ESO.  What I am curious about is the differences between the console and PC versions.  I have played the beta on PC but not had any interactions with the console versions.  I own both the PS4 and Xbox1.  I know I should probably get the PC version but I really want to play on console for something different. Is there much difference between the three versions of the game.  Thanks

If I had to guess (and I am) I would think the PC version would be more customizable in terms of UI and graphics. Most games look better on a PC as long as it is powerful enough to crank up the settings. With the console you're pretty much stuck with what they give you. I like consoles for racing and sports games but for a MMO I would never touch a console unless some innovations are made. For example, FFXIV on PC and PS3...I found the PC version looked much much better and the controls and UI were better. I just used a controller on the PS3 and in my case it left much to be desired.

Please note that my opinion is entirely subjective and your mileage may very well vary :)

Well to my understanding Console ESO wont be out until June... So might as well roll with the PC version to see if you like it, and its worth it. The game is easily set up for console, you could probably get a controller and try it on the PC version to see how movement, switching abilities and weapons works.. I for one would love to try it on both.

Im gonna wait till I played eso on the ps4 (Beta) then i decide which version I will buy, pc or ps4!

Tried the pc version, it felt like its made for the console! Im bored of playing mmo's on the pc! So lets hope the ps4 and xbone will change this!!

I dont expect graphics to be that different and other game features will be exactly the same, and also on pc you can play with a console controller

i personally will allways choose PC, the keyboard and keyboard chat are a neccesarity for good community building... And yes you can connect a keyboard to the consoles, but if youre the only one with a keyboard connected , it will not add much..

the only reason to play it on consoles is if your pc is not up to running the game at high settings...

PC = moddable UIs. I hope it gets implemented also in the consoles though. The graphics are of higher quality in PC as compared with consoles. Lastly, player base. Most MMO fans are using PCs.

PS4 = See above, but with lower quality graphics as compared with PC and no moddable UIs.

XBox1 = see PS4 but you need a microsoft live gold account to be able to play multiplayer on top of the subscription fee of the game.

    I haven't seen a footage of a PS4 and XBoX1 gameplay of ESO though.

We couldn't possibly know, considering none of us have had a chance to play the console version.  I'd assume, however, that the difference between the games are that you play with a controller on consoles.

    PC version will have mods.

Unless microsoft has changed their mind about their service restrictions, xbone will only be able to play with other xbone players. Which would mean a small community comapred to pc.
I hope I'm wrong and console players will all be on the server with pc players, but I don't expect it.

Since its coming out on PC first I will play it on PC, cuz I dont want to wait another 2 months.  But I will use a gamepad on PC.  What I am really hoping is that they give me the option to change control schemes to gamepad like in Final Fantasy XIV where its the same as it would be playing on a console, and I loved the gamepad controls on Final Fantasy XIV over keyboard and mouse any day and on top of that you can have a lot more active skills on hotbar in that game so it shouldnt be too difficult for ESO devs to set up gamepad scheme.  I hate having to use third party programs like xpadder because its still not the same as having native support.

Will PC and Console player be on the same servers?

because i am a medicore pvper at best, but i can beat a medicore console pvper any day ;-) So that would be a plus for me lol.

On a more serious note: If both "worlds" are on the same servers i really do hope most of em will get a keyboard for chatting. Or ill have to join a  "PC-only" guild i guess,... just can not imagine how community is supposed to work without a keyboard. And i am not going to hop into TS sessions with every stranger i see roaming around.

MMOs finally replaced social interaction, forced grouping and standing in a line while talking to eachother.

Now we have forced soloing, forced questing and everyone is the hero, without ever having to talk to anyone else. The evolution of multiplayer is here! We won,... right?

PS4 hardware is nowhere close to what this game requires to run on max. It will probably take a lot of work just to make it run well on medium, and even then i don't see how they plan to have Cyrodil work on consoles at it's current scale.

I just downloaded Final Fantasy a Realm Reborn to my PS4 just for the hell of it since its a Beta test. As soon as I tried playing with a controller, I was like hell noooo lol. Fortunately that game allows for a Keyboard Mouse set-up, but even if you plug one in if you have a gaming mouse like the Logitech G600 (which I have), then you cant put the drivers on the PS4 to configure the mouse...so then you are forced to become a clicker and thats not me..even for PVE. I want to see the screen, not icons. So even though for that game its looks damn beautiful with virtually no difference with my relatively strong gaming laptop (plays Witcher 2 on high with no issues), there is no way I could ever play an MMO on a PS4 due to the driver issue with the keyboard and mouse.

    There Is Always Hope!

The graphics in ESO are consolized anyhow.  The only benefits to playing on PC are going to be mods for the UI and better anti aliasing and a keyboard for chat.  Maybe the console version has voice chat?  I dunno.

Graphics wise though the game is allready pretty dumbed down visually to run on consoles.  In fact that was my first impression the first time i was in a beta weekend like 6 months ago.  Immediately on logging in i thought to myself, "this must be coming out on consoles too".  You can just tell, between the crappy animations and lack of graphical detail.

There'd be a definite upside to playing in the living room on a big screen and i don't think you'd be losing much graphically.

Actually the recommended system requirements for ESO are almost exactly the PS4s hardware.

    http://elderscrollsonline.info/system-requirements

[ PC RECOMMENDED SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS ]

    • Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit or Windows 8 64-bit
    • Processor: Quad Core 2.3GHz or equivalent processor
    • Memory: 4GB System RAM
    • Hard Disk Space: 60GB free HDD space
    • Video Card: Direct X 11 compliant video card with 2GB of RAM (NVIDIA® GeForce® 560 Ti / ATI Radeon™ 6950 or better)
    • Sound: DirectX compatible sound card
    PS4:

    • Main processor:
      – Single-chip custom processor
      – CPU : x86-64 AMD “Jaguar”, eight cores
      – GPU : 1.84 TFLOPS, AMD next-generation Radeon based graphics engine ( Modified Radeon HD 7870 GPU Direct X 11 Support)  Which is basically like a GTX 560
    • Memory GDDR5 8GB
And again like I said, if PS4 will be able to play Planetside 2 at its Max Settings which is a sandbox with a lot more people in it (2000 Max) than a Cyrodil campaign with Collision Detection and Bullets flying around everywhere, than ESo will be a cake walk for PS4.

Well said.  Graphics are pretty damn good on PS4 on everything I've played.  It's actually about 2x as good as PS3 in my estimation.  MMOs usually dumb their graphics down anyway to handle the amount they have to render when there are umpteen people on the screen at once.  Consoles will look plenty good and be just fine.

I tell you this :D If you play on console and I am making a group for some dungeon and you cant even type words and senteces, no way I am keeping you in group :D

I still think consoles are not ment to be for mmorpg.s If teso was for pc only, it would have better UI, better graphical options, less instancing and few other key things .. Sadly its also for consoles, so yea :D Same as FFXIV .. Not saying I will not play teso, but I will put it down they day Wildstars early acess starts :D

And every console player or pug has keyboard or using voice comm in mmorpg right :D I guess you have damn huge fate in teso community. But anyway, doesnt change my mind about consoles not being made for mmorpg, but they bring bigger profit to developers so why not sacrfice some games elements or dump them down if it brings more money right :D

Agree regarding the made for console feeling. They try to dress up the limited on-screen commands as "now players have to make a choice as to what skills to use!" as though this is some magical innovation.

It is nothing of the sort. It is dumbing down the available skills in a battle.

This may come as a shock horror to the limited skill set promoters:- But you know, we had to think about which skills to use before. Just because they where present on the screen didn't mean we used them all at once in some double-fisted keyboard mashing.

A greater choice meant greater options. If you can do more, then the players or npc's you are fighting could also do more.

But unfortunately we are now restricted by the lowest common denominator, and are shovelled this you have to make skill choices rubbish.

Get rid of the quickslot wheel for the pc - just have a separate skill slot bar on-screen. We don't have to push this button to get to that button to get to another one to etc etc. I really hope an add-on comes out that does this.

Similarly - we don't need this skill set swapping to bring another set of skills up on screen. Again, that is just pushing button A to get to button B..... For the pc, put all 10 (+2) skills on screen. That at least would add some sense into the pc UI. Again, I am hoping an add-on appears asap for this on the pc.
