Yep, good news. Now they should put it in for pvp too
They explained that collision in pvp would be detrimental because of the lag it would add to the servers.

Now if they'll get rid of the explorers pack and replace with something not noxious or just remove race faction lock entirely if that's what they want I'd be willing to give this game a chance.
Simple, just do a pre-order and you wont have any faction lock with races. You can choose whatever race you want and whatever faction.
Completely missed my point.
You want no faciton lock, well there is an option for it. Donno what is your point.
No I actually like the faction lock what I don't like is them hyping it up as a feature then using a bypass to move pre-orders and maybe to sell as an addon pack on their webstie after launch(supposition not fact at this stage.).
Either keep the faction lock intact as originally intended or get rid of it entirely.I find what they are doing instead to be ethically repugnant personally and I will not support a publisher/developer who engages in such practices because they will probably do so again int he future.
I don't care how good the game is,I found a lot I like during beta,I can find other games and other things to do rather than support something against my moral code just to play.
If this is true then zenimax are the greatest company ever. They have listened to the players more than any other devs. Originally there was no first person view, people asked for it and zenimax put it in.
Now if they'll get rid of the explorers pack and replace with something not noxious or just remove race faction lock entirely if that's what they want I'd be willing to give this game a chance.
And for every person like you who decides to buy, ten people leave because they can't play with their friends/lovers who wanted to play a different race.
You pretty much already had the option. Just talk to the NPC that wanted you to find the other NPCs and say you were ready to go now.
From what I understand, once you are done with Coldharbor, you spawn in the main city and then you can talk to the NPC to take you back to the starter lsland. I would just for the skyshards and other skill points.
I guess it is cool that you have the option, but I will do it anyway.
When I was in AoC, I wish I could have skipped Tortage and gone out into the open world instead. So I understand.

I won't skip the island not even with alts. I found DC starter areas too fun to pass . And don't wanna leave the sky shards behind. I did the same in Skyrim, I refused to install the live another life mod because going through the introduction with either Hadvar or Ralof makes the immersion better, specially when you install the mod that let you marry these NPCs. Hard to choose, but oh well. Hadvar won my heart. Ralof is my secret lover though.

Never stopped many playing any other MMORPG with race locks in the past.Just takes some compromise and discussion between those friends and family.

I find it really suspicious that with all the negatives this game received for it's starting experience you would brush it off as invalid.
And where are you getting that interpretation?
That just means I've always felt the starter islands were fine and I'll be doing them. Chests and resources are not instanced so there is competition for them. The more people that skip the starter island, the happier I'll be when I'm collecting mats and gearing up from chest loot.

I just glanced a post on reddit that talked about the starter island being removed on the PST.

Starter islands no more? by GrimdarkRosein elderscrollsonline [–]inx_n 41 points 5 hours ago Collision detection with NPCs just got put in. You can also now skip the starter islands and go straight to the first city in your area. You can port back to starter islands if you want. Mob difficulty increase slightly starting at level 5. Buffs and nerfs to class abilities Fixed an issue where many abilities were not properly obeying line of sight rules.
Interesting move from Zenimax Online, i am curious if this is a consequence of the negative reviews the tutorial islands got.
Mandatory. The starter isles probably shoo'ed 40% of all Beta testers away who not played the dominion.. very good decision.
There is nothing wrong with the starter islands, Zenimax needs to be careful who they listen to. Allowing people to skip content because they are too lazy to put in the slightest bit of effort is not a good direction. If people would quit the game over something like this they are going to quit over any little thing and are not worth the effort to lure into the game.
I didn't take part in any beta, but I've already pre-ordered the game. I like starter and tutorial aeras in all kind of games (I also like to read game manuals), so I'm sure I will play trough it when the game launches. I just hope that they don't remove those zones completely. I have nothing against option to skip those zones, of course.
Adding collision detection (if only in PvE) on the other hand, is a great news.
Collision detection (CS) is HUGE for pvp - it means that tanks can still do their job. High hit point toons can effectively block a doorway, with healers behind supporting, making it harder for a zerg to just immediately penetrate. That's just one example. Tanks can get in the way of a DPS train as well - that's pretty huge - saving healers, etc.
CD adds an entirely new and realistic element to pvp strategy.

This pretty much.
How long will it take when they start hating their new starting area ? maan this 2nd island is boring ,allready played it once and now i must do it with my alts.

CD also affects performance.
ZOS has a choice. Massive 1000ish player battles with no CD, or 50ish player skirmishes. (numbers are made up)
ZOS seems to have chosen massive battles over CD. Maybe one day someone will create tech where CD can be server side and not affect performance. I don't think we are there yet.

That is an entirely different kettle of fish and is essentially not possible at this time. If they did it you should expect a vast change in the number of people allowed per campaign.
maybe im in the minority here but i enjoyed the starter island. Not crazy about them making this optional. I really like what they created with this game and would hate to see forum trolls dictate the direction of this game and &^^% it all up.
The starter areas were already optional, right after you enter them you did a quest that took five minutes and you had an option for the main quest that was something like "(OPTIONAL) Tell *** to leave/evacuate early."
I guess this was not obvious enough for some people.
Even if I didnt like the starter islands I would still want to just finish all the quest there and find all the skyshards. So might as well just do those in the first place instead of going back later. And I dont know why people want to skip the story in a rpg

well, these days, gotta do MMOs ADD friendly I guess
while i agree its silly to skip the starter island no one is saying you HAVE TO, so if you like them by all means run them, i dont completly blame people for not wanting to run them every time, if you ahve made a few chrs and want to get to the main area so you can run with your friends then it makes ence to want to skip the are instanced that they cant get into.
i honestly will prob run the starter areas, but then i dont see myself makeing alot of chars, but then i have never been much for altism.
F2P may be the way of the future, but ya know they dont make them like they used to Proper Grammer & spelling are extra, corrections will be LOL at.

Agreed. Best to just take your time and do the starter islands, ARE PEOPLE REALLY IN THAT MUCH OF A RUSH TO END GAME?

Well it was either make starting island more "fun" or make an option for those that want to skip it.
They went the easier route considering it's not that far from launch day.
