By now everyone must have accepted that there will be no housing in this game at release...
But if they ever add housing after release, what kind of housing would you prefer..

A FUTURE RPG TYPE TES HOUSING:
Make a whole new zone that is layred on top of Cyrodiil, have it be a future built Cyrodiil and let everyone LIVE in the CYRODIIL ZONE. and the empereror of the month can LIVE in a CASTLE for the rest of their game life.
Have porches people can go out on and look down at the busy Cyrodiil streets below. Have everything a future Cyrodiil would have at its peak in the TES story line.
I dont think they intend to be doing expansions.... they just want to keep pushing content for the subbed fee..

Oh yeah, they will, they might be once a year or more though. They talked about expansions being the wider world of Nirn in the future.
Also Majority of those who votes NO to housing, is PVP and we have a lot of them coming to ESO, since it pleases PVE and PVP this time around.
I read somewhere (sorry dont remember where) that after release they will implement a housing system. While i would prefer an open world area like SWG, it would have to be a separate continent, there would be no way to implement it in the current world. People would be parking houses on top of features/dungeons/etc. SWG had ALOT of open space which wasnt used.
So realistically, i would like to see either a separate continent or zone, but with fully customizable housing like in Skyrim.
Instanced House like EQ2 is best, imho. I don't care about the outside and strolling down the street. Give me doors in the actual city that loads to my house.
I hate the housing where you have to go to a special zone just to get to the housing. I also hate people putting up housing wherever they wanted.
I am not really certain if they stated that. So far they said nothing really about their business model regarding expansions.
And another thing is that TESO will most likely have expansions. Question is if those will be:
- in DAoC / WoW style. One big expansion every year or two years bringing many stuff to the table that players may not really like.
- EvE style. Free expansion every few months. Brings perhaps less content but iterations are also smaller and released more often. Easier to fix if it happens that ppl don't like some change.
I don't really think that they should go GW2 path with just content patches from time to time - that would just not work. Also every TES since Morrowind had expansions of some sort. I don't see why TESO would be different since that way marketing is simply easier.
Back on topic. I voted for instanced zones however then I realised that it is megaserver of theirs that we are talking about. Phasing could be handy here. Or perhaps if it's not possible to do it straight in the open world then some sort of world instance having only single zone (just like starter zones) but then when player approaches certain areas then everything around them is at their disposal - same as stuff they have in open world already just this time only one player / players of only one guild allowed to see and interract with same things in the game.
+1
Instanced housing completely and utterly destroys housing for me.
Non-instanced housing in zones like vanguard (so the environment can be maintained and you don't end up with buildings all over the place dotting the landscapes) would be best imo.
Actually they can have just a couple houses and with phasing it won't look like 50 people are standing on your doorstep... I have to admit, their phasing system allows for some pretty decent potential for future content releases.
Voted other.
I want to see predetermined plots out in the world like in Asheron's Call. Make housing rare and expensive. Not everyone will get one.
Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!
Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!
Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!
Whatever type of housing they implement--and I'm not in a hurry for it-- I just hope it has some purpose other than just being able to decorate it to look cool - I personally find that a total bore.
I don't like everything that WOW is doing with their housing system (Garrisons) in the new expansion, but at least they're giving it game play value by instancing a whole player-controlled village with NPC followers, quests, loot, crafting, etc. They're not just trying to duplicate some favorite housing that has existed in other MMOs before (as most people in this thread are proposing) but thinking outside the box and making something new.

How do you know the majority of those who voted no is PvPers?
I voted no because I would rather see something else. I believe a housing feature is a pretty time consuming to develope. I would rather see this time spent on something else. I won't say what, I will leave that to your imagination.
A housing feature is nice to have, but not very high on my priority list.
That would be extremely rare... since we have a mega server....
I really love the idea... espescially in combination with the EQ2 instanced housing, but with the mega servers its not going to work..

Best and only acceptable housing system in a 2014 MMORPG is open world housing... of pre-existing buildings.
Instanced/phased housing/neighborhoods? Not MMO enough- maybe if all the open world housing is bought up, or as a hybrid mixture.
Total free form "place houses out in the world" ala UO/SWG? I've been there, done that, seen what it does - no thank you.
I think it is Bless? that is having housing kind of like they did housing in the Fable video game series.
You get to buy the houses and shops in the established NPC cities.
Open world?
Check.
Doesn't create urban sprawl and player "hub" death?
Check.
Revitalizes low/mid level areas of the game with steady population of players?
Check.
Only real barrier is level requirements for zones... if they coupled the above with automatic level downsync it'd be perfect and very Elder Scrolls, IMO.
Kind of housing system would work great in a GW2 where each zone is always "relevant" due to downsync.
But yeah, mega-server kind of wrecks that... so next best thing is instanced districts so you can at least still have neighbors.
There are other things necessary to make housing work...
-people need to be able to craft furniture
-there need to be trophies out in the world to put up in your house
- (but most important) other people need to have a reason to want to visit your house
They espescially need to think about the 3rd point....

DAoC didn't have instanced housing zones.
It had a housing ZONE, but it was NOT instanced.
Instanced neighborhoods, mechanism to upvote well decorated homes and then "tour" other neighborhoods to look at highly voted homes/neighborhoods.
And guild ownership of entire neighborhoods.
Shared housing between all toons on one account.
And ability to share ownership of housing with others.
Community contests and prizes for "parade of homes" etc.
Why make something so overly complicated and artificial? Just make a noninstanced housing zone.
I voted for:
Open world housing zones like in Vanguard .
