You've been around long enough, Sovrath. To know that you can't bring logic into a discussion like this.
but you know ...Sometimes one thinks "oh sure, maybe if I point out the obvious someone might take a step back and realize that it doesn't have to be all "sturm und drang".But then again, some people just feel more comfortable residing in that sort of "place".
Wait, so they released a bunch of really anticipated changes and expected no one to get excited or hyped about them? Why release the info at all then?
What's the point of a "next" beta iteration if they don't patch the client and server?
You do realize that they did patch the client and server, right?
Just not the one we're playing over the weekend, the Closed Test got all of those changes, which is pretty much what Zenimax said, they never were intended for for the weekend test.
They are just hammering the server to try and make sure the new code will hold up for a largely anticipated launch in a month. They will probably have more beta weekends all this month testing out the new patch stuff if it gets good reviews in the private servers.

* touches finger to tip of nose *
Makes no sense and only creates anger , discontent, and costs them potential customers that were expecting something different.
I don't exactly understand what reddit is but it seems that "someone" that wasn't Zenimax (and if I'm wrong about that please say) posted some changes. which were summarily taken down and then reposted.
Zenimax then said "no, these will not be in the beta they are still on the PTS". They then said "this beta is a stress test".
and yet, once again, "the players" did this to themselves.
pretty much this. You summed it up perfectly and he knows people whom know people whom are cousins of people whom have grandma's of people whom are in closed beta who say the game has no content at all end game and is way out of balance. Trust me its far from the truth and hes listening to some angry net nerds whom probably are not in PTR closed shard and just love to start drama in the hopes people like himself run with it and spread it all around.
I actually stopped playing the beta in frustration because of the huge amount of bugs. And that's on the starting areas, which one might think have received the most amount of testing.
Quest in Khenartis Roost to rescue the mage that is possessed by some spirit? Bugged. Can't progress past the part where you have to deactivate some traps (can't activate the lever). Can't progress into the Mistral quests until you finish this one btw.
Quest in Bethnik to kill the 3 ghosts (aspect of hate, fear, etc)? Bugged. At least one of the ghosts simply won't appear, and there are dozens of people standing there with the same bug. Also stops progress, can't get out of the island unless you finish this.
Quest in Mage's Guild where you go into Sheogorath's realm? Bugged. Haskill never opens the door.
Dark Anchors? Bugged, all 5 I ran across.
Even some skills and passives were bugged as well. The medium armor passive that's supposed to give me 7% crit (since I was wearing full medium) didn't actually give me anything.
And did I mention there is no way to report bugs? This only proves that this isn't an actual beta, but a marketing demo so people can try the game before buying (which I'm grateful for)
It got to a point where all my characters were stuck on bugged quests... this feels like 1 year from release, not 1 month.
Problem is they hyped for 2 weeks a bunch of changes to ESO that the fence sitters were excited about, then they put NONE of them in the game.
If this weekend was all about stress testing AGAIN, then they should have flat out said something like.
Guys we need to further stress the servers, this is not a state of the game beta weekend something like that.
Instead they talked all week about all these changes they made to placate the unhappy people and then they did not put them in game.
It was a retarded decision this close to launch.
Even though I like the game and will be playing, I am not so fanbois as to be blind to stupid business decisions, and this is one of the big ones.
The hell being raised in game and on some of the forums over the same old bugs we have now had for 3 months is the kind of issue that costs market share.
And the kind of decision that should have someone in senior management pink slipped out the door for the millions he just cost them.
Let me stop you right there.
The devs DID NOT hype the changes. The beta testers hyped it, leaked patch notes, etc. The devs only acknowledged certain changes. I don't recall them ever hyping CD, bug fixes, or balancing. Maybe I missed it.
Edit:
And they DID flat out say this is just a stress test and the current build is not being released this weekend. This was common knowledge for over a week.
This is a billion dollar company who are lifting the NDA on their flagship product one month from launch. And yet somehow, fanboys are able to say ridiculous stuff like "this isn't the latest build, it's a stress test, the PTS is much more stable" even though that is pure conjecture on their part.
You seriously think that Bethesda and Zenimax are going to intentionally release a buggy build for public scrutiny a month before release, with untold millions in investments riding on the PR for this game? Go to Google and search "cognitive dissonance". You are experiencing a delusion. Literally, your brain cannot process objective reality, so badly do you want it not to be true.
There is NO. WAY. ON. EARTH. that they would lift the NDA for an unstable build this close to launch...on their website they are encouraging people to blog and livestream, for crying out loud! And boy is it unstable. I reload my ui 50 times a day. No, that is not some hater exaggeration. 50 times a day.
I know its a stress test but here's to hoping that they fix the AvA by having all their additional servers ready.. its completely unplayable with all the lag and when they open the floodgates to the masses.. its going to be much worse.
Pushing another beta weekend without a client side patch to show some progress this close to release was a moronic move.
Or they are fiddling with the numbers and trying to add different amounts of people and require the "stress test" to do it.
Or we can look at it your way and think of it as "things that they need to do to always keep me interested" as opposed to doing the tests they actually need to do.
come on.
Which, by the way, considering this is the exact same build we played 3 weeks ago - bugs and all - it's much, much smoother. It might be the same build but the infrastructure in the background got some hefty upgrades...and it shows.
what is this "smoother" you are typing about
i've not had the issues with broken main story quest (2 places on noob island) in previous beta - playing with a friend that is not only on friends list, we were grouped and guilded (couldn't be more tied together than that) and we still got defazed or whatever it is since one or the other of use would disappear - heck, even my sorcerers minion disapeared and reappeared with regularity - and you would think previous client or not the constant need for /reloadui would have been taken care of by now (and dare i mention the CTDs?)
so once again we have a MMO that is suppose to release in a month and there will be one of these "miracle" patches?

Accept it is whether you like it or not.
so...
are you a hater because you can't accept that this isn't the latest build (are you saying that the Crowd control/being able to skip the starter area "build" is NOT on the pts? And if that build is on the pts then isn't this, by definition not the latest build?
I can't say if the pts build is more stable but neither can you say it is "not" stable. A bit of Schrodinger's cat huh?
This is a stress test:
Attention Worldwide Testers! The Beta Test is designed to stress test the North American Megaserver.
So whether you like it or not, whether they "should" be having a stress test, whether they should be doing something else, the fact is that they have decreed for good or ill that this is a stress test. Again, are you a hater because you can't accpet that for good or ill this is what they have said it to be?
The only conjecture is whether the pts build is "better" and I suspect that some actually do know and I also suspect that there is no way to really prove whether one's claims of them being pts testers are true or not.

Strange you guys are having such a great experience when the chat is alive with all the bugs, glitches, and crashes others are having.
Not to mention half my guild can not even connect to the game for some issue with the launcher.
But hey maybe you are playing a special fanbois client the rest of the world is not privy to.
You guys do not need to fabricate untruths to try and make the game look better than it is..
Truth is they are 28 days from launch and can not even get server load issues under control.
Not to mention they have not even open tested the release build.
Oh and as far as stressing goes, stressing an old bug filled, unoptimized build gives them very little real data.
They need to be stressing the latest client build the pre-launch build so they can use the last month they before launch to get that build optimized and ready for day one patches.
I would imagine the devs know what they are doing better than u and your friends. You might want to try some patience.
Right, I get what you're saying. No need to get all defensive. I can almost see shining armour and a white horse cresting the hill. So, they communicate often via reddit. They released some info. It was sort of stupid to do that and then think that players wouldn't get excited about it and expect to see it. And then murmur what it's not around. Their latest reddit info said they will have an updated build the next beta. I don't think anyone did anything to anyone (sort of melodramatic thing to say). I'm just making some observations.
There is nothing about my post that is defensive. I have clearly spelled out what has happened and have frustraiton because "certain gamers" seem to constantly be crying and wringing their hands becasue things didn't go their way. If anytibng, your "knight in shining armor" quip seems a bit "defensive" as if the notion of pointing out that some gamers seembent on drama is something of a "white kniight" issue.
So you are saying that this Mr.Bluebird person is indeed a Zenimax representative and not some player who posted this info? We know this beyond a shadow of a doubt?
edit: and now that i"m reading through all their stuff it seems that this was posted and addressed specifcially to closed beta testers. Not to the open beta testers. so then where is the hype that Zenimax is supposedly creating when they are addressing closed beta testers

If you are going to run a stress test, you don't intentionally use a buggy build to ensure more stress! You test the release candidate, especially if you expose that test to the public on your multi-million dollar investment. As far as conjecture, yes, I am conjecturing that a billion dollar company is not going to lift their NDA, a month from release, on a known buggy build. But I got some news for you: there is some difference between pure conjecture and a theory based on all the available facts. You know, like gravity or weather. Damn, people will say just about anything to cling to a straw of hope.

And right back at you.
I've played better builds than the current one (providing they were different "builds" and not just them futzing around with things trying to get more and more people in an area and thus causing issues) and worse.
As far as "you don't intentionally use a buggy build .. etc, etc" I doubt they sat there saying, hey, let's use this piece of crap build and waste an opportunity. And if this is the same build from last time then I can tell you the last beta was extremely smooth for me with very little bugginess. So where are the actual issues coming from it's the same build as last time?
Seems to me, and I'm not a developer, that if they are fiddlign with player numbers, trying to get more and more in an area, that that could very well be causing many issues. Wouldn't you say? So, again not a developer but shooting from the hip here with a bit of logic and reasoning, if they have a quest and if many players are accessing that quest at the same time then couldn't that affect whether or not that quest info gets sent to the player smoothly? If all that quest information is being accessed by 100 people and they then see if they can triple that, volume then might that cause a certain level of bugginess? Maybe that's where all this "bugginess" is coming from?
The thing is none of us really know what is going on. I'm not saying they are going to sail into launch day with smooth sailing. But given the many beta tests I've been a part of, seeing some quests get fixed and others hit the trash, not being able to even get into the game to getting into the game no problem to getting kicked a few times this past weekend, it's obvious that they are fiddling around with numbers or fiddling around with something on the back end. I suspect you are not a developer but would love to have a programmer or developer who is used to working with networks chime in and perhaps shed some light on the subject.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."

Yeah, this...is complete pure conjecture. If I wanted to test my back end, why would I add more points of failure like brand new code to muck things up? Especially when I can make sure my back end works in a known environment, and then have another test down the line with working back end, new front end and test everything!
See what I did there?
I can 'claim' its not conjecture, really, honest! All I want. You don't have all the available facts.
this thread is why i wish companies would go back to inforceing the NDA till launch day and sticking to actual beta test instead of the modern advertisment beta style.
F2P may be the way of the future, but ya know they dont make them like they used to Proper Grammer & spelling are extra, corrections will be LOL at.
all i want to say is most of the problems i can pretty certainly attribute to the stress testing itself. me and my friend both played on the covenent and i started earlier than him. fought through the abomination of hate without a problem. before leaving the island i waited for him to create his characters hours later when more people where online and it stopped spawning like it should have. then the problems with the mage guild quest line i had later one with hazlock not opening the door where as others said they had no problem with it. (also eventually i fell off the map)
little side note for the one that said you cant report bugs that last beta test your a moron if you even looked at the chat chatter and ignored the trolls most ppl told you possible ways to fix bugs and to report them you hit /bug . trust me i reported a few bugs myself this weekend.
also for the people having to "/reloadui 50 times daily" im sorry but i did it maybe 4 times all beta.
a few more issues (mostly quest related) that probably had to do with server stress testing npc's taking a bit to load, quest mechanics stopping to function, the harpy mother thing i never saw wouldnt spawn which i know ppl in my guild who earlier defeated it spawning normally, or the doshia fight from the fighters guild which for me i beat but my friend who couldnt eventually for him her healing orbs just stopped showing and instantly healed her.
like most people say this was a test to stress the server and see how it reacts to a massive amount of people at once. the longer the beta went on and the more people who joined in the more bugs were stressed and broken to a point. hell later in the test today (sunday) i was walking through stairs and falling off bridges from the middle. it was a stress. yes people saying that the pts are more stable shouldnt be since most of them dont know but its the same for the instant neigh sayers you know just as little as them.
edit post additive: overall my experience was bugged and not perfect but otherwise til near late my experience wasnt gamebreaking halted and i know that was because it was a stress test im not trying to say its perfect or that a holy patch is going to fix it all in one go but just have faith and hope theres another beta with the almost completed version. when we are about two weeks til launch and they release a non stress test beta (if they do) and it is full of bugs then begin the neigh saying of how it wont be ready for launch til then hike up your panties and snap to reality especially the op who is telling everyone else to snap to reality yet he seems to have his head so far up his arse that he cant see through all the shit on his glasses
2nd edit: also about this being bad for gaining the 'average customer who doesnt research before they buy' personally yes probably but thats not zenimax's fault and imho i really could care less. it may sound mean but if you dont have the 'average customer' it makes for a much better comuntity. less trolls in the zone chat and more people who want the game to succeed. that is just my opinion tho on that thought
Originally posted by LisaFlexy22 Guess you didn't read the leaked patch notes for the PTS server
Are you saying that the average consumer, who barely researches a lot of their purchases in-depth before they buy, should have to try and find LEAKED patch notes to base their decision off of? Are you kidding?
Perhaps those of you diehard fans who refuse to acknowledge the shortcomings of this game think it is a requirement, but overall it is going to hurt Zenimax in the end. They pushed out a very publicized beta, and had nothing but negative comments from people giving it a try for the first time. Hell, if you watched the Twitch streams, the chat alone was an indication of the overall disdain for this game.
Some people will like it, most will not. Get used to it. This is not going to be the be-all end-all MMO some of you are touting it to be.
I love the game but I do agree with you on many things. People that come on here are not your average customer, they don't research games in and out. They don't look for patch notes, etc before they buy a game or play the beta. People on here are much more hardcore gamers. I mention this website in guilds in the past and most people has never even heard of this website. Many people just randomly sign up for betas and don't follow a game at all. I understand its a beta but like you said this was a huge public beta and when people cant finish quest literally half the time which is not exaggerating its not a good thing when the game launches in a few weeks. And this is coming from somebody who loves the game but I do have concerns and I do not believe it will be ready for launch. Yes I understand this is not the current version but this version is horrific as in bugs. So if the current version isn't ready a month before release for major testing then there is a problem I would think.
Problem is they hyped for 2 weeks a bunch of changes to ESO that the fence sitters were excited about, then they put NONE of them in the game.

Lol... get real, dude. All those people complaining, and all those people who constantly say the game sucks, and all those people who want this game to fail so that it can go F2P.... all of them....
They'll be the first in line in the queue. I guarantee you.
As for you... in what realm of society do you live in where participating in a "test" means that you have control over anything? The only problem here is you have poor expectations for what a "test" actually is. You aren't there to enjoy the experience and decide if you want to buy the product. If this were a "free trial" I would speak differently. But it wasn't. It was a test.
Frankly, I couldn't be more thrilled than how Zenimax has handled this entire fiasco for the past 2 months. All this shit talk going everywhere... and they haven't budged a single bit on how they are going to do business. You know what that tells me? That tells me that they are the boss; they got this shit on lock-down; and they aren't going to let any punk-bitch run their shit. That's exactly what that tells me.
You sound to me like the sort of guy who would keep shit on lock-down too. So what's the problem?
So this weekend was indeed a stress test and also a very old client. However from the past 3 betas this one was by far the worst, although I had one crash liek the rest of the folks, the problem was not performance for me.
I wanted to just go to pvp so I marched forward to make anew toon only to find I had spent all of my saturday relogging to get into an instance where the quests worked. I had 8 bugged quest which did not allow me to progress, sadly I have now given up until release to see this magical RvR.
But as of now it took me mostly 1 hour 2 hours to log into a proper instance so I could finish the quests.
I also tried to grind it out and that was so dull I wanted to stab my left testi with a rusted screw driver.
so hopefully it will be finished, I know I am hearing PTS has the newer build and thats great and all, but I had some friends that tried the game out for the first time.
All I am saying is do not fcking give out beta keys to give out to my friends if the shit is a old client where none of the quests are working.

YES DO NOT GIVE HIM KEYS TO ADD PEOPLE TO THE STRESS TEST ON A SEMI WORKING VERSION THAT WORKED ENOUGH FOR ME TO LVL TO 9!!!! WITH VERY LITTLE PROBLEMS TIL LATER ON!!!
ok but seriously your the ones that handed out the keys to your friends. you should have known it was a stress test and its your fault they joined uninformed. seriously im not trying to defend this so hard but your point is so weak i cant agree with you even a bit. guess what i gave a key to my friend and we both did fine as you see in my other post him starting a bit later in the stress test did give him some trouble and i told him it was a stress test so he was prepared for problems but for how many problems i see people complaining about i can say we had very few problems that worked after like 10 mins and like i said i would chalk it up to there being so many people on due to the stress test. if you wanted your buddies to play a more refined game then giving them keys to a stress test isnt the best idea. dont blame others for your own stupidity that is the main problem with the op imo. the game has its problems right now but nothing as dire as most of you are claiming unless i somehow played a better version (which i didnt) then you probably just played when most of the stress testers were on.
I am a huge supporter of ESO, but honestly zenimax needs to grow a brain.
Pushing another beta weekend without a client side patch to show some progress this close to release was a moronic move.
All this weekend is doing is showing how badly the game is still broken, and how little progress they are making.
{mod edit}
A lot of the people I had convinced to give it a chance are now questioning zenimax's experience and ability to actually release a stable solid client in less than 30 days.
Really stupid marketing guys.
Smart = 500k beta keys two weeks ago, buddy keys to everyone who took one of those 500k of keys for this weekend, and allowing all of the potentially 1 million of those people to either see more of the game or to see it for the first time.
Stupid = Thinking that because you are part of the 100k (if there were even that many) beta testers that were let in months ago that you can somehow call a move to allow a potential of 1 million players to get hooked only a month before release, during the pre-order period, stupid just because they didn't fix what you, personally, thought needed to be fixed first.
Heck, I'm not sure they didn't put it up for completely marketing reasons cause I, for one, was certainly out there shopping other games just to kill off the ESO buzz that I got from the weekend two weeks ago.
Think about it. Neverwinter was BUSTLING when I went in there. And who knows what some people might have though about Wildstar or some of the other games that they may have been trying out for the first time? Plus, ESO becomes so much more once you see both sides of the game, (PVE and PVP) and that first weekend wasn't nearly enough to let a lot of people see that.
I even crafted one of those special quality items this weekend, which I was very proud of, and none of these so-called game stopping bugs that they should have fixed stopped me from doing any of that. Not to say that I don't get it if you have been in the beta for a while or whatever. But still. To come out and call it a stupid move based on that?
Strange you guys are having such a great experience when the chat is alive with all the bugs, glitches, and crashes others are having.

Hello Psiic, I don't think that there is a special fanboy client, we all play the same lame server. But for me this stress test was successfull, because last time I w8 between 15-20 minutes to enter, also server crashed and they make immergency maintainence for 30 minutes, after that intervention server became stable. Still you are right, the time till release is unsufficient to polish the game, removing the bugs and fix quest progression. I hope they delay the game with 2 - 3 months.
I think it would be naive to say anything Zenimax has done is stupid. The whole PR campaign seems very calculated. Though I can't say I understand it all. There will be one more beta before early access. Watch them roll out the updated build and see how people react.
as someone who is fence sitting.. i can honestly say this beta run (only run i have done on ESO) really didnt impress me much
the 2 CTDs i hit one while logging out (which was kinda ironic..) the broken quests that wouldnt even start for whatever reason, really left me disinterested.
while i accept the low texture quality even on max settings as it is an mmo, i really feel they could have done soo much more to improve it so its far less noticeable then it is. if this is the final build before gold... its a rather poor showing IMO.. considering what they are charging for it up front and monthly.
animations arent impressive either it reminds me of gw/2 animations which kinda disappoints me as i was expecting them to do a vastly better job.
so ya its a pretty stupid move to beta this build if it is an old out of date build, as it really doesnt make me want to preorder it in this state. most people will forgive alot of bugs like quests and such.. but this build really doesnt make the game seem that impressive feels really rehashed.

They are just hammering the server to try and make sure the new code will hold up for a largely anticipated launch in a month. They will probably have more beta weekends all this month testing out the new patch stuff if it gets good reviews in the private servers.
pretty much this.
4 weeks to early access launch.
I am usually inclined to miss launch day chaos and as it stands Zenimax have convinced me that they need more time.
I may be wrong but so what .... no big deal; and if I am right then I will have saved myself a lot of frustration.
50 times a day.
what is this "smoother" you are typing about
i've not had the issues with broken main story quest (2 places on noob island) in previous beta - playing with a friend that is not only on friends list, we were grouped and guilded (couldn't be more tied together than that) and we still got defazed or whatever it is since one or the other of use would disappear - heck, even my sorcerers minion disapeared and reappeared with regularity - and you would think previous client or not the constant need for /reloadui would have been taken care of by now (and dare i mention the CTDs?)
so once again we have a MMO that is suppose to release in a month and there will be one of these "miracle" patches?

I would imagine the devs know what they are doing better than u and your friends. You might want to try some patience.

F2P may be the way of the future, but ya know they dont make them like they used to
Proper Grammer & spelling are extra, corrections will be LOL at.
all i want to say is most of the problems i can pretty certainly attribute to the stress testing itself. me and my friend both played on the covenent and i started earlier than him. fought through the abomination of hate without a problem. before leaving the island i waited for him to create his characters hours later when more people where online and it stopped spawning like it should have. then the problems with the mage guild quest line i had later one with hazlock not opening the door where as others said they had no problem with it.
Lol... get real, dude.
WITH VERY LITTLE PROBLEMS TIL LATER ON!!!
ok but seriously your the ones that handed out the keys to your friends. you should have known it was a stress test and its your fault they joined uninformed. seriously im not trying to defend this so hard but your point is so weak i cant agree with you even a bit. guess what i gave a key to my friend and we both did fine as you see in my other post him starting a bit later in the stress test did give him some trouble and i told him it was a stress test so he was prepared for problems but for how many problems i see people complaining about i can say we had very few problems that worked after like 10 mins and like i said i would chalk it up to there being so many people on due to the stress test. if you wanted your buddies to play a more refined game then giving them keys to a stress test isnt the best idea. dont blame others for your own stupidity that is the main problem with the op imo. the game has its problems right now but nothing as dire as most of you are claiming unless i somehow played a better version (which i didnt) then you probably just played when most of the stress testers were on.
edit notes: just fixed a typo
I disagree.
Best regards from Eastern Europe
as someone who is fence sitting.. i can honestly say this beta run (only run i have done on ESO) really didnt impress me much
